Your characters are shuffling off to their rooms. Each room has their name beside it and only they can open the door. People can only enter their room if they're allowed in (or they leave the door open). Characters will find any requested items in their room already. If they have a requested vehicle, there will be another door in their room that will take them to the hangar to inspect their equipment.

[Not much in it. Bed, bathroom, lamp, desk. All he's requested for himself are weapons, and the ones he didn't bring with him today are lying neatly arranged on the desk.

He shrugs out of his flak jacket, dropping it into a corner of the room.]

When I said I was tired, I wasn't talking about the typical type of exhaustion, by the way. Again, it really isn't that big of a deal.

[Ha! She knew something was wrong.]

What do you mean, 'not typical?'

I'm just low on chakra. Battles in my world usually go a lot quicker than the ones we had today. [Maybe it'll be different, now that his own world is going to war. For now it's true, though.]

My stamina kinda sucks to begin with [for a ninja, anyways], but my jutsus take up chakra on top of that. Today it just took more than I'm used to handling at one time.

[...an idea begins to form.]

You said chakra was like chi, right? Let me take a look.

[Another sigh, like this is the most troublesome thing ever. But he offers his hand again.]

[...she doesn't take it.]

You can sit down, Shikamaru. It'll be a minute.

[Froooown. But he takes a seat on the edge of the bed.

...he will just bathe before they go out again, then. S'not like he's worried about the Malnosso housekeeper turning up her nose at smelly bedding.]

[Honestly, you'd think that she was the dentist with the way you're scowling at her - this isn't going to hurt at all. It will feel relaxing, soothing, and like moonlight on a clear winter's evening.

She places her watercoated hand on his and his chi pathways light up to her senses as the water in her hand begins to glow. It's... like Chouji's, but unlike his at the same time. The pathways... they're not as deep, though she can clearly see where the chi has been depleted - and that concerns her, but without the urgency of a mallynap she can poke around and see that it's a strain that his body is accustomed to - and accommodates itself around.

There are a few things she can do - adjust the flow here, tweak that there, encourage it to flow further and faster and yes, it begins to respond even at that.]

[He hates being fussed over. It's why it's rare for him to take an injury more serious than chakra depletion on his missions.

That said, like any ninja, he's very conscious of his chakra's behavior in his own body. Shikamaru watches what she's doing in interest, as he did when she did this for Chouji, though he's focused more on what's happening internally.

It's different. Katara's methods aren't quite the same as Ino's or Sakura's; she's not so much molding it to do what it needs to do for him as she is guiding it. The effect is similar, however.]

You'd make a good mednin.

[Katara is not normally one to encourage being spoken too when she's handling a person's lifeforce, but in this case - it's not as if there are any injuries.

And she's curious - the chi system is so well... responsive. She wonders if she can help it even further if she tries... hmm... yeah, that seems like it's working too. Still, if she's going to restore his whole system it will take a little while.]

What's a mednin?

They're ninjas practiced in medical jutsu. One of my teammates, Ino, is one. What you're doing now is kinda similar to what she does.

[Yeah, he can definitely feel the strain on his system wearing away now. The solider pills kept him going throughout the day, but in the end he still ended up pushing himself about three times as hard as he usually would.

The soreness is what had been keeping him upright once they stepped back into the dorms. Now that his chakra circulatory system is being encouraged not to keep pushing itself into overdrive, it's natural system for repairing itself is falling back in place. IE. Now he really is tired, and he's feeling that tug to rest and recover much more acutely.]

[Okay, what she can 'see' now appears to be restoring itself at a normal - if slightly accelerated rate. And she's pretty sure that if she leaves right now and lets him get some sleep he'll wake up fine. But he'll have spent the night restoring his chi, and that's more healing than rest...

And she is interested in what he has to say. But. Mrr.]

That sounds interesting. Chouji told me a little bit about Ino - I'm glad you guys have someone who can heal on your team.

[Her mind is clearly somewhere not entirely on her words. She withdraws her hand.]

You should be back to normal after you sleep now. But I have an idea if you'll let me try it.

Tends to be the fastest way for my chakra reserves to build back up again, yeah.

[He pops his neck, then yawns.] What's the idea?

[She tugs the leather cord around her neck free, out of her tunic. She will forever maintain that it is not paranoia which leads her to keep these things on her at all times, despite what you ninja think or say - it's just keeping what's precious and valuable close.

Shikamaru will note that this time? There are two vials attached, one more noticeably ornate than the other. Katara touches the ornate one.]

This one is the one they gave me at Christmas. This one [she touches the more plain vial] is the one I filled up using the red button earlier. I don't know if it will work, but - better to try it on something like this than a real wound, don't you think?

[He glances at both, recalling what she's explained to him about the special properties of something she called Spirit Water back in her world. He's not sure if he trusts anything the Malnosso had to give - though the second vial is more troublesome than the first. The Malnosso want them dead and their war is the perfect stage.

It takes him less than a second to consider that, and then Shikamaru shifts his attention back to her face. He's not even thinking about what this could do for him if it works anymore, brain quickly zipping back to the mindset of a shinobi. She's right - better here than finding out on the battlefield.]

Go for it. [He doesn't miss a beat, casual as he was seconds earlier.] Just remind me to make up a cooler story if it does something unexpected like melting my arm off.

[Katara shoots him a look.]

Why is everyone worried that this is going to do something bad? It won't work on its own, you know. [She unclasps the plainer vial.]

I still have to use it. If I saw it doing something bad, I'd stop.

[The water streams out, but she doesn't coat her hand with it - instead she leaves it hovering over her hand so as to not ruin any of its special properties.]

Just hold out your hand.

[She streams about half of the water back into the vial. They shouldn't need so much for just what she was doing, and if for some crazy reason all of them were somehow justified, just starting out touching his middle finger should leave her plenty of time to pull back if the sacred spirit water that feels right and powerful and good just when she's holding it actually turns into some sort of monstrous man-eating acid. Eesh.]

[He unfolds one hand open.] S'not like it went anywhere.

[But judging from the way she returns some of the water to its vial, he's glad to see he isn't the only not-not-paranoid one here.]

[She's not not-not-paranoid. She's humoring you. Honestly. She lowers some of the water to his hand, and his chi system lights up in her mind like lightning.

There's no procedure for this - for restoring life - and this water is nearly alive itself. It wants something and Katara can give it the power to achieve it - and so she does, letting the water have its way...

...and the water loses its glow, drops to the floor, and Shikamaru's chi system is filled to the brim with the force of life.]

[Shikamaru's not sure what he was expecting. The unexpected, maybe? Look underneath the underneath and all that stuff he learned in the academy - be prepared for anything.

He wasn't prepared.

It's not a bad feeling. He can tell that much. There's a nearly silent intake of air, and he leans forward just so, staring at his hands as if trying to see it.

It feels like a sudden current through the stream, following the chakra pathways through his organs and brushing past his cells. Never has he been so conscious of it all before - not on this level. It's akin to sensory overload, but gentler if that's possible.

Trained to be so responsive, his chakra spins, less diluted by strain and the energy from the soldier pills that punched through it like a boulder. It begins to clear; to build. And while he doesn't speak, his breathing is easy and the tremors in his hands have finally stilled.]

[Katara notes the change in his breathing and that he seems steadier, more inside his skin - good. Good.]

Better?

[It takes him a second to respond, too busy processing it all and trying to categorize just what that feeling was. But he nods - slowly at first, then once more and firmer as he looks at her again.]

Yeah.

Good.

[And she really is glad to hear that - especially since she won't be going out with him tomorrow. Knowing he'll be able to take care of himself is important.

Katara tucks the vials back under her tunic.]

We'll do the same thing if you need it tomorrow night, too.

[And the night after that... and after that, if it's necessary.]

As long as they can give it to me here - we might as well use it.

Maah, I don't think that'll be necessary. I want to be able to sleep at some point, you know.

[...and not depend on tools provided by the Malnosso to replenish his chakra stores. He trusts Katara and her ability to make the right call on this, but it's still not a situation he wants to place himself in.]

[Huh?]

You should still be able to sleep! [A quick smile.] You just might be able to take a shower without risk of drowning first.
