What: The Cultural Fair
When: June 5th- 12th - admittedly dates are sort of nebulous - set up could have begun as early as the 5th, but given the event recently, more days could have been taken to do it and for people to involve themselves, so it probably "officially" starts a little later (by the 8th at the very least, though work can go on throughout it) - feel free to use your judgement/have fun!

Notes: Booths can be labeled as separate comments! Just put [booth name] or something in the subject line so people can find top level comments easier.

Work probably started for it on the 5th-7/8th for labor purposes, though feel free to use dates to your advantage here! (Even if characters slapdash something at the last minute, it would be fun to see! It would even be encouraged after the crazy from the last event - kind of a way to get back in touch with themselves.)

CHARACTERS ARE WELCOME TO TAG THE LOG FOR INTERACTING WITH OTHERS, NOT JUST BOOTHS, SO FEEL FREE TO TAG IN! Also a character who might not know what's going on is welcome to walk by and question it! And so forth. (Helios and Ikki made posts in regard to it and there have been art club posters around, so anyone could have noticed those as well!)

I'll leave descriptions up to you all as there isn't much that is too uniform about the displays, as everyone is encouraged to be creative about their presentations and how hard the characters worked isn't something I could define for each of you. Just keep in mind that this takes place in the plaza, there shouldn't be an issue with blocking traffic (there may be ropes up to try and keep pathways clear, however!), though it may branch around various points of the square depending on where someone wants a booth located / the number of actual participants. The square will also have a lot of brightly colored signs and decorations indicating what is going on!

Eugh. [Jack gives the noise of disgust with fantastic affability, settling in at the beard-making station as soon as he secures himself some mead. He reasons, probably correctly, that boozy arts and crafts are the best arts and crafts.] Eugene would take me into the backyard, hose me down, and make me sleep there. And I can't say I'd blame him.

He'd be right to do so. And it still would do nothing for the smell.

[Loki grins.]

He might not recognize you with the beard. Perhaps you could escape unscathed and he'd just think you were a transient.

Thanks, but I think I've had enough of that already for one lifetime. [He delivers the line lightly, testing a fabric over-the-ear framework for the beard. Proper fit is everything, of course.] I actually meant to ask you about something you might like even better then reducing me to a life of destitute rambling with your party snacks there.

Well, I shall note that in Asgard, there is nothing but an immortal stretch of poking things with sticks. It's... cultural, you know.

[He can't imagine anyone thinks he's taking this in the least bit seriously.]

Oh? Do tell. [Chinhands.]

Wellllll . . . Eugene's birthday is coming up on the twenty-first. Max's on the twenty-third. And I'm told that midsummer is about that time, complete with all sorts of potential trouble involving bonfires. [He glances up with just a lift of his eyes, a little smirk playing about his lips.] You do still like bonfires, I hope.

Oh, I see. [Loki grins.] I'm still quite taken with large fires. And things that go boom as well.

[This sounds fun, so we just won't mention the fact that he thinks Max is worthless and Max kind of hates his face.]

Could I possibly enlist you for help with planning? [He has a drink of mead, giving a small noise of satisfaction with the taste before continuing.] I mean honestly, I'm sort of taking the first excuse possible to arrange a big, wild outdoor revel. I think I can probably lean upon Helios to help with the sound and-or lights, but . . . well, he's Helios.

I think I could see my way to help with that. I do rather like a good festive occasion. But my price is that there must be dancing.

[Pause.]

Dancing with heavy enough drums that I can follow along without hearing.

Oh, heck yeah. That's the sort of party I'm used to. High-volume dance music. Bass you can feel in your teeth. [There's a tinge of nostalgia in his grin as he sighs agreement, mind already whirling with dreams of how big and wild a party they might be able to manage.] And lights everywhere, flashes and beams in all colours.

[Loki grins.] Oh, I like the sound of that. I should very much enjoy such dancing, I think.

Yes, I would be quite happy to help.

Excellent. [Jack leans back and holds up his beard for inspection, which is still glue-damp between the backing and the fur but otherwise suitably enormous, shaggy, and a passably realistic shade of mousy brown.] I'll write you a note closer to the actual date. We can meet up for some sort of beverage and discuss details. Is there a traditional venue I should be looking for?

Oh, that is fetching. It looks like a badger was so taken with you that it's trying to mate with your face. Perfect! [Grin]

For midsummer? Nay, just somewhere we can have bonfires and drunken carousing, really. Out of doors seems best, and just borrow tables from the recreation center perhaps.

Duly noted. [Jack puts down his beard with a smile, picking up his mead again and taking another drink. He could get used to this stuff.] And I'll have to keep the amorous badger safe from Eugene. I'd hate for him to get jealous.

[Loki is highly entertained by wondering just how much mead Jack will down before the alcohol ends up hitting him like a honey-dipped hammer.]

Worse, he might decide he likes you better with the badger. We'd never see your darling chin again.

Pfft. Or he'll take it as some sort of Canadian dominance display and start growing his own rival beard.

I'd be afraid he'd end up looking like that bizarre Santa Claus fellow.

[The last quip is delivered sotto vocce, as he reaches for the mead to refill his cup. Temperance, thy name is most definitively not Jack Holden.]

So, is this your plan? Set a mob of drunken, bearded, foul-smelling people upon the fair with bludgeoning weapons?

That is another thing I do not understand of Santa Claus as he wad explained. If he is so fat and old, why would he wish to climb down chimneys?

[He grins.]

When you put it like that, it dies sound rather fun, doesn't it? What is Asgard without a party to go a-Viking? I think I saw a take with some pies just begging to be pillaged.

I feel like somewhere in my most ancestral English soul, I should be repulsed by the idea. [Jack looks around the fair with a little smile, just beginning to feel the warm lightness of a nice buzz creep up on him.] But I do like pie . . .

If you can still hear your ancestors, you obviously haven't had enough to drink yet.

And I believe one if the pies involves blueberries.

[Jack looks at the mead. At the fair. Back at the mead. At the sticks.

He grins and lifts a shorter one, hefting it consideringly.]

Have I mentioned that I've been training in how to wield a bludgeoning weapon for over half a year now?

[This cultural fair thing just got interesting. Loki straightens on his throne.]

Is that so? I think I'd like to see that.

Ha! Let me get it.

[Abandoning the padded stick, he jogs to his table and retrieves his cricket bat in short order, returning at a quick walk and, a little showily, putting the bat through forward and backward twirls as he does.]

I've been using W.G. here since things went pear-shaped back home, but there wasn't much in the way of actual training until I got to Luceti. [He glances around the front of the booth, then grins at Loki curiously.] Do you want me to just hit at the air?
