Aha. [A simple statement to himself. He grasps the logic now, and sets to work removing the sections that control the overall behavior of the program, while leaving the functional segments alone. In a few minutes he says:]

[ sure enough, the buffybot's eyes shut. like sleep. there are no sounds -- no whirs or clicks or obvious noises of machinery. she'll boot back in a moment. ]

Triggering? [There is a warning tone in Jack's voice; he wants to trust Donatello with this but the whole thing is making him very nervous.]

[ a twitch. after a moment, her eyes open -- suddenly, abruptly. ]

Willow? [ or at least, she assumes. ]

[Don keeps one eye on Buffy and one on his laptop, which is showing its own diagnostics of the bot's system. All looks well on the CPU level, but he'll wait to see how the program reacts.]

[ she twists in her seat, straining the cords. ] Hello, again. [ at least she's not asking for spike anymore. ]

[Well at least she's not asking after that buggering Spike anymore!]

[When Jack addresses Donatello again, his tone is very tentative.]

You think she's alright, turtle? Can we bring her back?

[Something still doesn't seem quite right. Don taps a few keys, trying to see what part of the program is still causing problems.]

[ it's a newer piece of programming than the spike obsession -- left over from when the real slayer was dead and the scoobies so consistently had to remind the robot how to be buffy. to remember to breath. silly, little things. ]

Willow's going to let me make the sandwiches. You can help, if you want. [ she could be addressing either of them, really. ]

I'm moving 1.2.2 live, then I'm out. I think the code changes are causing the program to divert to alternate stable subroutines...
