Who: Gai, Elizabeth, and all invited (and possibly some uninvited) guests
What: A wedding!
When: Just before sunset on June 30th
Where: The beach
Summary: Finally, after much planning, pre-wedding jitters, and ice cream consumed, this is it. The big day. Gai and Elizabeth are finally getting married. (Never mind the fact they've been technically married since the draft... shhhh.)
Rating: Keep it G, people, this is a public venue.

[The ocean has returned, the day is clear and sunny, and wedding fever is back in the air.]

[This time the location is the beach, and between the setting sun, the waves, and the decor there is no lack of ambiance. little battery-powered votives in paper lanters litter the space, and larger lanterns line a yellow petal aisle that leads up to a decorative arch with a few chairs. Over to the side is the reception set up, which looks like it can accommodate more guests than the ceremony. Frames draped with chiffon and lit with little electric light strings indicate both food and bar/drink areas, and similar setups surround both small and large tables for seating, lit both with electric lights and votives in varying glass jars. And of course, there’s music and an open floor for dancing.]

((OOC: Close CR/specifically invited friends are welcome at the ceremony, but the party is definitely for anyone who wants to come see the spectacle or welcome back the ocean! ♥ ))

[Elizabeth, predictably, lets out a mock-offended sound and smacks Gai's shoulder.] Gai! I didn't know you were so disappointed by my natural shape.

Who said anything about that?

[He's fighting to keep a straight face, difficult though it may be.]

I was referring to that monstrosity otherwise known as a corset.

Ohh... [Elizabeth has to fight to keep a straight face too.]

Well, I did bring up the possibility with my dressmakers, but they said a 'Merry Widow' was a better idea.

[Softer:] I did promise that I wouldn't wear it again if you got it off of me. I'm sticking to that.

I'm definitely not going to ask if that name has any significance to it unless it's the ironic kind. I don't want to hear that it's named that because it's even harder to get off than a corset.

[He's still smiling, though.]

[Elizabeth laughs.] Well it was harder for me to get on, if that gives you any idea. There are quite a few hooks on it.

But it did give me quite a... [She raises her eyebrows and looks down at her chest with just her eyes.] Lift.

So I noticed.

[And, because he can't really help it when Elizabeth is looking there herself, he lets his own eyes drift down to her chest. At least he is still behaving himself and not touching!]

Oh so that's what you noticed when I appeared at the end of the aisle.

[She pokes Gai's chin up, trying to pass it off as a cutesy touch but Elizabeth knows exactly where Gai's looking.]

Hey, cut me some slack. I couldn't even see them from up at the altar.

[Chuckling, he allows her to tip his head back up and direct his gaze to her face rather than her chest.]

Oh so you were trying. No wonder you looked so nervous when Law asked if anyone had any objections.

[There is one very simple way to put an end to this argument, and that would be by leaning down to kiss Elizabeth.

And hey, they're married now, so no one can possibly object to that action.]

[True enough, and it's also a fantastic way to end the argument because Elizabeth literally has no objections to it.]

[But she does hold it for only a couple moments, in the interest of sparing Booker from too many drinks.] You want to know what I was thinking when I saw you across the aisle?

[Gai allows her to pull away, likely thinking something along the same lines that she is. Booker is around, and who knows how many drinks he's had already (or will be consuming after this)? He's not about to help drag his father-in-law home from his own wedding.]

What were you thinking?

'I hope I don't drag my dress through a candle-- because I literally can't take my eyes off of him, even to watch where I'm walking.'

[She smiles and lays her head against his chest again.]

That feeling was definitely mutual.

[He lets his arms settle around her waist to tug her just that much closer as they sway to the music.]

Although my thoughts didn't involve the part about the candle.

Or a dress, I hope. You're wearing a suit today, dear. [She giggles and sways a little harder, just to be playful, and drapes her arms behind his neck.]

It wasn't only that you looked more handsome than I ever remembered, though. I was scared, a few days ago, that I'd run into a new chapter in my life without really thinking about how it was going to change my life. But when I saw you waiting for me at the end of the aisle, I didn't care if things would change. I felt like I was walking towards a future where I would wake up happy every day, next to someone who wasn't afraid of me. I spent months staring at people who were afraid of me, and I thought, for a long time, that that would be the rest of my life.

[Grinning right back, Gai leans his head down until his nose bumps against hers, letting them rub together for a brief moment.]

If you wanted to see me in a dress, all you had to do was ask.

[A laugh, but it quickly quiets into something more sober and loving.]

I didn't even think I had a future, much less one like this. This is already more than I could ever have asked for. I've never been afraid of change before, and I'm not about to start now. Not as long as it's the two of us. I'm pretty sure I can face down anything as long as I know I have you by my side.

[She smiles, looking maybe a little damp at the eyes, and nods.] I'll be right here. As long as you want me, and even when you don't, I'll be right here.

I'll always want you right here.

[And there's no bravado, no hint of anything other than complete and total honesty in both his voice and his expression.]

[Elizabeth pulls back a little to fix Gai with a disbelieving look.]

I'll remind you of that the next time we're both called on a draft.

When you put it that way...

[But he's smiling as he says it to show that he doesn't really mean that. As much as he might want to always protect her, he isn't so foolish to think that she's going to just sit back and let him do so.]

When I put it that way, at least you're able to appreciate both sides of it. [They both love each other, they both don't want harm to come to the other, Elizabeth knows that much about both herself and Gai.]

I wouldn't want you in danger either, I'd go somewhere in your stead too. Only because I love you.

In other words, we're both completely stubborn and hopeless. I can see why we decided to get married.

[The fact that they love each other and yet respect each other's free will at the same time is, in truth, a very large reason of what attracts Gai to Elizabeth in the first place.]

[It's a pretty blunt description, but the accuracy of the statement makes Elizabeth laugh only because it's true.]

I had other reasons, too. [She looks at Gai, her expression shifting into something a little coy, a little casual.] And speaking of one of those reasons... when do you suppose it's alright for us to sail away?

[Seeing that shift, Gai's eyebrows lift slightly before his own smile slides into a decidedly less innocent end of the spectrum. Oh, he knows exactly what she's thinking, and he likes it.]

As soon as everyone finally gets tired of congratulating us and decides to go home.

[She groans and bumps noses with Gai again.] That could be hours from now.
