DOESN'T NEED A CUT. People should know how this works, if not, just follow other people's lead. I'm gonna set up some strategist threads at the top, for the four strategists to use if they want to, otherwise people should start their own threads.

[Hello, Law. Nice weather we're having, yes?

But if you don't mind, Sanji would prefer to skip the pleasantries. He's running straight for the medical center, you see, with an unconscious Nami in his arms, as his legs pump him forward like there's a hell hound out for his blood.

... Maybe not a hell hound, per se, but the enemy (http://i33.tinypic.com/doazwh.png) circling above certainly has a warrant for his demise, and the the way she raises her staff is no idle threat. The air seems to stiffen around her as flicks of electricity crackle, elongate, and when the chef arches his head to see how close she is, he pales in sickening dread.

They're going to hit. Even if he were to drop, even toss Nami and launch an attack (as if he could), some of the bolts would still find their mark. He can't block them all with his body.

And he's not fast enough to outrun them.]

LAW! [He doesn't care what you do - take Nami or launch your own attack, but please, get your shitty ass out here]

Done

[personal profile] deathsdoctor 2011-03-19 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
[Launching a MASSIVE airborne slash at the threat-- and as one of his hands comes off of the sword hilt on the backswing, something blue and bright begins swirling about it.

And is launched at high speed in the path of incoming lightning.]

HURRY!

[He does not know if the slash will take the creature out. It was hastily aimed so he could get the second part of his attack out quickly. Which should be expanding now into a swirling blue screen between you and that creature's lightning to take the brunt of that attack.]

[identity profile] oda-hates-me.livejournal.com 2011-03-19 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
[He doesn't have the time to take in what's happening, neither the airborne slash or the swirl of blue, but Sanji knows when to follow an order. All his thoughts focus on keeping Nami's already battered body still, and managing a few more wide strides before the crackling lightning sharply connects with Law's screen.

The chef nearly jumps at the sound, body tensing for an impact that never comes, but keeps pressing through, hitting his last burst of energy that carries him and his navigator into the medical tent; and the pounding relief damn near chokes him. Whatever Law did worked, scattering the lightning strikes away from them.

But the Azzodess is fast, if not especially strong. Most of the slash misses her, though the tail-end of it does clip her left side, and with a scream of indignation she spirals uncertainly in the sky before righting herself and readying another few shots of lightning]

[Didn't work, huh? That's okay. He knows exactly how to deal with agile and quick little pests like you.

His eyes narrow at the lightning.]

Hn. I don't think so.

Room.

[The tell-tale blue dome forms around the tent as lightning crashes against the energy wall, and new swirling vortexs form at each of his fingertips. Ten in total, and they're sent to various strategic points of the battlefield. Some far out, some nearby. They form small domes, only large enough barely for a man, and Law grits his teeth at the strain of maintaining all these spaces.

This is a taxing use of his power, and what's to come will be more so. But it will end this quickly and that's what's needed now.]

Shambles.

[And suddenly Law begins to flicker in his position, and appears flickering in each of the domes on the field, concentrating, with the nodachi spinning for an attack. Eleven Laws, and if Sanji looks, none of them seems quite material. Quite real.

As if Law himself was slightly out of phase with reality.

And the nodachi flashes in eleven places at the same time, multiple times, and the air is filled with slashes from every direction. No matter where the Azzodess may try to run, to dodge, to evade, there will be an attack coming to meet her.

Enjoy the blitzkrieg.]

[It's the first time Sanji's seen such a clear demonstration of Law's power. Call it morbid curiosity, but the chef is watching and taking note through the hazy fatigue that's demanding he stay still for a spell.

Eleven domes. Eleven Laws. Did he duplicate himself in those controlled spaces of his? Are they real? The glint of metal certainly look sharp enough to kill, no matter which one Sanji chooses to look at. And in the next breath, when they all cut the air and send heavy slashes at a fluttering demon who looks like a vulture caught in a hurricane...

Once the sound of ripping flesh reaches his ears, Sanji turns his head away - not from a lack of nerves, but it's clear this battle is over. The last of his tension eases out. It's over.

... No. No it's not. Abruptly, everything floods back and curls in his stomach like a rough stone, sending Sanji pacing anxiously in place. Nami's here, but he left Noel and Sayo back there.

Shit. He needs to -- Nami will be safe with Law, he's sure of that. But he needs to go back.]

Oi. [he has to swallow a breath and steady some of his breathing] Where do I... [He looks down at Nami, pale and quiet. Another deep breath] Where do I put her?
deathsdoctor: (Neutral and Serious | Pensive)

[personal profile] deathsdoctor 2011-03-20 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
[The domes fade away and Law solidifies, rocking back slightly on his heels. It was not duplication, and they all were real, Sanji. He was simply there in all those spaces.

Think of the flickering like the framed pictures of a movie reel running quickly but not quickly enough to give a seamless image. The rapid continuous displacement of a man accomplishes the same effect.]

Back here. [There is the slightest bit of fading strain in his voice as he hastily leads the way back to a cot surrounded by surgical tools and other equipement. The attack cost him. His eyes are narrowing, diagnosing, and then he's muttering to himself more than anything - fragments of his thought process.]

... massive bloodloss... need to transfuse... gotta get that volume up... wing injury complicating internal injuries... life threatening but not immediately critical...

...

[Snapping out of it as he begins GRABBING things right and left. Hello IV lines, hello plasma, hello scissors. Some of those clothes have to go so he can get better access to those wounds and he is definately trying to replenish that lost volume as quickly as possible.]

Are there more incoming? [It'll take him a moment to clarify as he is quite rightfully distracted, so feel free to interpret that as an inquiry to incoming enemies or patients or both.] If so, I need someone else in here.

I won't be able to handle anyone else. Not until she's stabilized.

[Patients. He'd really appreciate a heads up on those enemies if they are coming... because that thing? That thing was not from the Third Party, and as good as he is, he cannot fight and perform surgery at the same time.

And right now, with this crude approximation of an actual operating theatre, with less than half the tools and drugs and other things he'd normally have at his disposal, he knows his chances at success, true success have been whittled down.

And with a life in his hands he makes a decision. With medicine being as it is, with more potentially about to beat down his door, no matter what Sanji says in answer for incoming (for that is how it is - when it rains, it will pour) he makes a decision.]

Call Katara. I'll need her on hand.

[identity profile] oda-hates-me.livejournal.com 2011-03-20 09:21 am (UTC)(link)
[Resisting the urge to hover, Sanji takes a healthy step back once Nami's laid out on the cot, letting Law do as he sees fit, and leaving the chef to attend to his stifling unease. "Life threatening but not immediately critical..." - Shit. It's as bad as he thought, but his chest clenches and back stiffens at the words all the same; it's one thing to assume, and another hearing the doctor confirm what you wish wasn't true. But, he reminds himself, there's nothing else he can do about it - he did what he had to. Just keep reminding yourself that.

... And that's a good question. It'd be nice if the chef had a good answer. Sanji's voice flattens into a quiet monotone, masking all the frustration this day has brought]
One. [There might be. He doesn't know for sure and it's just another thing to piss him off, how disorganized this has all become.] But she's currently preoccupied.

[For now. Meaning he needs to get back, quickly, on the off-chance that unspoken maybe becomes a certainty.]

Katara-chan! [He doesn't even think twice, when Law requests that name. If she's nearby, she'll hear him. And even if she isn't, Sanji's got his book open as insurance. But either way, she'll hear him and come, because they really need her here right now.]

I'm going back. [He says it on the tail-end of shouting their friend's name, decision clearly made, already shoving his journal inside his jacket] Two women are still out there, and they both might be injured.

[Katara's had her own adventures that morning - but she responds quickly to Sanji's call, rushing inside their make-shift medical center.]

Sanji, what -

[Her stomach lurches at the sight of Nami.] Oh no.

[There's so much blood - she shouldn't be that pale - her arm - the way she's breathing isn't right - it's a good thing she's been getting some medical lessons from Chopper on the side, because what Trafalgar is doing looks so foreign to her that she almost automatically shoulders her way in, coating her hands with water pulled from her waterskin as she does so. As it is, she's very carefully not in Trafalgar's way, but she's laying those hands high on Nami's uninjured shoulder without any invitation to see the extent of the injuries in her own way, and her face goes pale, gaze shooting to Trafalgar's both for instruction and reassurance.]
deathsdoctor: (Anger | Do not fuck with me)

Closest to steely determination icon I have

[personal profile] deathsdoctor 2011-03-21 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
[Law's shoulders tense slightly as he works. One incoming, possibly. 'Preoccupied' does not mean 'neutralized' and for now is sounding very loud in the air. Whoever 'she' is must be powerful - your voice says so, Sanji - and if she gets away, if she is not neutralized (meaning beaten so badly she cannot pose a threat or simply rendered dead) she may come looking to finish the job and at the most inconvient time for everyone possible. Or at a time later on when everyone's breathing a sigh of relief.

And it pisses him off. That possibility. The threat of Third Party hitting the tent is high enough, even defended as it is. Now he has to be on guard for one of their own (whom he cannot even place a face to) and... possibly more than one? That creature might not be the last of it. And he doubts that she or they will be discriminate in their targets should there be an attack. The creature itself did attack the tent in general and not just him before he killed her.

His eyes flash to steel determination. Hell no. He'll be happy to piss them off in turn by denying them that death. And if anyone is stupid enough to attack this tent this go around?

That question does not need to be answered.]

I see. [After you're back and things have... settled, Sanji, he's going to have to ask you who was involved in this. He needs to know.] Thank you. If she comes... [She comes. She'll be handled somehow.]

[... it's just heartbeats between that and Sanji leaving and Katara's arrival and he watches how she pales as she touches Nami's uninjured shoulder and knows she sees how bad it is too. He doesn't know really how her healing powers work (aside from it has to involve water - she's a waterbender) but however it works, he can work with it and they will make this work.

They will start with the most important things. The basics. He will explain what he's doing and why as he goes. It will help.]

Katara.

[It's like back when they first met... that moment of warrior to warrior, but now healer to healer. We are waging war nonetheless. Here is our battleplan.]

We need to stop the bloodloss as much as we can and get her breathing properly first. [She has a punctured and now deflated lung, likely caused by broken ribs lacerating the pleura and the wounds from the bite marks - what got her?! Drake?! - sucking air into the chest cavity. Getting that lung working first is the priority, followed by very careful ventilation.] Once we do that, we'll deal with the chest injures and any internal damage. [She has multiple broken ribs, a broken collarbone, and if he does not see flail chest when that lung is inflated, he'll be surprised. As well they'll need to check to see if those broken ribs punctured anything else, not to mention clean up any bone fragments they might find. As well deal with the actual puncture wounds themselves.] Then we'll take care of the wings, then move onto the arm. [While the arm looks gruesome, it is of lower priority than the nommed on wing - essential for general level of strength and well being.] We'll tackle the slash across her back next, [A sword slash... she was set on by how many?] and then we'll take care of the gashes on her legs.

During all of this, we must make sure she stays warm. Losing this much blood [And therefore a source of a lot of internal body heat.] could lead to hypothermia. We need to prevent that.

But she's strong. She's not going anywhere on us, Katara. [We are not going to let that happen. Ready?

Let's do this.]

it's lovely and epic

[personal profile] markofthebrave 2011-03-22 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
[For a moment, Katara's overwhelmed. She's only had very limited training with her healing; everything that she's done has been instinctive and as a result of immediate need. She lets that feeling rise up and crash over her like a wave - and just like a wave, it passes a moment later. Her hands are steady and her gaze is clear, although most of her attention now is focusing on what she can feel inside Nami, the jumble and clatter of knots as her life crushes around and bleeds out.

Breathe.

He's right about one thing. Nami's will to live is tremendous. She's seen it before. And that hasn't changed. She can feel it.]

I've got her breathing.

[And the glow on the water around her hands intensifies as she begins to direct the chi around Nami's lungs.] My healing works with chi. [Her voice is calm and steady and why hadn't they talked about this earlier?] Her life-force. I can redirect it and encourage it back to its natural state. But it takes time.

[The vials she's wearing press against her chest, but now that Nami's breathing evenly she doesn't dare lift up a hand to take one out.] And I've got some water with - special properties. [How to explain what she doesn't really understand herself?] It brings life back.
