Summary: Helios and Saori decided to host a party with food, dancing, and friends to mark the solstice, the birthday of a friend, and several other personal things. Residents volunteered to help get it together, and now all the work is done so it's time to set aside their troubles and enjoy summer!
Rating: PG to PG-13 at most (For language most likely)


It'd taken a week, getting everything together, but with everyone pitching in they'd managed it. Food, drinks, decorations, and all the trappings of a fine summer party. An area had been roped off for dancing and music, umbrella'd tables had been procured for meals and relaxing in the shade, and they'd even set up a piano for Fredric to perform with. A gentle breeze kept the lakeshore cool and mosquito free, and by noon everything appeared to be ready for the midsummer party.

The Longest Day, Helios' boyfriend's birthday, and Saori's ascension day had all conveniently coincided, so no matter what you're here to celebrate, enjoy yourselves and have fun! Toss your character anywhere, and remember that all important rule. As a note, teleport sigils to the other party were set up by Helios so feel free to pop between the two. Go ahead and start new top-level comments if you like too, these are just generic ones!

Set up!

[ Helios is gonna be working with everyone and anyone to setup the solstice party. He'll be bring in lots of authentic foods from a variety of cultures for everyone to eat. Vegetarian dishes for the ponies and other sorts of things for everyone else. The table where the food is laid out seems expansive and long, but Helios is just brightly smiling as he makes his rounds around the party site. ]

[Belle is helping to set up some of the decorations when she passes the table of food that Helios is setting up.]

There's so many foods I don't recognize. Did you make all of this yourself?

[Saori's worked pretty tirelessly getting all of this set up. The food she's brought is a wide variety of snacks, meal-items, and desserts from all over the Earth. Japanese cooking, American cooking, Indian and Middle Eastern as well. She's also quite busy putting up last minute decorations and setting up other things as well, checking and doublechecking everything.]

Chouji brings along some food too. He doesn't know the preferences of anyone else involved in the party, but he knows Saori's well enough to be fairly certain that his offering will be welcome. He grins in her direction and leaves several plates of omurice on the table. Rice wrapped in eggs, a combination of her two favorites.

[True to his word, Kouki showed up and help with the party's set up. The food he brought along are mostly simple dishes (primarily Japanese, but there's a one or two non-Japanese ones), but they're no less delicious.

After setting the food down, he'd be going around and help out with the decorations, as long he can reach it.

Either way, a young man with black wings and a pair of very distinctive headphones--it almost looks like he have cat ears--is helping out.]

[ Ororo doesn't know who Max Woodville is. But she's not about to show up to a birthday party empty-handed.

So here's Ororo, setting down a potted bonsai tree on the present table! There's a simple, elegant bow fixed to the pot. And since it's looking a little thirsty, she conjures a tiny raincloud to give it a quick little shower. ]

... There. I hope you will be happy with your new owner, little one.

[ ... Is she talking to a plant? Yes, she's talking to a plant. ]

Dancing, Music, all that sort of thing!

[There's quite a variety of music to be had, from Fredric's classical piano pieces to a small sound system cobbled together from various sources, some of which may or may not be enchanted. The music errs on the side of classy rather than loud though, ranging from folk tunes from around the world to swing music. Makie, Saori, and some other musicians also likely perform pieces to liven up things.

And of course, there's dancing.]

[ So Helios can get behind the swing music when that starts up. He hasn't swing danced in a very longtime but his moves and form are still decent enough that he's not fumbling too much with the music. If anyone needs a partner Helios will be more than obliged to help people learn. He's enjoying himself so old phobias be damned, he is happy and he is going to dance. ]

[Dance partner, you say? Max sidles up to Helios when the music gets started and he sees his boyfriend dancing. It isn't the kind that he's familiar with, but he is always happy to stand and sway if that's all he can manage.]

You can dance. I didn't know you could dance.

[Loki shows up for a little bit, not necessarily to be polite, but because he's always pleased to go places he thinks he will not be wanted. He'll do a bit of dancing if any of the music has enough drums in it for him to feel the vibrations, but otherwise he'll just have something to drink and schmooze his way around. He can survive without dancing for now; he'll have plenty of fun later.]

[Saori pointedly ignores Loki's presence unless he approaches her. Why he's here, she doesn't know and she doesn't much care. It's an ascension day for her, and a day for friends and companions, not for dealing with a creature like him.]

Kitten listens with interest to the different types of music, noting the ways it varies from songs in her own world. She watches Helios dance as well, though that holds slightly less interest for her simply because Kitten is used to operating in musical terms, not in dance terms. Her own language of chirps, whistles, and clicks is more musical than many languages inherently are.

She pushes over a plate of food, settles in with her series of snacks, and pays special attention to all of her housemates. Each of them receives a whistle of appreciation after their performance, and a visit from a two and a half foot tall dragon once the stage has been handed off to its next occupant.

[Hungry? Well there are several tables set up with all sorts of dishes from all over Luceti. Have a bite, catch a friend, have a conversation!]

[Well, she took a lot of time preparing food, so Saori isn't going to skip out on eating it. Abandoning her usually simple diet, she's got a full plate in front of her and two more that've been emptied already. She'll welcome conversation, and won't hesitate to offer suggestions on what to try.]

A Cloud-Show

[Midway through the afternoon, Saori starts up a little bit of entertainment to go along with the music and socializing. Clouds begin to darken around the gathering, shifting and changing into various shapes and sizes. Animals great and small, fish, birds, alien-like creatures, and various shapes and patterns form in the sky. People seated near Saori can hear here tell a few folk tales, with the clouds acting as pictures to depict scenes. Lightning ripples along the skyline as well, but never strikes, instead providing illumination within the clouds.

Come around and watch, maybe catch a story! Or when it's all over, come bring a sweaty Saori something to drink. This is pretty draining!]

[ Ororo flies into the party a little bit late - there were just so many things to do today, goodness - but considering Saori invited her personally, there was no way she wouldn't show up.

To her delight, she makes it just in time for the cloud show to start! So she finds a relatively quiet spot to watch and feel the clouds shift and change. This was nice. It was tempting to fly up there and be part of the show herself, but for now, this was nice. ]

I don't mind a story!

[A young demon king is watching the cloud show with a smile, his eyes picking out the familiar shapes and having a bit of fun guessing what shapes the clouds formed.

After a while, he walks over to where people are sitting down and listening to some tales.]

[ Lirael is sitting a little off to the side, too far away to hear any of the stories but making up her own in her head as she watches the clouds move with her arms wrapped around her knees.

She's not really a party person, and this quiet moment is a welcome one for her as the beauty of the display in the sky brings a soft smile to her lips.

She searches the cloud patterns for things to remind her of home. Charter marks, bells, and perhaps she's even hoping to see something that might look a little bit like Dog, her best friend and companion.

She is happier in Luceti than she ever was back in the Old Kingdom, but sometimes she still gets homesick, and she's feeling a little nostalgic right now. ]

[Clint shows up a little late, later in the afternoon just as the cloud show is getting started. Clouds are kind of a constant thing. No matter where you go, there they are, and he'd always liked freaking out some of the helicarrier staff by sitting near the edge of the thing to watch some of them.

But this, this takes it to a whole new level.

He sidles up to Saori, sliding an arm around her shoulders for a moment, a quick hug.]

Now that's something beautiful.

Clean up!

[Well it's getting on towards night, so it's time to do a little cleaning up. Anyone who stays will definitely get a thank you!]

[With the other party going on, one Saori would just as soon avoid for a great number of reasons, she remains to clean up after the days festivities. It'd been a pleasant one, a very nice party indeed and one that left her feeling just a bit wistful. It wasn't quite the same as an ascension celebration at home, but it'd certainly kept her mind off her recent troubles. But there was work to do.

So, trash-bag in hand she begins the mundane task of picking up things and getting everything cleaned up for the trip home. What a day...]

[Ami sees Saori starting to clean up, and heads that way right away. She hasn't made a strong presence of herself at the party - she never does - but she volunteers to pitch in.]

[Any excuse for a party is a good one, and Solstice and Midsummer are better than most. Besides, how can he refuse a request from Helios to show up? Not that he wouldn't have shown up anyway probably. He arrives fairly early to help set up, bearing a large tub of the cakes that had gone down well at the cultural fair, and another bowl of fresh ripe strawberries, the first of the year. At least, he assumed they were. They didn't exactly give dates here.

Max can be found around the party, listening to music and joining in some dancing and greeting people who show up.]
