Days 2 - 6
[Artemis isn't sure what to expect with this Draft thing, and falling asleep the night before deployment is harder than it should have been. Which is why when the alarms go off in the middle of the night, it feels as though she's just fallen asleep and it takes her longer to clear the groggy disorientation to realize that something's really wrong.
Once she's on her feet, she joins in the fighting. She's dressed in her uniform, equipped with her bows. Usually she sticks to high vantage points when she can, keeping herself up and out of the thickest of the fighting. Although sometimes the fighting comes to her and while she does her best to stock up, she still has to make several trips during the day to restock on arrows, although she retrieves ones she finds as she can. She uses this as an excuse to catch some sleep and food as she can, checking in on news about what's happening elsewhere. She's not new to fighting, but this is far beyond her realm of experience, the constant struggle, the threat of attackers dropping down at any time, with no real lasting safety to be found.
Still, she does her best, keeping ranged when she can, fighting hand-to-hand when she can't, sometimes calling on every skill and trick she knows to evade the swarms of Cultists. When the Droids show up, she does venture out with a few groups to hunt down the Shifters controlling them and it's a little easier to go shooting at robots than it is the seemingly suicidal Cultists. It only takes one near-death experience to realize that these guys weren't pulling any of their punches and after that, she doesn't either, taking them down with a grim determination born from knowing if one of them was going to die, she didn't want it being her.]
[1st: Day 6]
[By the sixth day, she's drained and exhausted and wishing more than anything for the boring uneventful month she'd spent in the village. She wasn't going to be taking that for granted again any time soon. But they had orders today and it's an easy pick for Artemis to decide where she's headed. The mention of the detention centers scattered throughout the other garrisons are a place she can do some good, help people. And while she's not exactly having a crisis of conscience over the actions she's had to take over the past five days, the idea of being able to save people instead of just destroy them appeals to her.]
Day 2
"Artemis? That you?"
Re: Day 2
"Shouldn't that be my line? Nice makeup job, by the way. You might have used a tad too much eyeliner though."
Day 2
Sokka moved to the edge of the building, planting a foot on the ledge as he looked down. It wasn't that high up, but it was a pretty decent vantage point at least. He could see himself staying up here to pick cultists off.
"It's face paint. It's a warrior thing."
Re: Day 2
When he moved up to the edge of the building, she flopped down on the roof, keeping her balance with ease. She tugged on her quiver, checking her supplies and how well she was stocked. She'd done pretty well so far, but if the Cultists kept coming like they had been, she was going to have to go restock at some point. At the moment though, she was still good.
"Looks like we chased 'em off for a little bit." Maybe that was wishful thinking on her part. "Guess we're not getting that camping trip after all."
Day 2
"They'll be back. They're crazy, but I don't think they would raid this place for no reason."

Day 4
So it's probably no surprise that she gets taken out pretty quickly. One broken, bloodied eagle just landed a few feet from your perch. What do?]
Re: Day 4
Still, it's impossible to miss the high shriek of the bird as it plummets and it snaps Artemis out of her focus, lifting her gaze to follow its swift descent. Not at all controlled and she winces with the impact as it lands.
Artemis casts an assessing glance at where the Cultists are embroiled in fighting before launching herself out of her hiding spot. She didn't know who or what the bird was, but she didn't want their attackers finding out either.
She lands with a crouch beside the eagle, dropping her bow for the moment because she has a feeling she'll need her hands. Except she doesn't know where to touch, has no idea what to do with an injured bird and she curses softly, wondering if its safe to pick it up.]
Uh. Look. I don't know if you can understand me, but I'm gonna try to get you back to the healers, alright? Just... try not to peck me to death, yeah?
Day 4
Wait.
That girl was talking. Oh, crap, what was she saying? It was tough to tell, on account of all the...
Something about healers.
Wait. No. Not healers. Don't need a healer. Demorph. Gotta demorph.
After a few moments, she finally gets her head together enough to actually tell Artemis that, a voice speaking directly into her mind.]
-No. No healer. Just watch my back. Need to demorph.-
[... Man, you'd think by now she'd be used to demorphing after a seriously traumatic injury like this, but somehow it never got any easier.]
Re: Day 4
Uhh. Sure thing. I'll cover you. You do your... whatever it is you need to do.
[Which she hoped didn't take too long, because they were too much in the open here for Artemis’s liking. Still, she readied a shot just in case, keeping an eye on the direction their attackers were most likely to come from.]
Day 4
Still, this isn't her first time on this particular ride, and finally, she begins demorphing.
It's gross. Her broken, crushed torso seems to inflate. Feathers shrink into her skin. Her legs sprout into full human legs, her wings into human arms. It's never a smooth, graceful transition, but after one stomach-turning spectacle that looks much more painful than it is, a teenage girl in a leotard and tights is lying on the ground, looking tired but entirely uninjured.]
"Thanks for that."
[Now if she can just drag herself back to her feet.]

Day 3
But while it had been the girl and the arrows to initially attract her attention, it had been attention quickly captured by a cultist approaching the girl. She waited a second or two to see if the other girl noticed before reaching back for an arrow from her quiver. It might have been a year since she last had a chance to use the Mockingjay bow in battle, but it had felt much more like yesterday.
A couple of more seconds pass as she aims, pulls back the string, and lets an arrow fly right into the eye of the nearby cultist.]
Re: Day 3
Artemis blinks at him a moment, then lifts her gaze, searching for the source, her crossbow still braced and ready in her hand.]
Day 3
She walks over to the corpse and places her booted foot on top before she pulls out the arrow.]
Re: Day 3
Thanks for that. I'm not sure I could have gotten that shot off in time.
no subject
[She answered neutrally as she wiped the blood on the thigh of her trousers before placing it back in the quiver. Though she had been watching the girl, she still couldn't accurately determine the speed of a crossbow. If it had been the other way around, she wouldn't have gotten the shot fired from her bow in time.]

Day 4
She'll come around again to offer more fiery help, unaware of the cultist aiming a crossbow in her direction.]
Re: Day 4
It was even trickier than it sounded, and Artemis' head ached from a blow she'd taken from one of the droids when she hadn't been fast enough in dodging.
She swipes out with her bow, knocking aside a cultists that had gotten too close. He staggered and dropped and that's when she saw him, the cultitst with his crossbow aimed at the sky - supposedly at whatever had set his companion on fire a few moments before.]
Oh, no you don't.
[Artemis's expression is grimly determined and she looses an arrow before he can even finish aiming, the shaft burying itself in his throat with unerring accuracy.]
Day 4
It doesn't quite work out; a blast of some kind sends dirt and debris flying not far away, and the shock of it knocks the bird back against the wall - unhurt, but really dazed.]
Re: Day 4
She rolls, coming up in a defensive crouch in front of the strange bird, her bow ready as she squints into the thick air, her visibility still gone in the aftermath of the explosion. She doesn't know if the bird can hear or understand her, but she tries anyway.]
Hey! Are you okay?
Day 4
When the dust settles somewhat, Raven is standing again and shaking her head to clear it. Everything feels sort of percussed.]
I think so.

Re: Day 5
One moment she'd been scavenging for arrows in the lull between skirmishes and the next there was a patrol of droids stepping out of a hidden alleyway, practically on top of her. Her quiver was still barely halfway full, but Artemis dodged backwards, fitting one in her bow and aiming it at the nearest one.
She cursed when it did nothing but bounce harmlessly off the metal plating. Her normal arrows were no good against these robots, but she'd run out of specially-tipped ones early in the morning while fighting these patrols. Unless she found the shifter controlling them, this was going to be messy.]

Darting past an alley, he suddenly stops and twists back catching sight of a blonde ponytail. Ino?
Second glance makes that big fat no, but an ally is an ally even if they haven't met. Kneeling, he barks at the shift hunter before it can get too far ahead of him.] Stay!
[That was probably loud enough to get the attention of the droids too.]
no subject
Another one's already there to take their place however and she's not fast enough to block the blow that crashes down on her shoulders from behind, sending her sprawling to hands and knees and knocking the wind from her lungs. Damn, the things packed a punch.]
