The adventure to the past is over; the villagers have all been sent home to their own time. But things are different. The changes of the past have echoed into the future. And the world has responded in the strangest way. Why are so many people here all of a sudden? And why are their memories such a mess?

[Ion appreciates that, and take his hand and stands. He's still a little out of breath though when he speaks.]

Yes, it is... though I think it might be a bit too cold for me. I haven't really been able to focus...

Likewise... [- Don says slowly, replying to both things.] Do you want to walk for a while?

I... think I would, yes... [DEEP BREATH you'd think this kid hadn't exercised a day in his life! Either that or he just ran halfway around the village in one go. The truth is a mix of both.]

[Aaand they're walking!]

Oh, and thank you for helping me up. To be honest, it's not the first time I've tripped while out on a run like this.

[Don is kind of used to that.]

[A conspiratorial smile.] It wouldn't be my first time either. You do this often, then?

Yes, I do. Though I've only picked it up in the past few months or so. Of course, I usually only run at night.

[Which could totally explain why he's never run into him before if Don is the sort to do so in the morning! Of course, even with that line of thought, Ion isn't too sure he's seen this guy around recently.]

[One of Don's favorite things about Luceti is that he doesn't have to run at night.]

Can I ask what's on your mind?

...does the village seem strange to you today?

[He's trying to figure out which future this guy came from. Ion's already decided there wasn't much point in bringing up the future that never happened to those lucky enough to not remember it... but really, he's not sure whether he'd call it "luck" or not.]

I can't say I've really seen it yet. [The forest looks the same as ever.] Something... something feels strange, though.

You haven't seen it? [Hmmm...] Are you perhaps one of the new arrivals who showed up today?

No... [He points in the general direction of his house.] I live on the outskirts, and I don't usually get downtown this early in the morning.

Is there another New Feather cycle? [It doesn't seem like the right day for it. Not that Don has ever had a very good sense of time.]

...I see.

[So he's not a new feather. And he didn't jump on the whole time travel thing as being something worth mentioning. So he must be one of the ones like Luke, here because of the changes they made to the past.]

And yes, there is. Although it seems as though a lot of new feathers have all shown up at once this time. And I feel like it's been a long time since something like that happened.

Maybe the cycles have changed again. [It happens sometimes.] Is someone helping them get settled?

Actually, that's part of why it's so strange. Although I've seen plenty of new arrivals show up, most of them seem to be people who've been here before. I always thought returning with your memories of Luceti was rather rare, but this time, it seems to be that way in the majority of cases.

[Naturally there's a lot of other reasons for the village to seem strange right now, but hey, this one was still relevant even to the people who didn't go back to the past with them, right?]

[Hm. Don had some anecdotal knowledge about the comings and goings of those closest to him, but he'd never attempted to study the rates newcomers vs. returning residents, or whether it was more common for those returning to have their memories intact or not.]

-- Is there going to be a problem when they all try to move back into their former homes?

I'm not sure, though it's entirely possible if they were in Luceti a long time ago. So far, at least three of my former housemates have returned, so our home is going to be a bit more crowded than usual for a while.

[Though he's not exactly disappointed by that.]

You haven't seen any giant turtles or rats, have you?

I'm sorry. I can't say that I have. [And it's not exactly hard to guess why he'd be asking.] But I haven't been to most parts of the village yet, so I might have just not seen them.

Maybe we can look around. [- Don says, as they near the village proper. Not that a family of ninjas is ever easy to find.] Is there somewhere you wanted to go?

I wasn't headed anywhere in particular, no. But I wouldn't mind helping you look?

Oh, it's not necessary.

[It would probably be better if there weren't extra people around, but Don doesn't want to be rude.]
