WHO WANTS PRESENTS?

Who: Anyone and everyone!
What: Getting unexpected gifts
When: From 6 PM on the 23rd until midnight of the 27th
Where: The central plaza and the fountain
Summary: Hey, that's a rather interesting-looking button at the bottom of that statue. I wonder what happens if I press it?
Rating: No higher than PG-13, I hope.

[Anyone passing through the center of town this evening will have a very hard time missing that large golden Santa statue that has suddenly appeared in the fountain. But... wait, isn't that Bil instead of Santa? Somehow, that isn't exactly a surprise.

But perhaps the most interesting feature of the statue is the large button at its base. Will you press it?]

[What is with that statue. Just. Eyeing it for a little bit but eventually wandering his way closer. Circling it once until he spies that button and blinks at it. Hmm. A moment of consideration and--pressing now.

Oh hey. Box. Tiny box but box nevertheless. Naoki, shouldn't you be more suspicious. Sigh. He'll be just wandering off to the side to pick this thing open and...hrm. Another box? Opening--

...fffffffffffffff what is with this (http://diamond-s.org/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/mens-diamond-ring.jpg)?! Nobody mind him over here.]

[Poland's been pretty bummed because he doesn't have a carp. It seems like a silly thing to be sad about, but almost every year, he's had a carp to put in his bathtub for a few days before he tries to eat it and usually failing, but it's still a tradition.

He couldn't find it in him to go out in the cold, get a fishing pole, and catch a fish however. He's not going to freeze his butt off.

He's sadly going around the village when he sees the statue. And the fact it has a button? Well, Poland's going to press that button. And out pops...a carp.

It's flailing around on the ground as Poland stares in shock until he tries to catch it. Okay, he should probably get it some water, but oh my gosh a carp!]

[ Not far from the statue, Hamekoma can be found with a fluffy black-and-white kitten latched onto the front of his shirt. He's trying to pry her off and failing pretty miserably -- laugh at him, lend the guy a hand, or coo over the kitty? ]

[Shirou poked at the statue a little, wonder what the heck was up with it.]

This wasn't here yesterday, was it? I definitely don't remember it being there.

[Terra is peering up...and up and up...at the large golden statue, dumbfounded. She's never seen anything quite like this before and has no idea what to make of it. Pacing around the statue doesn't reveal any particular insight, though glancing at the base brings her attention to that button.

...what is that for? And if she presses it, will something horrible happen? Indecisive, Terra remains where she is for the moment.]

HEY! Who the heck is this guy and why does he get a statue!?

[Says the rather unfestive dragoturtle staring up at the statue, arms crossed, and fuming in not-so-silent envy.]

[Of course Aldo is inspecting the giant, shiny gold statue in the square with curiosity. Luceti always has something new happening, doesn't it?

Ohhh. A button. Let’s see what it does!

When a box comes out, he’ll open it to find… a pair of binoculars.]

[It's evening on Christmas Eve by the time Link finally manages to spot the statue. (Not that it was hard to miss, but, well. He's been spending time in the forest lately.)]

[The statue, and, of course, its button. Link stares at it for a moment, then...]

[Well, there's not too much of a hard decision to make. He presses it, and out pops a smallish box in cheery forest print wrapping paper. Saving the long green ribbon for Foot, he opens it up, and...]

[For the next little while, Link can be found sitting near the statue's base, carefully playing a cheerful tune on a little brown ocarina. It's far too small for him, designed for a child's hands, but from the joyful expression on his face, he doesn't seem to mind.]

[Shadow ninja-sneaks in toward the strange new statue. He circles around it a few times, but nothing seems to be happening.]

[Eventually he gives in and tosses a shuriken toward the button on the statue...]

[...and out pops a box. Small box. Definitely the kind that you would find containing a ring. Time to investigate this. So he creeps in, takes his shuriken away, then snatches up the box and opens it to stare at the ring inside.]

[Now what in the world is this? Litchi stops, giving both the statue and the big button beneath it a curious look for a moment. Somehow, she doesn't get the feeling anything bad will happen necessarily if she pushes it, but... well. You can never be too sure around here, right?

She just stands, eying the button uncertainly. Maybe...]

[Vincent is very restless anyway, unable to relax and sleep as he normally would after such an intense ordeal. He's still bandaged up in a few places, and his clawed gauntlet is banged up- there's been no time to see to repairing it.]

[But still. He needs to clear his head and walk around... that's when he notices the statue. That's... new. He approaches and gives the whole thing a wary stare.]

[Ugh. That... that is gaudy. And of yourself, Sir Catherine? Geeez.

He'd think melting it down--- wait, what is this? Huh, fascinating.]

[Law's just going to watch a few people get their gifts (and some whack the button for a second present - to no avail) before sauntering over to press the button himself.

What pops out causes his eyebrows to raise. Medical supplies. An entire first responder's trauma kit, stocked to the brim with supplies meant for any situation, including advanced life support.

Well...

He starts to chuckle. Something he needed, given Luceti's nasty habit of throwing surprises left, right, and center.]

Heh. Thanks.

[Give credit and thanks when it's due, even though he loathes you Malnosso folks to the bone.]

[Kain stares at the statue for a moment. He's come out here a little earlier than the time he'd planned to meet with Terra... and now wonders why such a thing has appeared.]

[After a while of uncertainty, Kain goes over to press that button. After recent events, he really feels he has nothing to lose and will bear the consequences of whatever happens.]

[identity profile] touchedbystars.livejournal.com 2010-12-24 01:01 pm (UTC)(link)
[Considering everyone he's noticed pushing that button seemed safe? He deduced this probably means it's not a bad thing to let his curiosity get the best of him so he can check this out.

Not that it didn't make him stop and pause in front of it anything, crossing his arms and looking at the button dubiously. Wonder what he'd get if he touches it?]

[The sun is down when Derek finally makes his way outside and to the town square. He's still shaky and should probably stayed in bed, but he's curious.

He'll study the stature for a bit at first, shaking his head when he recognizes 'Santa's' face.]

Nice, Bil...

[Next, he'll notice the button. And he'll stare at it for a good long time before he finally presses it. What's the worst that can happen, right?

That doesn't keep him from stepping back though when a small, Christmas themed envelop slide out of the feed. It takes him a few more seconds to decide to take it and open it.

He'll stand there for a long time, staring at the two photos inside before tucking them back into the envelope...and the envelope into an inside jacket pocket.]

[On his usual observing routine, Jay can't help but notice the gold statue in the center of the plaza. He recognizes the figure all right, and boy does he look ridiculous with that Santa costume. Jay then notices the button...he is insatiably curious as to what it does, but he knows better than to trust any kind of contraption that Bil comes up with. So he'll be looking around at the people passing by. All he needs is a decoy to "spring the trap" for him...]

[That is a very strange statue. Yes, very strange indeed... And yet, Asbel can't help but draw closer to it. It's a very nice, shiny statue, yes... Even if the figure in question looks strange. Most curious, though, is that button on the base of the statue. Common sense would tell you to be wary of a button like that, but.... lol common sense.

He gives the button a press. What appears afterwards is, well... This painting.
]

...! This is... [He takes the painting in hand, staring at it. It was... the painting that hangs in his manor back home.]

...Mother... Father... Hubert...

[That statue is ginormous. Even more so when you're just a tiny little glowing poncle girl. Miyabi gapes up at the statue (Catherine, you are rocking that Santa hat, dude, seriously) and...is that a button? Yes, yes it is a button.

WHAT DOES IT DO; I MUST KNOW.

Miyabi huffs, and jumps up - the biggest jump she could possibly make - and slams into that button with all her might. Poncle rocket, gooo!]

Hah...now what? Is something supposed to happ--UWAAAH!! [Yeah, she tripped over the gift. Good job, Miya.] WHO DID THAT, I'M GOING TO--..oh, a gift! Is this for me? Mm, it's my size, so I guess it's for me.

[Hesitantly, because the Malnosso always suck doncha know, Miyabi opens up her brightly wrapped gift and stares. Her breath caught in her throat as she held up a smooth green cape, tattered a little at the bottom, and with the symbol of the poncle tribe painted in red on the back. It was Issun's cape.

Miyabi gripped it tightly, burying her face into the fabric before curling the cape around herself and cuddling right up into it. They may suck a great deal of the time, but when the Malnosso wanna actually be nice, they do know how to do it.]

...Thank you.

Look at this gaudy thing...

[She'll come upon it, bemused expression on her face before she notices the button at the bottom.

This place has taught her to be wary, so she'll close her eyes in thought while the eye on her forehead remains open, still taking in the statue.

Hm.]

[Strange golden statue is strange, but... that looks like a Santa outfit. Must be some kind of Christmas thing, then. Yukito pauses to watch the fountain curiously as a couple other people approach, press the button, and get a present, then finally steps forward himself to give it a try.

He stares at the rice cooker that appears with something approaching reverent awe, then when he finally picks it up he holds it tightly against his chest as though worried he'll lose it. It's so... perfect.]

[After watching people receive gifts for a little while where he's standing off to the side, Lazlo himself approached the statue. Reached out to press the button and--well now.

It's not a large gift, but there's a wide, pleased smile spreading over his face as he peers at the miniature model of the Dauntless in the glass bottle. He holds it carefully in gloved hands, unable to not feel happy about this somewhat-reminder of home.]

[ It takes a lot of moody, dramatic staring at this new statue, plus observing other residents receive gifts themselves, before Lightning finally, finally decides to try this push-button-present-get thing for herself. Of course, she has absolutely no reason to trust whatever is behind it, but who is she to turn down anything potentially useful? Even if it comes from... that.

And so, looking as casual as possible, she does eventually stomp up and push the button, gaining her... a box? A very large, purple-red one, with gold ribbon tied in a big fat bow on the top. And... and it's wriggling, with quiet snuffling noises coming from the holes punched along the sides.

The moment she realizes this? She just freezes, staring at the box in disbelief. ]

[Having seen a few villagers getting gifts from the statue, Luke couldn't help himself. He strolled up to the statue and put his hands on his hips, staring up at the statue with narrowed eyes. Even though he knew that no harm would be done, he still had his suspicions. Why would they want to give the rest of them gifts, anyway?

His wariness didn't last long, as it bled into curiosity. Because it was a button, a button you push, and it was huge. So, with a little wince, Luke hesitantly reached out and pressed the button...

Only to hear a large "THUMP".]

Huh?

[Upon seeing what it was, Luke's shoulders fell, and he let out a long sigh. It was a book. A big book. Luke didn't mind little fictional books, but large ones? Still, it was a gift, and so he grabbed it and read the title-

His interest immediately shot up.]

Whoa... "A Thorough Examination of Hyperresonance"?

[All of his teachings had been through other people, never with explanations from a book, considering no one could really study it enough to write one. Ignoring the cold and the fact that his coat was definitely unbuttoned, Luke flipped open the book and started to read the introduction right then and there.]

[identity profile] yellowthirteen.livejournal.com 2010-12-24 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
[The pilot, like many, was initially cautious of the statue. He approached it only to get a good examination of it. ...Honestly, it looked like that blue man... Catherine. In a Santa outfit. Well. He certainly has an interesting sense of humor. Might as well check it out closer up.

So he does, discovering the button. He blinks at it. Oh, this could so obviously be a trap. But other people had messed with it and were fine, so. Might as well give it a look. So he pushes it.

And there is a loud thump as a huge box materializes behind him. He jumps at this, then turns around to see a huge wrapped present with a tag: "To David Jordan". Well. It's big and obviously heavy. What the hell? He begins removing the wrapping.

To discover that it's a box... with a big TV in it. And a DVD player. Complete with a massive movie collection.

Okay. He can't resist letting out a joyful laugh at this. Hell yes he missed this. But then as he stops celebrating, a thought occurred to him.

How the hell was he going to get this home?!]
