"Mmmmrph mmm mfff!"

That was the best he could answer, with his mouth being so full of bugs and all.

However, upon chewing and swallowing them, Sparrow decided that he actually liked the flavor of one or two of them. He peered down at where Kennedy had oiled him up.

"Erm.....thank you."

[Oh GROSS Jack. Kennedy pockets the oil.] It'll help keep them off you.

"That last one tasted a bit like plum pudding..." Sparrow wiped his mouth on his sleeve and glanced around. The bridge they were standing on disappeared into the heavy foliage of the tree next door.

"Shall we?"

"Shall we what?"

Then he saw the bridge.

"I suppose you want to see if the bridge is sturdy enough."

"I do. You go first, eh?"

That was a joke, Archie.

"I suppose if I did you'd say you were only risking yourself."

Instead of answering, Jack turned and ran lightly across the bridge, disappearing into the tree beyond. Before long Archie might here the squawking of an indignant parrot.

"PARROT! PARROT!"

"Jack!" Alarmed, Archie darted after him, ready to pull him back up if he stepped on a decrepit board...but everything seemed to hold. He muttered a few words his mother did not teach him. "Are you capable of focusing on one thing at a time?" he shouted before reaching the tree.

Capable? YES Jack was capable; it just so happened that a large, colorful macaw had its claws dug into the front of his shirt and was flapping madly in his face.

"Kennedy! It wants me dead!"

Kennedy froze for half a second, then...smiled, just a little, at how utterly ridiculous Jack looked. Death by parrot. Right.

The parrot flapped away once the other sailor made an appearance.

"It BIT me, blast it!" Jack rubbed his nose. "I hate jungles. Why are these creatures not attacking you? Did you smear anti-parrot juice down your front, lad?"

And now he was laughing. Softly, but laughing. And shaking his head.

"Right. Now I want to shoot something. Are there no Third Party bastards in this primitive tree village?"

"I suppose there's no choice but to find out."

"Right. I'll go first." Jack entered one of the small huts built up on the platform where they are standing. It's like the Ewok village, more or less, if the Ewoks were tall and winged.

Inside he finds a fairly empty room. There IS a table in the corner with a stack of papers on it, though, and several canisters.

Kennedy follows him in, looking wary. Immediately he goes to the papers, examining them to determine their importance.

Sparrow, meanwhile, is opening the canisters, tossing them aside carelessly when he finds them empty. All but the last: that is filled with some kind of strange, fragrant blue powder.

"What say those papers, Lieutenant?"

"Records of supplies. Food, weapons, and the like." He peers at the powder. "What have you there?"

"Any maps? References to a cache?" He ignores the question in favor of tasting the powder.


"I...don't know rightly what sort of thing it is. Thought it was a spice, but..."

"Careful, it could be poison." Archie rifles a bit through the papers. He finds one, and turns it right-way-up. "A map, but not of anywhere near here. Or at least, the village isn't on it. No point of reference."

"Kennedy?"

There is nothing noticeably the matter with Jack, probably, at first glance, except that the bottoms of his feet are hovering several inches above the floor.

Kennedy turns abruptly, alarmed, then...stares.

He stayed very still.

"The powder. Is floaty. Floaty blue powder."

"Magic." Not witchcraft--he's made a distinction. Kennedy puts down the papers and approaches the canister, peering in, then drawing out a pinch and rubbing it between his fingers to see if it'll have the same effect.
