The adventure to the past is over; the villagers have all been sent home to their own time. But things are different. The changes of the past have echoed into the future. And the world has responded in the strangest way. Why are so many people here all of a sudden? And why are their memories such a mess?

[It sure is a nice new day in this rewritten Luceti. Doesn't everything just seem a bit friendlier and brighter now that everything's changed for the better?

And then there's this asshole.

Varrick awoke with pretty much the same confusion as the last time he arrived in Luceti. The main difference being that this time, he doesn't need to learn about this place from scratch. The memories are there, even if they are a bit scrambled. Half the population seems confused, which is comforting in its own way. He's not the only one totally lost.

Once he's stopped by the clothing store to change (Great, the only outfit he actually recognizes as his own is that lousy army uniform), he sets out to find anyone from his own world. He has no idea how long he's been gone. Is Bolin still here? Is Zhu Li here? ...Oh, who is he kidding? She wasn't here last time and even if she were here now, she wouldn't want to see him. Better to focus on people who can still stand him.

Soon enough, Varrick's dulcet tones are echoing through the streets.]

Heeeeey! Boliiin! Asamiii! Avatar Koooorraaa! Yoohooo! Mmmako?! Chief Beifong?! ...Heck, I'd settle for ol' Raiko. ...Anyone?! The great Varrick has returned!

[It's not a monk who finds him first, but a bowl-cutted youth who pops up in the middle of the street.]

Ah... Varrick-san! You have returned to us?! [And his eyes sparkle as he notices the Kuvira uniform.] And you have adopted such a youthful fashion! Yes... today is truly a day to feel joy!

[Okay, eventually Aang shows up. Getting taller, scruff on his chin, etc. And he raises an eyebrow. He thinks he remembers this guy.]

Hey! I know you! You're... the guy with the mustache!

[And here's Varrick, pointing at Aang in turn.]

Yeah! And I know you! You're the Avatar who was Avatar before Avatar Korra! Avatar Ong! [He does not draw his pronunciation into question one bit. Clearly, other people are pronouncing it wrong.]

It's... Aang, actually! [He rubs at his chin sheepishly.] But other than that, you got it right!

Oh, Mr. Varrick.

[ This time, Ikki actually recognizes the guy. ...Hadn't he gotten his tongue stuck to a pole, the last time...? But now she remembers he's that weird guy who did movers. Who Bolin worked for.

And also there was prison and stuff, but he got out? Wow. ]

Um, I haven't seen any of those people so far.

[When he spots Ikki, Varrick stops in his tracks. He raises a hand to his chin, looking thoughtful. For a second, it looks as if he's hit by a realization and is about to say something, except he closes his mouth again. Ikki might almost be able to hear the gears in his head turning.

And then it finally hits him.]

Oohhhh... You're one of Tenzin's kids, aren't you?

[breezings]

[ DID THE AIRBENDER FLYSUIT GIVE HER AWAY. ]

Ikki. We've met once or twice.

[ Now that gets Korra's attention for a couple reasons, primary amongst them being hey, that's her name. Although she's not used to hearing people call her "Avatar Korra" here due to most of them not really understanding what an Avatar is, the fact that he's also calling for her friends causes her to excitedly rush towards the sound of the voice... only to stop, surprised, in front of Varrick as he announces his return. ]

Varrick? What do you- when did you get here?

[Aw come on. Is Varrick not a great reason for excitement too? He's such a good buddy! Never any questionable behavior from this guy. Nope. He looks happy to see Korra, in any case! Happy enough to storm towards her when he sees her, laughing in that loud, victorious, almost unhinged way of his. After everything he's been through back home, the Avatar is a sight for sore eyes.]

Hahaaah! Boy, am I glad to see you! Did you know Kuvira's crazy? Because if you didn't, I'm telling you now! Kuvira's crazy! [There. He fulfilled his civic duty. He did the right thing and it feels good. Bolin would be so proud.]

[Hey Varrick, have None Of The Above respond!]

Ah, the great Varrick! [ ... ] ... I've never heard of you. Are you sure you're not "the ordinary Varrick"?

[Wh- Ordinary?! Nobody's ever dared to call him ordinary before. He makes a face that implies it's the greatest insult that could ever be slung at him.]

No! No, I'm not ordinary! People have called me a "mad genius", a "philanthropist", a "visionary", "eccentric", "greedy", "self-centered"... But never ordinary!

Ah. I see. [ ... ] You must be your world's local weirdo. Understood.

[He sips his tea calmly as he watches the man shouting, apparently oblivious to those around him]

I wasn't aware you were great.

[No offense meant in his tone, just sort of stating it]

[Who dares disturb Varrick's shouting?! ... Oh, hang on! He knows this guy. It's General Iroh. The original!]

With all my accomplishments, how could I not be great? [He's dead serious.]

Greatness is much overrated I find, often there are many terrible things that would be considered great by many.

[Who is talking so loud around here? Beast turns in the direction of the noise, a bag of chocolate croissants in paw, and spots Varrick in his search. What exactly does he say to make him stop? Maybe he should ask the obvious.]

Are you, looking for someone?

[AAHHH, A BEAST! A horrible, monstrous BEAST! It's like a... a goatbear, or a moosehog. Or... Actually, Varrick's sure he's seen that thing before, but he can't really place it. It's terrifying either way.]

I-I uh... Huuuhhhhhh...! Y-yes? I-I mean... Yes. [Wow his voice sure reached a funny, high-pitched tone, there.]

[At first, it's the voice Kratos remembers (though he wishes he didn't.) As he looks in the direction of the persisting tones, he recognizes the face (though he really wishes he didn't.)

It's that irritating man from last winter. The one who...

Hn. Kratos is just going to pretend he didn't see Varrick, and it's not at all because he's embarrassed over what happened. Of course not. How absurd.]

[Meanwhile, Varrick doesn't really recognize Kratos at all. The mistletoe incident didn't leave that much of an impression on him (just a means to get to an end, really) but even if it did, he's been home for over three years. The memories of his last visit to Luceti are hazy at best.

Which doesn't stop him from approaching Kratos. Nope.]

Hey pal! I'm lookin' for somebody, help me out here.

[Sokka happens to be in the vicinity as Varrick is calling out all sorts of names. Some of them he doesn't recognize, though some of them he does recognize. And quite well too. His ears pique, and he looks up as if his own name had been called. And then he announces who exactly it was. He'd always heard about Varrick, though it's not like he knew anything at all about him.]

The great Varrick, huh?

[The second Varrick spots Sokka, he stops in his tracks. That kid... He looks familiar somehow. Like maybe he's seen his face somewhere before. In a painting or maybe a statue. HMMMM...

...He's got nothing. If it were important, surely he'd remember.]
