Where: The Mountains, up in Jack's Cave
Summary: Saber (and co?) goes to confront Jack about his greed and gold, hoping to pull him out of his curse.
Rating: PG-13 to R for language and violence


[Lately Jack had been having dark dreams and with no one to share them with. He had grown more distant, spending more time in his cave, and it took longer and longer for him to roll about in his gold to push away those feeling. The images he had seen were vague... but from what he could see was a king who had won many wars, a demon from the gates of hell to claim the soul he had bargained away, a warrior shrouded in shadows, and a soldier with a monstrous form that seemed almost familiar to him. His dreams had all come to one conclusion.

They were coming for him. He had no idea why, but he could only conclude they would be the end of him.

... well let them come. See how they deal with Jack Horner.]

((ooc: Gonna have two threads here. One for a meetup before running into Jack, if you guys want, then another one for them to actually arrive and confront him. Let me know if there's anything that is fishy or needs clarified.))

[Since their last meetup (http://heroicarturia.livejournal.com/3848.html?thread=347400#t347400) a week ago Saber has been preparing to go to the mountains to find where Jack was. She knew she was being stubborn, but she didn't care. A promise is a promise and she never backs down on one. Not when Jack is stuck in such a form because of the influence of something as silly as gold. She isn't quite sure where he is, but missing a giant dragon in the mountains couldn't be too difficult. It was best to strike now before the night came. Maybe if he was hunting at the time it could be easy to move away the gold, or demolish it.

That was the hope at least.

Once she prepares herself, she leaves her house and starts moving to the teleporter. She isn't interested in the hotsprings, but this should at least get her to the mountains and from there it's a matter of searching.]

[Karai certainly would prefer not running into Jack, and would hope that even if they do that diplomacy is the more viable option... but she's come prepared to defend herself if she has to.

She rises from her crouch by the teleporters as Saber comes into view and gives the woman a friendly nod. ...which is her version of a smile.]

You are ready?

[Saber does not smile either and makes a nod. She's relieved Karai would come with her on something like this, despite the danger it could present. It was the mark of a true warrior.]

I am. If we move quickly we might be able to track his location before he returns to his cave.

I have an idea at least of the rough area. It helps to narrow things down. [There hopefully can't be too many likely places for a dragon-sized mountain in the area, at any rate. Moving quickly is wise, so without further ado Karai enters the teleporter. They can discuss more on the way if need be.]

[She nods and follows after Karai into the teleporter. It doesn't even take a few seconds for it to transport to the mountains.]

If you would not mind leading the way, you may have more knowledge of these terrains than I.

[And Karai will take the lead, heading out of the springs and further into the mountains-- and keeping an eye on the surroundings in case of returning dragons :| Won't be too hard from this vantagepoint.]

[One such dragon is on his way back and will be flying overhead after some time into their journey. He doesn't appear to notice them as he does, though it certainly does indicate that they are on the right track. They'll just have to climb a rather menacing looking cliff to get up to his cave, as there is no easier way in which to get up there.]

[Saber follows along Karai's path, keeping up a good pace, until she notices Jack from above.]

...It seems we will not be given the element of surprise in this.

...no. [Her eyes narrow, reassessing the situation. It's an annoyance. But still...

...well, they were prepared for this.]

Can you climb?

[As Jack lands, a coupe of rocks loosen from the cliff above and scatter to the ground towards the two women, but are fortunately not large enough to be anything more than nuisance. Jack subsequently heads into his cave, ready to sleep.]

I can. Scaling a mountain like this might take a while, but I think I should be fine. [It was a pain and she didn't expect it to be so high up. But, she'll take on the risk.]

[Karai sidesteps away from one of those rocks as it bounces past her feet, and she pitches her voice lower, gauging how much distance she has to work with. It's only thirty feet.]

I may be able to assist if needed.

If she does need the help, Karai has rope she can lower down.]

[Saber isn't doing half-bad, her armor plating helping to keep her steady against the rocky terrain as she climbs. It may not look it, but she does have a good amount of upper body strength from her training. Though Karai will obviously be faster at scaling it. Just give her a few moments, Miss Ninja.]

[No problem there. Karai will just... take a look at the surroundings while Saber finishes the trip. There's the cave entrance, not so far off. No prize as to where the dragon's disappeared to.

She'll wait for Saber before making any further move.]

[Saber will catch up in a few moments, taking a moment to breathe from the climb. Once she's ready she straightens herself and nods to Karai.]

Lets go. [She says in a hushed voice, not risking the possibility of Jack hearing her.]

[The cave seems entirely dark until one red eye opens, glowing in spite of the shadows, followed by smoke blowing along the floor of the cave.]

There's no point in hiding. I can smell you.

[Another eye opens and the two red orbs suddenly rise as Jack gets to his feet, slowly stepping into the light, but not quite leaving his cave.]

So what the hell do you want?

[Saber's expression doesn't waver at Jack's greeting, nor does she seem exactly surprised.]

We're here to rid you of that cursed gold, Jack.

[His claws tighten and dig into the ground, angered at the thought of anyone touching his gold. He sneers and his eyes brighten as he answered in a throaty voice:]

That's really sweet of you. But I'm going to pass, now beat it.

[Her expression is determined and yet cold at the same time. She won't let Jack persuade her into leaving.]

[He takes a few more steps out of the cave, so he can tower of them with his size. He snorts out smoke at the both of them.]

This is your last chance!

[The size is definitely daunting, but she's not afraid. She's faced dragons before and she can do so again.]

This is your last chance as well.

[She puts her armored hands in front of her and a small blue glow comes from between her hands. The invisible sword has been drawn.]

Surrender the gold.

[And then... he laughs. Help him, was it? With a sword? He wasn't stupid!]

So that's it? You're going to kill me and steal my gold? Well fuck you!

[And with that, he suddenly sends hot flames directly in Saber's direction, hot enough that they could even incinerate Karai just by proximity.]

[Yeah, no. Karai leaps clear, trusting that Saber can look after herself. She doesn't hesitate as she lands, shifting on her feet to face him, one sword flashing out.

...one plain everyday katana versus a dragon. Well, it's a challenge, at any rate.]

[Saber leaps as well, dodging the flames swiftly. She's in much better shape than she was a week ago and it was clear he was going to attack, once she said 'gold' and 'surrender' in the same sentence.

She braces her sword tightly and waits for an opening. Fighting in a cave was not going to work to their advantage, if Jack could just breathe fire constantly.]
