Event Log - Total Recall

Who: You and you and mostly me and you
What: Everyone's been Shifted in their own way
When: A hero doesn't care if this event last a whole ten days
Where: Everyone can blaze a hero's trail
Summary: It's that special time when the Malnosso collect all their recent experiments and apply them all at once to measure effectiveness. Although invaluable as research, it tends to leave the subjects looking just a bit mad.

So there is a mod post and it pretty much tells you EVERYTHING you need to know. This is a mass log for people to comment around on if they don't want to make posts. Or even if they want to make posts anyway. There will be at least one more of these later in the event! ENJOY!

We're always given the short end of the stick, and just when it looks like we can finally be free... [Eyes hard, her voice is firm with her determination.] I'm going to do what I can to protect my village but after that I'm going to fight it. I don't know how but I have to try.

[He wasn't used to seeing such a strong spark in the young woman, but Red grins at the familiarity of her words.] You know? My circumstances are a little different, but I do feel the same. Promises are promises, and duty is duty.

...what kind of world is yours again?

You're right, and I have a duty to fulfill when I get home. [Casting a quick glance over the seating area to make sure she's not ignoring any other customers she relaxes into the seat a little bit more.]

It's Earth but it's a lot different than the other versions you hear about. Seven years ago we were all living under ground because of the beastmen and the Spiral King. We're on the surface now but it's still a pretty harsh environment.

[Red makes a mental note to copy down later--this was definitely a Shift.]

Harsh how? You overthrew your despot, which gives you a chance to start over with a new goal in mind.

It's a desert planet. [Need she say more?] Even if our society has been progressing at an accelerated rate there are still a lot of areas in the world where the resources simply aren't readily available.

Oh, so it's like Tatooine...

[He didn't begrudge Luke his homeworld, but would always be more comfortable on city worlds like Taris or Nar Shaddah. There was something too...desperate and primal about desert worlds, but he couldn't blame her.]

That really does sound harsh! How have you been managing here, then?

Oh, you know, throwing myself at every large body of water I find, eating as many fruits and vegetables that I can get my hands on. There were a few fertile areas of land around but growing up it was hard to find anything edible that grew out of the earth.

It's easier knowing you have fresh water and aren't constantly threatened with heat stroke.

Makes sense enough. This place must be smoothe sailing for you then, aside from our bizarre captivity.

There is the potential to have a good life here but it's not somewhere I'd willingly be what with all of the experiments. I have to say though...out of everything in my world, I miss my Kaneri the most.

[And he missed the variety of lifeforms, the speeders, the periodic contacts with Luke about another job for his Order...or, in Lupin's case, his Mercedes and the Autobahn. Can't forget that.]

We all have something that we miss; it's just a matter of dealing until we can get our lives back. There's nothing wrong with trying to do something good while here, though. Like all of this. I'm taking notes on this Shift.

[Sabriel nods, giving the notes sprawling the table a curious glance.]

Have you found out anything interesting?

Just that there's several different 'themes' this round. Bodily alteration, changing world anchors, age progression or regression...

[People forgetting about him.] Normally it's just one experiment. This is a bunch of them.

[That makes Sabriel blink with surprise but really, with everything the Malnosso have done not only to her but to others around the village as well she shouldn't be surprised.]

Changing world anchors again? That was a pain to deal with the first time it happened.

You're telling me. I only exist because of that.

[The question that bothered now was whether it was appropriate or not to tell Sabriel that he suspected that she was affected by an anchoring shift herself.]

You- wait, really? [Now that is interesting...and a little discerning because she remembers dealing with Red when there were no Shifts in progress and he hadn't acted any different really...not that she could tell anyway.]

You mean that you, the Red that I first met in the library, are a figment of a Shift?

That's right. [He sighs, and runs a hand through his dark hair.] The rest of the time has been the owner of this body, Lupin. You've spoken to him more since then--he's the one who set up the ziplines and everything.

...I only know all of this because I'm some sort of firewall for Lupin now. The Malnosso attempted a third anchoring--I purged it from the system after a few days.

Your real name is Lupin? [The ziplines...and all that time she had been calling him 'Red', even though it wasn't his name. She was annoyed at the Malnosso before and this just adds fuel to the pit of frustrated bitterness she seems to be gathering.]

It can happen more than once? That's just...they have no right to manipulate us like this.

The man that owns this body is called Lupin, but he doesn't mind being called Red. It amuses him, makes him feel comfortable. Only a few people ever do that, you know.

[He watches her solemnly as she bristles with her rage, biting back the bits of wisdom he's siphoned off of Luke and his Order over the years. Instead he shrugs helplessly before her anger.] They have no right, but there's really nothing we can do about it Sabbi. Nothing except bide our time and be as comfortable as possible while we wait for an opening.

[Biting back any more scathing remarks about their captors or their captivity Sabbi nods, expelling her irritation in a soft huff of breath. No point beating the dead horse with her anger, it wasn't going to change their situation.]

If you find out anything you'll let me know, won't you? I want to help.

Of course~ [There's a playful wink along with the smile he gives her.] You're a friend. Why would I do any less? You'd do the same anyway, so it's only fair.

[The wink earns a soft chuckle from her as she smiles, relaxing back into the seat.] Thanks Red.

About Luceti as a whole or the Shifts?

Let's just start with the past week.

Well, a lot of people seem to be under a variety of different Shifts, like a changed gender or becoming young...and if you're back then I suppose the world anchor change Shift could be back in effect for those who volunteered for it the first time around.
