Summary: Rei is getting a surprise birthday party!

Helios had done all he could to make sure Rei was out long enough from the shrine to setup for what was indeed her birthday. With some help from her friends and close acquaintances Helios had decorated the shrine in some lights and lanterns for the occasion. It was nothing too outrageous because he knew Rei was a more subtle person, so the decorations are few but meaningful.

Birthdays are good for starting fresh, and spring is a time for letting go of the past and starting anew. The lanterns symbolize that but also help with the festivities. Even if its a small affair Helios puts a lot of hard work into it because of how helpful Rei has been these past few weeks. So to help ease out of the terrible feelings since the draft and to celebrate the birthday of a good friend Helios will invite whoever is close to the young woman.


((ooc; For the sake of not hurting my hands trying to juggle both a post and a log I'm just going to handwave Helios putting up the announcement over the journals to help set things up for Rei's party. If you're character is a close acquaintance/friend of Rei's they're more than welcome to stop by!))

[Once people begin to arrive, Max settles down with a drink and some food. He's quite happy, enjoying himself and willing to chat with anyone who approaches him.]

[At some point in this celebration, Ai found herself taking the adjacent spot next to Max right after talking with Rei some beforehand. She was mirthful as well, having fun and finding herself at ease, pleasantly relaxed in the presence of the other guests. She definitely liked being here.

As she drank her juice, her eyes couldn't help but take notice of some good-looking crackers nearby that she wanted to take a taste of.]

Excuse me, could you pass me that plate? [She spoke to the man next to her, her hand pointing towards her desired item, a little out of reach for her to grab.]

[Everyone seemed to be having a good time, and that was the important thing, he supposed. It was good to see people smiling again, falling into easy conversation with each other.]

Uh, sure!

[He grabs the plate and passes it over to the girl.]

Having fun?

[Rei takes a few minutes to slip away from people and go and have a seat with Max, gingerly taking a seat next to him and giving him a cheerful look]

Are you enjoying yourself, Max?

[He smiles when he sees the birthday girl, giving a little nod.]

I am. Shouldn't I be asking you that question, Rei? Happy Birthday.

[ Helios, after making sure everything is proper and in order, will come and take a seat next to Max with his own plate of food. There's a very warm, happy, smile on his face as he sits next to the other man. ]

Everything came out quite good, don't you think? Rei looks happy at least.

[Max lights up when Helios comes to sit next to him, fingers brushing against his hand for a moment when he sits down.]

It's perfect. You're good at this party organising stuff. And yeah, she looks really happy.

[Well. Okay. So Ami kept her occupied all day, which she sort of expected. But what she didn't expect was for anyone to actually set up a surprise party. Let alone Helios. Which meant that she was actually quite surprised. She's glad that it's not a big thing, too. It's nice, really and she can't help but find herself reflecting on things.

She's just turned seventeen and she's probably eating cake and looking a good bit happier than she usually does.]

Were you really surprised? [Ami can't resist the question as she catches Rei for a few moments during the party. Of course Rei has to mingle with all the guests, but Ami's fiercely determined to see her, too.]

No one told you or anything like that, right?

I was. I didn't expect you to do something like this.

[Rei always makes time for Ami. She even manages a small, genuine smile.]

I had no idea this was going to happen, Ami-chan.

[As for Ai, she was also glad to be at this party, finding herself having a good deal of fun too, enjoying the quieter atmosphere of having only a few people around at the shrine. She wasn't a fan of big crowds either, and whenever the time came for her to celebrate her own birthday, she would ideally want it to be a small gathering like this.

It was the first celebration she had the pleasure to attend after she had arrived in Luceti, and it was a nice opportunity for her to just enjoy herself fully without having any heavier thoughts on her mind.

She approached Rei with a soft smile on her face, glad to find that she was free at the moment, for the birthday girl had been busy talking to other guests before, as it was expected.]

Now you are as old as I am. [The girl let out a soft chuckle as she said it, one of her hands holding onto a glass of apple juice that she had gotten for herself.] How does it feel, Hino-san?

[She was rather glad to have Ai's company at the party. She hadn't really expected it at all, but Helios seemed to have invited everyone she liked even just a little bit. And the girl was intelligent and good company. When her new friend approached, Rei was ready with a smile and a polite bow.]

Hah, I think it feels much the same, honestly. I don't think I'm any wiser or smarter. Not yet, anyway.

[ The party seemed to be a success, and Serenity couldn't help the smile on her face. Rei had truly made friends with some very wonderful people, and Serenity didn't think she could be any happier. It was something truly beautiful. ]

Feeling old, yet? [ Her tone is mild, and playful: teasing. ]

[Where there is cake, Tsuzuki is soon to follow. Birthday parties are something that he personally thinks should be more popular in town - the only thing worse than being away from home is to have birthdays and be reminded about how alone you are. Quiet celebrations like Rei's are so much better.]

[Eyes shining with mirth, he walks over to her side.]

[ Helios will definitely make his way over towards Rei after people have gotten settled and the party is in full swing. He'll stop by later on after most people have congratulated her. He'll walk up to her with a bright smile. ]

Happy birthday Rei. Are you enjoying yourself? I figured you might want something smaller and-and a bit less crowded.

[ Happy birthday, Rei! Lirael... is not entirely sure how to go about this, but birthdays are sort of important to Lirael on a personal level so she's really going to make an effort to not have her lack of social skills kill the mood or anything. ]

[ Awkwardly standing is a go. Should there be hugging? ]

I didn't know what to get you as a gift so I thought maybe we could go out sometime together and you could just... pick something you like.

[Kari's always a little awkward when it comes to big gatherings like these, especially when she's forced to be herself instead of Hoshikyo. Perhaps more so in this instance, since she hasn't really gone out as herself all that often since the draft -- the injuries she got didn't bother her as much when she was transformed, after all. This was practically her first time out as herself. And while it might be a little warmer today than it has been, she's still wearing long sleeves.]

[But she wasn't about to just blow off Rei's birthday! Though she'll still wait until she has a moment to talk to Rei alone before she really makes an attempt to talk to her. It was easier than trying to fight for conversation between making small-talk with people she didn't know.]

[Despite the fact that he interacted with soldiers and the wealthy with the same cool headed confidence and had attended many meetings and ceremonies, Cliff couldn't remember the last time that he was invited to an informal birthday party. It was just so...normal.

Not that it was bad. It was only since coming to Luceti that Cliff realized that, sometimes, he did miss the quiet and mundane.

He didn't take a seat immediately, but preferred to wander the grounds with a drink in hand. It was soda-- what kind of guy did people think he was?

He's open to any and all conversation that comes his way.]

[Well, whenever Rei manages to break away from conversations with schoolgirls and dinosaurs...she'll wander over to Cliff with a bit of plum wine in a small cup, well diluted. It's her birthday, and that was a bit of a tradition at home.]

Good evening, Cliff-san.

[ Well here's an unfamiliar face, Helios has definitely seen you around before Cliff but he's never actually talked to the other man. He'll make his way over with his own cup of soda and he'll give a cordial smile and wave. ]

Ah! Hello. You're a friend of Rei I take it? My name is Helios at the pleasure to meet you.

[Souji had seen the invitation on the journal and knew he had to go. He'd never really been to a birthday party before and it was for a budding friendship, so why not go? He'd been on the way to the shop to find her a present when he sneezed. He was really starting to hate sneezes.

Unable to find her a gift in his present state, he waited for the time to come and then headed to the shrine. Hopefully Rei didn't mind that a dinosaur - more accurately a velociraptor with bits of glitter still stuck to it - was making its way through the shrine and into the party after some trouble.

Doors suck, by the way.]

[And it just so happened that Ai was next to the door when she suddenly froze at the sight of what looked like an actual dinosaur going through the door, after having spent a good deal of time merely trying to do so. Her eyes immediately began glancing around the inside of the shrine in a bit of a panic, checking to see if anybody else was as surprised about the creature's appearance.

She soon found herself facing it, however, thinking that perhaps she should have moved a bit further away. Maybe it was the knowledge that this was Luceti, a place of talking ponies, orcs, spirits and whatnot, that made her stay where she was. She really was getting used to this, wasn't she?

The girl gulped a bit, looking at the creature straight in the eyes with a lingering hint of a worried expression on her face as she spoke.]

Um... Were we expecting a dinosaur guest?... [If they were, she wasn't informed of it.]

[Well. Rei doesn't mind a dinosaur at all. She wanders over with a curious look in her eye, though. It's not the strangest thing she's seen, and it's not trying to eat anyone. It even seems like it wants to be there, as if it was invited.

And...it has glitter on it. Which means that all signs point to...Souji?]

...Souji-san?

[Cliff barely noticed the clingy glitter at this point. It had stubbornly stuck to every nook and hard to reach corner in his apartment since Souji's visit the other day, refusing to budge or be cleaned with anything less than a vacuum hose placed directly on top of it. He had given up on the battle for now, and gave the sparkles no further thought until he saw a velociraptor in the shrine.

He stopped and stared for a second as the pieces clicked together before he approached and patted Souji on the back in comradely solidarity.]

They really can't leave you alone, can they?
