Summary: Ginia throws a movie marathon at the rec center for entertainment and post-draft distractions.
Rating: PG-13 for some of the movies shown, but let's keep it around here or lower.


On Thursday, flyers were posted around the village with another notification of the movie marathon and the list of movies that will be shown:

The Sword in the Stone
Grease
Robin Hood: Men in Tights
Moulin Rouge
The Princess Bride
Jurassic Park
Clue
Rocky Horror Picture Show

Come Saturday, the list can also be found outside the rec center. Inside the center, there are tables set up filled with food: fruit and veggie platters, cookies and cake from the bakery, sandwiches, packages of popcorn (with a microwave nearby), and an assortment of packaged candy. As food begins running low, runners will be sent to the stores to bring back more. There are also drinks - water, sodas, juices, tea, and coffee. Alcohol is bring your own, but Ginia also has a small table set aside with some gin, whisky, vodka, and mixers.

Besides what seating is already in the rec center, additional chairs, large cushions, and even two beanbag chairs have been brought in. For those who want to hang out but not watch movies, there's still pool, board games, and a few deck of cards.

Enjoy, relax, and try not to think about the draft.

[Well, given that Saori realizes she needs to socialize at least a little bit and is in theory loaning Ginia some of the movies, it's probably good for her to turn up. She even sits through most of the movies, focused more or less on that than the other activities. Cards are dull, pool is dull, but she might be convinced to play a board game if anyone wants to. Traditional games or more modern children's ones are a preference. After all, she's got a Hungry Hungry Hippos rivalry going with Kushina...

Throughout the day, Saori is prone to vanish for a few moments, drifting outside to get fresh air and stretch, as summer is making her generally restless temperament even more so than usual.

Food wise, she eats sparingly, preferring fruit and other sweets to any of the salty things. She has brought her own bottle of something strong smelling that she keeps on ice till the evening. Once that comes out, she's more or less drinking it like water, but seems more than fine, and happy to share as well. If someone thinks they can handle what she's got, anyway.]

[Ever the good host, and thankful for Saori loaning some movies, Ginia greets the goddess when she arrives, makes small talk throughout the day, sets aside a container and some ice for Saori's bottle. It's a day to relax, for people to enjoy themselves or distract themselves however they want so Ginia doesn't linger too long.

But toward the evening, when Ginia has already finished one drink and is on her second (gimlet, heavy on gin), does she take a seat by Saori.]

/What's in the bottle?/

[Yes, Ginia had been a fine host today, and it'd been a good day all things considered. So Saori looks to the woman, a thick mug in hand and smiles. It's a little tired, but friendly. Socializing after all of that is still a chore, after all.]

Kojoro, from my home town. A...shochu. I'm...not sure exactly what the word might be. Rice and potato wine, maybe?

I was lucky to find it, I think.

[Socializing is a chore, but one Ginia pushes on with even if there's too much going on in her mind. Red's message sticks with her as much as she wishes she could ignore it. Yes, one day she is going to have to talk about things. Talk or drown in it.]

Oh? Well find a cup. This bottle is enchanted, it won't run dry.

[A simple fix for limited liquid.]

[A simple fix, but quite a useful one. It certainly explains the source of water during the draft. Ginia takes a small sip from her drink before she sets it down and gets up to find a cup. She returns a few minutes later with a plastic cup and holds it out with a smile as she reclaims her spot.]

[Saori is, admittedly, a little reticent to pour it into a plastic cup. But...all the same she will, filling it about half full.]

Cheers, then.

[And she'll take a drink from her own cup.]

[Understandable, but clean glasses are a bit short at the moment. You make do with what you have. Even Ginia's cocktail is in a plastic cup instead of a proper glass.

Ginia raises the cup - cheers - before taking a slow sip.

Strong, very strong, but also good. Ginia swallows and nods her approval.]

[Saori throws back the rest of her cup and nods back.]

Thoughts? Good? Bad? Indifferent? Is it too strong?

[Ginia takes another sip before she sets the cup down to free her hands.]

/It's pretty strong. I can drink a lot, but I'm not sure I'd want to slug back shots of that. Very good though./

Well, take it slow then. [There's just a hint of pride in her voice, that someone's complimenting a brew from her hometown.]

So...um...what is this movie about? Jurassic Park?

[The pride is well-deserved; it's a good drink. And as an occasional bartender and someone who appreciates good drinks, it's definitely top shelf.]

/Some scientists find a way to bring dinosaurs back to life and create a theme-slash-education park. From there, it goes downhill. Based off a series of novels./

...Dinosaurus? You mean...those reptiles?

[This gets her attention big time. They're a reminder of a friend, and...well...she didn't quite ever get an education on them in school.]

That sounds exciting. Is it a horror movie, then?

/Those reptiles that died out long ago, yes. And there are a few suspenseful and scary bits, but it's largely an action movie. The thing I love most about the movie is the fact they built life-sized models for some of the dinosaurs. Adds to the realism./

[After the draft, Ginia was slightly hesitant to include Jurassic Park on the movie list. Maybe some parts would be too scary for the audience. But it wasn't war violence, and there weren't dinosaurs out on the draft, so she felt it was safe enough.]

I knew they were all gone, I just don't really know much about them. Is any of the movie accurate?

/Not very. They took a lot of creative liberties like most movies do. Still doesn't make it any less entertaining./

Ah. Well, that's a little sad. But...it sounds fun. Is it...new? Or older?

[When Evan first spots Saori, it's from the corner of his eye as he turns to check on the food levels. It is understandable then that he freezes, his mind jumping to crazy conclusions. The glace is too brief, to give him a solid ID, yet a single name beats in time with his heartbeat, which has jumped to a ridiculous pace as his whole body tenses for flight or fight.

Cynthia, cynthia cynthia cynthiacynthiacynthiacynthia!

It takes all his self control to turn carefully, not whip his head around and stare blatantly. Almost immediately he realizes his mistake. A shaky exhale. No, it wasn't her. Most people might have made a similar mistake, if they knew Cynthia and saw Saori from a distance, but Evan's long time familiarity with his oldest friend means he sees the difference very clearly, now that he is looking properly.

It still hurts though.

However he takes a deep breath, shoving everything down. He's not dealing with it today. No, today is fun and movies dammit.

So he pulls up a smile, perhaps a bit smaller than his usual friendly smile, but genuine, and approaches Saori.]

Hey, welcome. Having fun?

((ooc; So, sidenote. Evan is a member of no religion in particular but has participated in the worship of various Chinese and Japanese gods. I don't know if you'll want to do anything with that knowledge but feel free to ignore or expound at your will. Just wanted tp add it in because it feels like it could be important??? Maybe? Also he's pretty aware of Eastern Mythology, but not of Saori in particular. Mainly Taiwanese/Chinese myths, with a sprinkle of Japanese.))

[Well Saori doesn't notice the look, or feel anything odd, but she's somewhat absorbed in the movie. All things considered, she's here to be polite, not to be sociable...but he's a stranger and he seems friendly enough. And she remembers the broadcasts, as well as thinking he had a good singing voice. And there was something about him that hinted at a spiritual side, possibly someone who'd prayed in the past.

So...she'll offer up a welcoming little smile.]

[ooc: Well, Saori isn't part of traditional lore, but Evan might have a passing familiarity with her forebearer, Tesshin (A regional aspect of the greater deity Susanoo in some tales), the god who's role she assumed. I'll run with what's up there, and we'll see how things go! <3)]

[If anyone told him he had a spiritual side, he'd probably be surprised. Mainly because since he didn't subscribe to any form of organized religion which somehow equated to no spirituality, at least among the close-minded.

The smile is completely different and just highlights how different this woman is from Cynthia. He feels himself relax a bit more, the smile widening a fraction.]

Good to hear. I certainly played my part. It was mainly Ginia but I was allowed to help with the heavy lifting, snack procurement and the announcement.

[Her own widens pleasantly, and she offers her hand for a shake. It's not that unusual to do that with Westerners anymore, so...it's not even awkward for her.]

And I am Saori. It's a pleasure, Evan.

[She pauses, shrugs, and adds.]

And you sing quite well.

[Evan takes it without any awkwardness. While he's mainly bounced around the Eastern part of the world, most of his companions have been Westerners, so he knows quite a few greeting habits.]

The pleasure is mine Saori. Japanese?

[Evan gets a pleased flush.]

[She inclines her head slightly.]

Yes, that's right. I'm originally from Dazaifu. Fukuoka prefecture.

[Saori is happy to talk about home, at least, and if he's able to pick out her origin, maybe he'd pick up on her heavy Hakata-ben accent, the slight drawl of Kyushu natives.]

Ah, Kyushu area. I though your accent was familiar. I've been to Dazaifu once, went to visit the Kōmyōzen-ji. It was very calming.

[He smiles.]

Most of the time I've stuck to Taiwan but when I traveled I liked to go to Japan and China. Lots of very soothing places, and gorgeous temples.

[Her eyes flash with surprise, and her smile widens even farther, lighting up her entire face.]

Kōmyōzen-ji is less then a stone's throw away from my shrine! It's a beautiful place, for a Buddhist temple, and I've...well, I've fallen asleep in the garden more than once. So you're right about it being calming.

[She's amused by this, as she wasn't entirely sure if the complex even existed in other worlds.]
