Let 'em say we're crazy, I don't care about that!

Who: Everyone!
What: The final day. Moonfall. Twenty-Four hours remain. How do you spend it?
When: The 30th, all day
Where: Anywhere
Summary: The last day. The end has come. The moon is coming down and piercing the barrier. Nothing can stop it.
Rating: It will vary.

Details are here. But here's a recap and expansion!

By the time morning hits Luceti, the Moon has begun to breach the barrier, noticeable by how the barrier will fluctuate about the Moon's face in strange ribbons of energy. The oceans and lakes begin to rage as they are caught by the Moon's gravity. The ground begins to quake in an unsettling way. Small and harmless tremors that will slowly intensify over the course of the day. With the Moon already partway through the barrier, it will be noticeable that it is not quite as large as the real Moon. Though quite vast, the Moon itself does is not quite the entire size of Luceti, but is large enough to span the entire village and more. The Moon's angered face does not cease for a moment, even as it becomes the only sight in the sky.

Yet it remains in the sky, slowly breaking through the barrier, and proving indestructible in spite of all that is thrown at it. In the evening it will begin to cause gravitational disturbances, drawing up debris and small objects into the air. When it finally reaches midnight, the bottom of the Moon will be one mile above Luceti. At that point, all will suddenly black out and know no more. What becomes of the Moon? Does Luceti go splat? Will CJ finally get his moon rocks? Stay tuned!

She turned around -- surprised. Bagel halfway to her mouth.

"What? Was I the last person to learn?" Of course -- Buffy had known since the fairy tale Shift. But she simply assumed that she was late to the party.

"...The only time I talked to Alice, she asked if me and Giles were together." A barely suppressed shudder. "So I'm not convinced that she knows anything about what's going on. But I heard it from Ginia herself." And promptly threatening Ginia rather brashly.

Of course -- some of this confusion might be cleared up by Buffy eventually learning that Alice and Ginia were two sides of the same coin.

Well THAT was alarming.

"...Madwoman?" Ginia had already managed to insult the Slayer on one account -- albeit a minor one. She might be on the lookout for ammo.

"Well, she thinks she's Alice. No, no---Alice is Ginia. Ginia is Alice. That's what she told me, at least. Sort of mad, isn't it?"

Maybe he had misjudged futuristic madness-standards. It wouldn't be the first time.

Buffy clearly needed a moment over this one. "...Alice is Ginia?"

With echoes of ...Ben is Glory?

"Perhaps he's just afraid you'll disapprove of her."

Though why Giles would think that, Jack had no clue. Buffy was dating one of the maddest of them all, when all was said and done.

"He once broke things off with a woman just for hiding things from me, you know. From us. From the team. But I guess he...I guess he doesn't remember that. But he will. And meanwhile I am going to keep the brakes nice and applied on this judging Ginia train but...hmm. We'll see."

And all of a sudden, the intensely irrational over-protectiveness goes both ways.

Jack wisely kept silent on this topic. For one thing, Giles could be dating one of the llamas--or were they alpacas?---at the farm, and he could care less. For another, Buffy probably just wanted someone to air those things to rather than to be told what he thought about them, which was mostly...He could be dating a llama/alpaca and I could care less.

"Of course! Broken trains, Annie. Whatevertheyare. Highly smart of you, really."

"I...wasn't. What would you prefer that I say? 'He'll soon be back and everything will be fine until he finds yet another way to fling himself to the devil?' Because that wouldn't be very nice, would it?"

Probably he shouldn't have said that. But Jack had a very low opinion of the former Watcher's sense of self-preservation.

Jack took his time with his. The granola bar had taken the edge off, after all. "So if this moon moves any closer tonight, we just distract her, you 'an me. And put her to bed earlyish. And not leave her side."

The prospect of not doing this alone was a heartening one.

"And not leave her side," Buffy confirmed. There was the nagging worry that she was perhaps making this call based on a complex web of loyalties. Love for House Seven -- the house she couldn't bring herself to abandon in the middle of a crisis because of the other things it stood for. Love for Jack -- and a long standing dialogue between the both of them about remaining firmly in each others' loops. This wasn't heroism by the numbers. This wasn't pragmatism. This was a selfish kind of heroism.

But that had worked for her in the past, hadn't it?

Buffy hoisted herself up onto the countertop, heels hitting the cupboards below.
all7seas: (not a cry you can hear at night)

[personal profile] all7seas 2011-10-31 03:13 pm (UTC)(link)
So there was dinner---screw the granola bars and peanut butter: sweet potato fries done properly, and burgers, and macaroni and cheese out of the box.

And later in the evening, with Buffy's expert guidance, a couch fort was constructed. Every suitable cushion in the house was raided, including a fair few of the decorative throw pillows from her bed. It was fanciful indeed, and the pirate found himself with only half a mind on the moon that was possibly encroaching outside. If you build enough worlds on the inside, the outside one can comfortably fade.

And there were stories, about pirates and fairies, and when was the last time Jack Sparrow had felt this tired? He gamely told another when asked before realizing the child was asleep, her long dark lashes curling down against her cheeks. And what better place, really, than this fortress of cushions? Keeping close by in case she woke, Sparrow allowed himself to doze off as well. It would just be for a moment. Just a moment, and no longer, because he had told Kennedy he would look after her. But a few moments of sleep would not make a difference, to Jack's mind. Contented with the state of things, and the overwhelming sense of victory in keeping the girl physically secure and not-afraid, the pirate drifted off to sleep.
