[Steve is on his morning jog, not willing to let this week's insanity throw him off his schedule. He uses this time to clear his mind and relax. But the sight of a man suddenly appearing in a tree as he passes does throw him off his pace.]

Are you alright up there?

Oh, I'm just dandy~

[Lies. He's dressed, still wet from from his shower, and the look on his face says that he's anything but dandy.]

[Let it never be said that Steve couldn't take a facial cue.]

Do you need a hand?

[He's limber, he's agile, he's--

not at the top of his game. Lupin looks at the surrounding branches, his relative height, and the blond man as he thinks.]</smalL. ...you know? Sure. Could we find a place that sells coffee too?

[He raises a brow at the mention of coffee but shrugs.] Uh, sure. Whatever you want.

[He walks up to the base of the tree and very easily and quickly climbs up the lower branches. When he gets close to Lupin, he stops and turns around.] Hold onto my shoulders, okay? I'll get us back down.

[He flushes with embarrassment at the suggestion.]
I just need a hand to figure this mess out, not a ride...

[But a guide is helpful. He gingerly maneuvers his way over to the stranger, carefully monitoring his motions the entire time.]

Just a hand is good. I think.

Thanks for the assist.

[Steve nods and holds out a hand towards him.]

I'll start back down first, but I'll go slow so you can follow. Alright?

Uh...right.

[So embarrassing, but he saw that his options were limited. Either accept the aid or fall fantastically out of the tree and be even more embarrassed.

He'd get the man something for his trouble later.]

Sure. It would be nice to have both feet on the ground again.

[He starts his slow climb down the tree, moving, agile, across the branches.]

How did you get up here?

[Fortunately it's only sudden movements that really get him. He's still agile and dexterous, just unsteady. The going isn't terribly hard, but the sudden transport was jarring at first.]

It's the current Shift. It's sending me everywhere but where I want to go. [He glances at the stranger, curious.]

This your first one? You look new.

[Oh. That makes sense. Steve has had a bit of experience in that area himself.]

There's a lot of that going around.

[He looks over his shoulder at him for a moment, and nods.]

Yeah. Is it that easy to tell?

It's a small community, and I haven't seen your face before.

[He shrugs idly, still watching where he's putting his feet as he scales downward. While he could take a fall, he had an image to maintain. The last thing he wanted was the concern of complete strangers.]

I've been here a little over two weeks now.

[Finally he reaches the bottom hanging branch and braces himself against the trunk. The drop down would be nothing for him. He's fallen from three times the height before. But he has someone else to look out for.]

Can you make the jump down?

It's been a quiet couple of weeks too..

[He makes a quick survey as he nears the bottom, taking note of the location of the roots and any other potential obstacles. He's made more dangerous jumps at home...but things changed.]

...I think I've got this.

['I think'. He wasn't certain, but he had a degree of pride to maintain. He gripped the branch with his hands and swung down, bracing himself against the hazing blur that accompanied a potential bout of vertigo. After a few seconds he steadies himself enough to drop--

and doesn't land near as gracefully as he would have liked. Instead of crouched knees and catlike dexterity, he topples sideways into the dirt upon landing.]

--I'm fine. [The assurance was automatic.] Just a little clumsy there is all.

[Steve watches his drop and follows after him almost immediately. He manages to land on his feet and even makes the movement look graceful. His quick concern is eased when Lupin says he's alright, but Steve holds out a hand to help him up anyways.]

You did well...up until you lost balance. Have you done this sort of thing before?

[The aid is again accepted, with a sheepish smile.]

More often lately--it's a small gift from our 'benefactors.'

Thanks for the assist. Uh..how about we get coffee?

[He's not sure what to think about the gifts comment, but puts it aside for the moment.]

Your welcome. And coffee sounds great. I'm still learning the place though.

[Make nothing of it. It's a partial lie anyway.]

I'll show you where to get some then. There's a bakery in town that uses a really nice blend, and there probably will be another coffee shop around here in a few months. If we're lucky.

Alright, lead the way.

[He'll just follow where ever Lupin leads because it's safer than getting them lost.]

So, how long have you been here?

[With this Shift, the odds were high that they were going to get lost anyway. Especially if they went through a door together.]

It will be in the center of town, within sight of the Fountain. It will be hard to miss.

I've been here for about eight months now. It's a little bit hard to believe sometimes, but this place isn't terrible. It's just very, very flawed...and it's nothing like any of our homes.

[~~But at least they'd be together.~~ With their luck, they'll make it to the place, go through the door, and end up somewhere else completely.]

Yeah, I kind of got that. [It certainly wasn't anything like his home.] How often do these Shifts happen?

[~~Together and in a tree!~~]

These Shifts happen once or twice a cycle, depending on the kind of mood our benefactors are in. They're usually harmless and annoying.

[He shrugged nonchalantly. Maybe he was getting too used to this place.]

The bakery's up ahead. Shall we..?

[~~Good thing Steve is an excellent climber.~~]

A cycle...Like the lunar cycle?

[He spots the bakery after Lupin mentions it and nods. Well, here goes nothing.]

No, not quite. Every two months we get a new batch of people coming in. Some people call that a cycle around here, since it's too short a frame to be called a season.

[He stops at the door and glances at the man.]

After you? [Because he's not taking a chance on ending up in a closet with a complete stranger.]

So this cycle has just begun then.

[Steve glances between him and the door a bit nervously. Not that he'd want to end up squished in a closet with anyone either.]

Alright. [After a moment's hesitation he steps through the door...and into the bakery.]
