A pretty good one too, as she's yanked right up through the open hole in the ceiling area]

RAINE!? [If there is one sort of trap Jack is intimately familiar with, it is the snare. The pirate desperately tries to trigger another, aiming not to get caught in it but to free a rope that he can use to follow her.]

Raine, I'm coming, love, I'm--

[SCORE. Sparrow steps aside just in time to avoid being snared himself, while grabbing hold of the rope that yanks him upwards through the very ceiling where the sage disappeared.]

RAINE? [It's DARK up here.] Where are you?!

[wise_maiden]

[For the moment, there's no answer-- only the sound of a slab of stone falling, falling and crack on the path below.

Then:]

My precious sample!



[Oh, the echo. That's probably not good. That might stir anything hiding up here in the dark. Strangely leafy dark, at that.]

[all7seas]

Raine. Forget. The. Sample. Bugger. Where. Are. YOU? [He gropes around for her in the dark, hoping against hope that another trap won't spring and that he won't go crashing through the floor.]

[wise_maiden]

I'm a few feet above you. Maybe. Stop moving around and I'll try to make a -- ...



Oh. So that's still not working...

[In the darkness, the pirate stretches his arms out as high as he can, trying to get hold of her.]

Shifter nearby? Bugger.

[wise_maiden]

[It takes a few moments, but she's finally able to get that knife out of her bag and cut herself free.

... But she's hesitant to drop down in case there might not actually be something to drop down to, instead clinging to the rope.]

Jack?

[all7seas]

Darling?

[wise_maiden]

There aren't any large gaping holes in the floor, are there? It would be impractical if I missed this jump.

[all7seas]

Well why don't you let me catch you? I haven't found any holes yet, but I'm here, love.

[wise_maiden]

But Jack, that's -- [She fall silent for a moment as she listens now, to the sound of the rope starting to come apart.] Just make sure you catch my bag first, all right?

[all7seas]

Send it down, darling; this temple is one great trap and I don't relish the idea of sitting in it any longer.

[He waits, ready---even though he can't actually SEE anything. He again brings up his arms, feeling around for the sage swinging somewhere above him.]

[wise_maiden]

[First the bag-- it's packaged well but still reasonably light to carry. Her staff is attached to it though, which might make it awkward for catching. He might be able to judge her distance to him from that, at least-- maybe about two to three feet above where his hands can reach. After all, the people who built this place could fly.]

[all7seas]

Ouch. Right. Got the bag. Right in the head. [He sets it on the floor beside him, along with the staff, and, more confident about her location now, reaches for her.]

Now I need the beauty.

[wise_maiden]

-- Right. I'll be right --

[The tear of the rope again. She jumps back as it starts to fall, managing a backflip as she heads downward. Will the pirate catch her?]

[Yes---somehow---he manages it, though his grip might be a bit rough. He doesn't want to drop her.]

Hear me now, darling: we? Are leaving this temple, together, you and I. No more fancy rocks; you know those Malnosso. They won't allow any treasure back to the village, will they?

[wise_maiden]

... No, I suppose not, but -- [She could have at least made some sort of copy, maybe. Not that it was anywhere within reach.]

we'll need to find a way out of it first. There must be an opening somewhere.

[all7seas]

[The pirate set her down carefully, keeping hold of her hand. It wouldn't do to get separated in the dark.]

Perhaps we should listen for one...

[wise_maiden]

[When he sets her down, Raine moves to lift up her bag again. She closes her eyes; not that it's much good in the dark, but there's something about the gesture that helps focus the other senses better. If only there wasn't a shifter nearby; that would make this a lot easier.] If we can get to a more open area... we just need to get a better feel of things. The air.

[Hand in hand in the darkness, Jack waits. A very slight breeze stirs his dreadlocks, and he turns his face in its direction. Perhaps...]

This way, love.

[wise_maiden]

... Don't let your guard down.

[But it was a start. To the left, was it? Perhaps there's a wall, or something further... a passage?]

Feels like a passage, mistress. [One hand on the damp, insect-covered wall confirms this.] If only we had a light...

[wise_maiden]

My magic still isn't working, but -- I might have something we can use in my bag. [She slips it open, carefully rummaging- aha.] Flashlights. And if that power for some reason doesn't hold out, we could resort to ordinary torches.
