First Day

[Once she figured out the bare bones of what was going on - and that it wasn't affecting her directly - Mia got to the clinic as fast as she could. If the patients in there started waking up with nothing there could be trouble.

Trouble, it seems, has already escaped her room by the time Mia gets there. Empty bed, and no book and no concerning little card either.

Time to spend some time tracking her down. Adele's was one of the last rooms she checked; hopefully she can catch up with her somewhere in the village.]

[Adele had made a note, somewhere, the day before that she was sedating herself for the evening to sleep. Signed it off all neat and official- but that still left her as a patient for the night and required her to sign out come morning. Without any memory of this the amnesiac surgeon takes a break in her wandering at the fountain, flipping through her notes and growing more and more disturbed by the moment.]

[Of course Mia missed the note. Didn't check, is more like it; after enough odd instances of amnesia, even she is forgetting some things. She's about to give up the search and check in with the other clinic when she finally spots her intended target. By the fountain, looking troubled.

Well, it's a start. Mia heads over.]

Hello.

[Adele's head snaps up, shoulders curling inward at the greeting. She doesn't know why she's so tense and skittish just that she...well. Is. But it's just a woman, a kind enough looking one with very blue hair.

Now that is odd.]

I work at the clinic you left this morning, and I just wanted to make sure everything is all right.

I'm...a little lost and a lot forgetful, but otherwise well.

You, and just about everyone else I've talked to so far. [Maybe this helpless smile can lift both of their spirits.] Are you looking for someone or somewhere specific? Perhaps I can help you find them.

So it is a widespread ordeal?

[Adele sags where she sits, huffing a faint laugh. Light and relieved. Perhaps she wasn't insane, if a large portion of this place remembered nothing. They're simply handling it with far more grace than she.]

I'm looking for two people. My husband, Clint, and a goddess named Saori?

Oh yes. You aren't alone at all. I know it is overwhelming and...well, it may get worse before it gets better.

[Clint. Saori. She's certain she has heard both of those names before - "Clint" more recently, in conjunction with a very bloody incident - but searching her memory doesn't turn up anything more than that.]

I don't think I know either of them personally. [She doesn't think Adele is married to him either, but who is she to judge for sure?] ...It is most likely that Clint is...at home. Wherever home is. Did it tell you?

[It felt like a familiar sentiment. Was she a pessimist? A cynic? Did she have reason to be? Not knowing anything made the simple act of conversation frustrating.]

I'm afraid you may be right.

[Afraid in general, but of that in particular. How much worse could it get?]

I...no. It didn't. I don't know where I, we, might live.

Even if I am, it is guaranteed to get better eventually. [Mia is an optimist almost through and through.] I can still try to help you find it. There should be some kind of list that will help at the Welcome Center.

Ah, before we do that, may I see your arm for a moment? [Interesting things have already come up with "memory" for everyone Mia has spoken with. She still wants to make sure Adele didn't hurt herself.]

If it doesn't, I don't think anyone here will remember enough to know for certain.

[She does want to believe it'll get better, though. That this will pass, that everyone will remember and life will go on as it should. Even if she has no idea whatsoever what life as it should ought to be.] That would help a great deal-

Mm?

[Oh. Right. The IV. Adele extends her arm for Mia's inspection- she had tried to be as careful as possible to remove the needle but she had been mildly disoriented at the time.]

[For the sake of everyone's sanity that is usually how it works. Mia studies her arm and thinks that some kind of memory must have kicked in after all, because it could be a lot worse.

Still. One small burst of healing should take care of it once and for all, with no more need to dwell on it. For Adele's sake Mia calls on Nala instead of using her own (invisible) spells; this way she can see that something is happening.]

That should do it.

...what is that?

[She can see...something happening with her arm. It feels warm. Pleasant. The mild bruising fades and there's no reason for it and this makes no sense whatsoever. She stares down at where that little mark had been then back up to the woman.]

...how did you do that?

It's healing magic. I learned to do it while living here. There is a chance you did, too [and she could curse herself for not knowing off the top of her head right now, she should know] but I wouldn't try it while you don't remember anything.

Do you want to see if we can find that housing list?

Magic?

[She's walking around with no memory and a pair of wings on her back. Magic is not that strange. AT the same time part of her balks, part is terribly curious, and the rest is just confused. She'll deal with that later, after she finds Clint.]

I think- yes. That would be a good place to start.

[Mia stands, offering Adele a hand in case she needs help rising. She looks worn already and it isn't that late in the morning.]

It's this way.

[She'll need the help. Anxiety is exhausting and she hasn't had any coffee this morning. Though why that's important she can't say. But it is important.]

Lead on. I shall follow.

[The less fortunate thing about using Nala for healing is that Mia didn't get a sense of how Adele is doing in general. What she observes must be enough.]

You are welcome to lean on me for support if you feel you need it. [It's not likely anyone else in the village will be in a state to comment.]

I...I think I can manage well enough. It's more mental exhaustion than anything else, really.

[She straightens her shoulders and manages a thin smile. It's not entirely sincere but it looks better than sagging with every step. And it's important to look like you're fine. Isn't it?]

[Whatever it is, Mia hasn't forgotten that Adele was at the very least an overnight patient. There might be more going on than either of them realize. She sticks close.]

[The smile widens and brightens a bit. Answers are always wonderful, especially when all you have is questions.]

This place...the wings. The cards. Is this normal or is there something greater at work, here?

[None of this is "normal" and yet...some parts are less normal than others.]

Nobody had cards like that until this morning. Yesterday you all had your memories. The wings are a part of living here, and so you might call that normal.

I don't think I'm supposed to have wings, but if they're part of living in this place then...[She shook her head.]

I hope this doesn't last. Not remembering is becoming frustrating.

If it is anything like every other time unusual and unwarranted things happen, it should only last about a week. So far no one appears to be suffering memory loss due to medical reasons. [Wouldn't that be terrible.]

And, yes. There is something greater at work here.
