DRAFT - The Battle of Vaskoth

On the 25th, Lucetians are ushered in to join an already growing army to repel the Cultists.

On the 26th, strange symptoms are reported. The first Runners appear and by nightfall, the hospital is lost.

On the 27th, the cultist horde is completely lost to the virus. They send no more reinforcements.

On the 28th, the situation is grim and an evacuation is called. But the battle is not over.

Notes: There will be two NPC threads. One for Specialist Davis and another for Carol.

[Aang arrives with Roku, and they try to stick together for the most part during the conflict aside from some odd moments of separation. His staff and tonfas have been left behind, but he procures a new pair of tonfas from the local armory. In battle, Aang primarily uses his bending but in a non-lethal style, primarily working to protect his comrades and any nearby innocents, while using bending to incapacitate enemies to the best that he can. He will also use his bending to help gather supplies during downtime; even without his glider, he can produce an air scooter to get around the enclosure relatively quickly.

Things become more complicated on the following days, when the zombie-like symptoms begin to appear. Aang is instantly horrified and will initially freeze up against these foes, so he will need a helping hand to deal with them - especially when he starts meeting with ones he knows. He will be faced with difficult decisions as to how to deal his friends who have been infected, and he will try to do everything he can to protect them. And as time goes on, he will become more and more used to battling them and trying to incapacitate them with his bending. However, this still takes a heavy toll on his psyche, and he will get little sleep for the rest of his time on the draft due to a combination of paranoia and trauma-induced nightmares.

The last two days contain significant events for Aang. On the 27th, Aang will have to deal with the infected Moro and play a part in holding her down so that she can be put down, while avoiding any more direct parts of the execution. And by the 28th, he will be both physically and psychologically exhausted from everything he's been through. He will keep trying to fight on in spite of the evacuation order in hopes of helping his infected friends and trying to be the Avatar, but his overall fatigue will cause him to make nearly fatal mistakes. More helping hands would be... helpful. Shikamaru and/or other allies will need to talk him into evacuating.]

26th

[It's kind of difficult to know when exactly the next day had arrive with how it was always nighttime in this place, but it's safe to assume it probably was after several hours of rest. Roku and Aang had gone out to do a bit of scouting, mostly helping those who need to be taken to the hospital and getting supplies. He can only hope they won't run into too many enemies today. Yesterday's experience was...rough, to put it one way. He's never had to fight as hard as he had to yesterday, where you could DIE if you mess up. The realization didn't hit him until halfway through the day, when the enemies were more abundant. It's gotten him a little uneasy about what he had just gotten himself into.

He tries to hide his uneasiness the best he can as the draft continues, although he can't help being jumpy at the faintest of sounds.]

Did you hear that?

26th

[It was pretty rough to be back on the battlefield again - and being with Roku was both tough and weirdly surreal. He had adjusted to living with his former life, but now here they were physically working together on a battlefield as two Avatars, a sheer impossibility back home. It was comforting, too, in a way. He remembered how uneasy he was in the last draft with how accustomed Sokka and Katara had been to... finishing enemies. With Roku, they had trouble in battle, but at least he was with someone who was just as unwilling to kill.

Aang looked around as Roku addressed him.]

Hear what?

[He looks around, at where he thought he heard something. A frown]

...Maybe it was nothing. I'm surprised we haven't run into anything yet.

Day One

[Moro was a natural on the battle field, if only because she was so greatly swift and powerful. She was rarely in one spot to rest, and not one easily stopped to talk to.

But Aang would find a brief moment, where he was fighting against enemy troops, to meet her again. Very suddenly, she dropped amidst the soldiers, tearing into them violently and sending the cowards amongst them running.

Though she could keep moving, avoiding the stabbing from spears or swords, she remains and bites harshly at the soldiers, blatantly and clearly fighting to take their attention off of Aang.]

Day One

[Her swiftness was so great that it helped Aang to doubt she was even there. He thought he saw her name on the draft list. But he realized he must have been mistaken; there must be some other dude or dudette names Moro in the enclosure. It was too hard to imagine the giant wolf as part of an army.

But here she was, the living proof, right in front of him, tearing into the enemies whom had ambushed him. He winced and looked away from the violent scene, initially, but for the soldiers that were still alive and being distracted from her, he soon seized the opportunity to begin using Earthbending to trap them in place. And in the midst of his attempts to do so, he took a moment to call out.]

T-thanks, Moro!

[biteoffherhead]

[Though he was clearly not intending to kill them, Moro was never so merciful - she crunched her jaws on them, or crushed them under her paws, leaving no survivors.]

Too merciful, for one who is supposed to walk with spirits!

27th! Let me know if this is okay

[Nami is more than a little unnerved by this point, having had the misfortune to be at the hospital with Vivi at the point it began to get overtaken. They're safer now, back among friends, and she's sticking close to them for her own peace of mind.

When she catches sight of Aang on the battlefield, frozen in horror for a brief moment before he deals with the enemy at hand, she winces. This isn't the sort of place she'd wish on him-- she's just glad he did manage to keep Ikki home...

...and it would only be a moment's sympathy if she didn't catch sight of the runners sprinting up behind him to catch him off guard.]

Aang!

[Without thinking, she takes off in an attempt to intercept.]

27th! How about this is absolutely okay!

[Aang is petrified, horrified by this latest foe. He'll never get used to enemies like this. But at least it wasn't a friend's face this time. After his moment of freezing up, he managed to kick into gear and used some earthbending to trip the enemy up. He was so disoriented, he could not tell the runners were coming.

But he did near Nami's voice and looked towards her immediately in concern.]

Nami?

27th! Awesome!

[Mental note to self. When getting the Avatar's attention, it might be better next time to yell this first:]

Behind you! [Though she's rocketing past him to smack the closest one back with her staff, sending it tumbling backward. For someone who looks so weak, she has an awful lot of arm strength.]

28th!

[Even if Aang's not all there right now, he's definitely a helpful distraction. As a cultist attempts to charge toward him, a certain Robin drops down from a tree and knocks the guy right down.]

'Scuse me, 'scuse me, Boy Wonder coming through! [There's something about his tone that's a little off, somehow, but otherwise, it seems like the same old Robin #2.] Hanging in there, Aang?

28th!

[He had been almost reaching a calm in this battle - at least he was able to continue out-maneuvering the cultist attacks. But seeing the Robin costume initially puts him in a state of shock.]

The other one. [He sees that expression, Aang! He actually feels kind of bad, he didn't mean to spook him.] You don't look so good.

Early into the 27th?

[Because we should set up things for the next day.

It doesn't take a genius to work out that this battle has gone to hell. It's easy to abandon an objective that isn't your own, when you didn't have a choice in being involved. He can't blame people for that, but it's fueling the chaos.

Case in point: some of the citizens of Vaskoth itself. Not everyone is military, and many of the civilians have never seen a draft until now, some stubbornly choosing to stick it out in their own homes. It's the sound of screams and cracking wood that draw Shikamaru over.]

Early into the 27th! (feel free to adjust if I'm misreading the scenario)

[And who should be a mist of this chaos but Aang, who is desperately trying to clear a Vaskothian family out of their home-]

Please! You have to listen to me!

[-while infected cultists begin smashing against the walls. He's trying his best to keep everything boarded up, but it won't hold for long. He starts to tense in fear, as he remembered what those infected people were like. But he tries to stray strong, for the family.]

28 if it's cool

[They feel they've made some kind of strange progress; Mia has a rare break, and time to struggle with the knowledge of a possible evacuation. Obviously, she wants everyone to go - to be safe, to get away from here where they might be sick.

However, she will not go herself. It makes her feel like a hypocrite.

Running in to an exhausted Aang is a surprise, and at first she doesn't realize how tired he is. When his opponent goes for a fatal strike and she actually fears it might hit, though, she raises a wall of ice between them.]

28 = cool

[He could have Earthbended his own barrier. By all counts, he should have been able to. But these days left him feeling so weak and unsure that he couldn't think so do so in time. He looks around in a panic to see where it came from.]

Mia... Thanks! [She's still herself.]

[Zelos has been fighting off a lot of runners. They're not the easiest things to get rid of but Zelos thought of his own tactic to get rid of them, by running around to attract more of them and then finally landing one final blow. He pulled out his sword and started swinging at some that were in Aang's general area, giving him that big grin of his.]

[He was trying hard to stay on his feet and - that sure is a guy with long, very red hair. He was taken aback somewhat by the whole, killing-ness of his fighting, while trying his best to stay in the game by fending off nearby runners.]

Me? I- I'm fine.

26th

Thunder Fang, Linda!

[And so Linda complies with this. It's still a cultist fight, not a runner, and not yet infected. Her fangs don't pierce the skin, but the close proximity of the rodent biting the arm of that cultist allows the electricity from her (all 8000 volts of it) to run through and fry them from the inside.

Whether this is just him fighting with a unit and Aang coming upon that or him and one or two people coming upon Aang I will leave you to decide. Either way he snaps his fingers and Linda presses the second part of the Attack- Volt Switch. She electric-tackles into the next cultist before zooming back to behind Masami as a "repel" from the impact. And he goes in swinging next]

26th

[It was indeed Masaomi, accompanied by some figures he hadn't met but seemed to be allies of some kind. Their timing was great - Aang wasn't sure how much longer her could hold out against these Cultists while he was separated from Roku.

But still. Seeing that. Linda the adorable actually practicing the seemingly fatal maneuver on that one Cultist, complete with electricity. It roots him in place for the moment, staring as he remembers the feel of overwhelming electricity, numbing every nerve at once, shocking him into sleep.

And a Cultist, armed with a rusty axe, notices this stillness and advances forth to place a blow on the teen monk.]

28th (tag when you're ready)

[The evacuation has been called... among other things. Loki goes looking for Aang.

If there are things to kill along the way, more the better.]

[There are things that are killable. Just not by Aang's hand. He's actually busy pushing back some shamblers not far from the teleporter, having just helped some people to evacuate. They shouldn't be that hard to counter with his versatile bending, but he's tired. There's bags under his eyes and a dark shadow on his face. He's exhausted, and he's making mistakes. If things keep going this way, a biting could be very likely.]

25th

[So busy with keeping an eye on his own crew, Sanji completely misses the fact Aang is also on the draft until he happens upon him sometime later at the camp. He hasn't gone out to fight yet; rather, he's decided his services are better suited to keeping as many of the Lucetians well-fed and well-stocked as far as provisions go.]

Oi, Aang. This your first draft?

25th

[Aang's sitting on a crate, considering what the draft he could have in store for him, but he looks up when he hears Sanji's voice. He's already somewhat anxious, but a friendly face helps him to not focus on that.]

Hey, Sanji. It's my second actually. I... I was on the moon.
