Summary: The ocean part of the promised swim lessons!

The water is relatively calm today, which makes it easier for lessons. Lucky~! It feels like any beach trip might.

Ami, clothed in shorts and a shirt over her bathing suit and wearing a whistle around her neck, wades just a short distance into the water so that it laps at her bared feet. She digs her toes deeper into the muck, unseen.

She has a few extra whistles for other instructors or helpers, and she looks over the group assembled. This is the first time she's really put herself forward like this, though she's confident in her skills. Hopefully it will go well.

Lucy would love to start splashing in the shallows immediately, but of course such an action would be going against the point of an organized swim lesson. So she'll stand in her bathing suit on the sand among the other prospective students and say hello to whomever is nearby.

Ami greets Lucy quite cheerfully, with a broad smile.

"Lucy! I'm glad you came." She'd worried a little that no one would come, an insecurity that never seemed to die from when she was younger. With someone else arriving, she feels reassured.

"I wouldn't miss this for anything," Lucy says, and she means it; it involves friends and learning new things, two things she never gets tired of.

"We're just gathering," Ami assures Lucy. "You're not late."

As promised to Ami, Ginia is on the beach to serve as a lifeguard. Having found a beach chair and a crate to put it up on, Ginia sits and watches, whistle around her neck, and a pair of binoculars at her side.

Ami approaches Ginia with a smile. "I'm glad you came." She means it. They'd hit it off in an odd way, and it's nice to have time together again.

"You even brought a whistle of your own after all." She grins and holds up an extra of hers.

Ginia gives Ami a small wave and smiles back, reaching for her notepad and pen.

Found it with some basketballs and a volleyball net. The binoculars were a good find too, you can never go wrong with those.

She stops writing for a moment to admire the lake and the general scenery.

Quite the lovely day isn't it.

Ami smiles and dips her head in a slight nod after reading the note. "It sounds like you're ready for the beach, no matter what."

"Are you ready to swim?"

At the perimeter of the group, trying his best not to look horrendously nervous for multiple reasons, is Robert. He doesn't want to risk himself unnecessarily, but the group of people at the beach is large enough that it shouldn't be too big a danger to be here. But less immediate things have made him anxious as well - for example, the prospect of baring his arms and chest in a place with so many people, even briefly, to put on the "rash guard" shirt he got for swimming. (Even Robert knows his lab coat isn't going to be suitable for the ocean.)

He smiles, a little awkwardly but genuinely, over at Ami when he notices her.

"I see there is, er, quite the crowd..." Robert notes, clutching the familiar white cloth bag to his chest. "Your lessons must be... popular."

Ami offers Robert a faint smile and nods in greeting. "Good afternoon. I'm glad you came," she says politely.

She stays in the water, just that little bit, lapping over her feet to her ankles now.

"Are you ready? You wanted instruction, wasn't that right?"

"That is correct, Doctor Mizuno," Robert says, smiling a little more despite himself. "I, er, just need to change my clothing... it would be inefficient to attempt to swim with my lab coat." He glances down at the offending article almost sheepishly.

"... It may have been a more... prudent idea to have worn it under my clothing..."

"Ah, that's fine," Ami says, "But, I'm not sure where a good place to change will be." She cranes her neck to peer up and down the beachfront. "Anywhere with privacy..."

Despite the threat from Saki, Leo came down for the lessons. He lived on the east coast for most of his life, but he's never gotten to the ocean. The smell of the salt water, the feel of the sand under his feet. It's quite a change.

He's not quite completely relaxed, as he checks around as he heads down to join the gathering group. He's at least left his swords back home, though. He's not wearing any clothes other than his usual though, he can swim like this just fine.

Ami can be in charge of safety for the day; the water itself will rise up to defend them all if she needs it to.

When she spots Leo, she bobs her head in a polite nod and comes up smiling. "I'm glad you came." She might be surreptitiously trying to peek behind him to see if Mike's coming.

That would definitely be a good defense. Not much can stop water.

He nods politely to Ami in return, giving a small smile. "Thanks. I figured it would be a good chance to see the ocean finally." Mikey should be along at some point, he wasn't that far behind him.

"Has everyone been doing well?" Has there been trouble with Karai and Sakai? Has anyone been hurt? Their feud wasn't hers - they'd each made that clear in their own ways - but she was concerned for people involved on both sides of it.

It was an uncomfortable position, one she'd be glad to forget momentarily, to enjoy the water.

Since fixing the physical TARDIS wasn't going well at all and it seemed they might be in for an extended stay, swimming lessons seemed practical. She understood the physics of it perfectly, but sometimes driving this body was a bit of a challenge. Better to practice in a controlled situation just in case.

The wardrobe was stocked with everything one could possibly need, so the TARDIS arrived looking more or less normal, if a little old to be a beginner.

Ami tactfully avoids calling any attention to anything out of place with the TARDIS. Instead, she smiles politely and dips her head in a half-bow.

"Thank you for coming. I'm Ami Mizuno," she'd gotten used to giving her name in the Western order. "Pleased to meet you."

"Well, it's best to be prepared." She grins, but the smile soon falters. "My name is...Sexy." The Doctor said it was her name- twice!- so why does everyone act like it's horribly strange? It's not like it's a Gallifreyan concept that can't translate.

Mulder comes along, suited up and ready to literally dive right in. He's always liked swimming and is glad he can help out. It seems like something that's much needed with all the water that surrounds Luceti. Overall, he's got a very casual demeanor, and is keeping an eye out for where he's most needed.

Ami is, admittedly, relieved as familiar faces make their way to the lessons; it'll be a lot less nerve-wracking with people she always knows and feels herself on good terms with.

"Mr. Mulder. I'm glad you came." He looks ready, she notes; another plus.

"I'm glad to be here, it looks like you picked a good day for this." A nice hot, very summer-like day is perfect for doing swim lessons. Any excuse to get in and cool off is worth it, too. "Let me know if there's anything in particular you want help with."

Usagi doesn't particularly need lessons - while she's pretty clumsy at most things, at least she knows how to swim without drowning herself - but she is here all the same since Ami organized all of this. She stands there with a grin, already in a swimsuit (even though she's only been here for a while, she's managed to get that much) and looking ready to dive into the water and have fun.

After all, what is more fun than doing fun things like swimming with friends?

"Alriiight!" she lets out that shout, almost echoing across the water. "I can't waiiit!"

Ami's smile brightens the second she sees Usagi. She waves her over.

"I'm glad you came. You're even on time!" No, that wasn't teasing Usagi about how often she's late; what are you saying? "We'll make you into a professional athlete, now!"

She does pout a little at the remark, although part of it is just exagerrating being offended. "Ami-chan, of course I'd be on time..! Geez, do you really think I'd be late to your swimming lessons?"
