Your characters are shuffling off to their rooms. Each room has their name beside it and only they can open the door. People can only enter their room if they're allowed in (or they leave the door open). Characters will find any requested items in their room already. If they have a requested vehicle, there will be another door in their room that will take them to the hangar to inspect their equipment.

((Mod note: Extra draftees won't experience their Shift Incompatibility handicap in their dorms. :|a))

Go for it. [He doesn't miss a beat, casual as he was seconds earlier.] Just remind me to make up a cooler story if it does something unexpected like melting my arm off.

A conversation I had with Caesar. [dryly] He recommended a scout less obvious than a giant owl.

[Katara shoots him a look.]

Why is everyone worried that this is going to do something bad? It won't work on its own, you know. [She unclasps the plainer vial.]

I still have to use it. If I saw it doing something bad, I'd stop.

[The water streams out, but she doesn't coat her hand with it - instead she leaves it hovering over her hand so as to not ruin any of its special properties.]

Just hold out your hand.

[She streams about half of the water back into the vial. They shouldn't need so much for just what she was doing, and if for some crazy reason all of them were somehow justified, just starting out touching his middle finger should leave her plenty of time to pull back if the sacred spirit water that feels right and powerful and good just when she's holding it actually turns into some sort of monstrous man-eating acid. Eesh.]

[He unfolds one hand open.] S'not like it went anywhere.

[But judging from the way she returns some of the water to its vial, he's glad to see he isn't the only not-not-paranoid one here.]

Yes and no. The rules might be a little different but in the end, it's exactly the same for every game. Trying to outthink your opponent before he or she outthinks you.

One of these days, we'll have to teach you. It's good fun.

[She's not not-not-paranoid. She's humoring you. Honestly. She lowers some of the water to his hand, and his chi system lights up in her mind like lightning.

There's no procedure for this - for restoring life - and this water is nearly alive itself. It wants something and Katara can give it the power to achieve it - and so she does, letting the water have its way...

...and the water loses its glow, drops to the floor, and Shikamaru's chi system is filled to the brim with the force of life.]

[Ghosts are indeed cool!

Meanwhile, Ven's continuing to watch the screen with a mix of curiosity and awe. Yeah, this is what happens when you've never played video games before.]

Don't worry about it. Everybody could use some company sometimes.

[Even if they're divided by a door.]

Yeah, I think so.

[A beat.]

But I won't lie; I'm kinda scared right now. Vanitas is next door to me...

Did he now. [A slight chuckle.] I don't suppose there are too many books on training giant owls.

It would make people upset! [She'd run to the door and slam it shut, but really, he's right by it, and if she does that she just knows she's going to end up chasing him through the hall.]

[...Yeah okay he's going to do that. Phone. Looking at it now]

You think so? Even though there's always trouble around?

They have a pretty dangerous weakness, don't they. [Good thing Bil told them about it, though. Geez.]

Aaaaaaand so the sunglasses-boomerang conks Lagann right on the dome and sends it flying. WELL DONE, GOLD.

Surprisingly undamaged, at least. Just sort of. Upside down.]

[She nods.] Wow, they got you early. I was here for a few months before I had to go out and fight.

[Her gaze rests on his sword hilts for a moment.] But it looks like you've got experience.

[Shikamaru's not sure what he was expecting. The unexpected, maybe? Look underneath the underneath and all that stuff he learned in the academy - be prepared for anything.

He wasn't prepared.

It's not a bad feeling. He can tell that much. There's a nearly silent intake of air, and he leans forward just so, staring at his hands as if trying to see it.

It feels like a sudden current through the stream, following the chakra pathways through his organs and brushing past his cells. Never has he been so conscious of it all before - not on this level. It's akin to sensory overload, but gentler if that's possible.

Trained to be so responsive, his chakra spins, less diluted by strain and the energy from the soldier pills that punched through it like a boulder. It begins to clear; to build. And while he doesn't speak, his breathing is easy and the tremors in his hands have finally stilled.]

[Why does everyone keep trying to get her to play strategy games? Do they enjoy beating her that much? S-sob.

But Katara - not a little wryly - just shrugs.]

Sure. [Shikamaru, do not hear this and immediately appear with a board.] They're not really my thing, but I'll be happy to give it a try.

Deal. [Well, for the most part. If it becomes a problem to him, out there while fighting, she'll be getting plenty bothered about it.]

Yeah, well now you have. [Yeesh... women.] You got something else you need?

[Katara notes the change in his breathing and that he seems steadier, more inside his skin - good. Good.]

Better?

[It takes him a second to respond, too busy processing it all and trying to categorize just what that feeling was. But he nods - slowly at first, then once more and firmer as he looks at her again.]

Yeah.

Good.

[And she really is glad to hear that - especially since she won't be going out with him tomorrow. Knowing he'll be able to take care of himself is important.

Katara tucks the vials back under her tunic.]

We'll do the same thing if you need it tomorrow night, too.

[And the night after that... and after that, if it's necessary.]

As long as they can give it to me here - we might as well use it.

If you need anything when you're back with us, just say something. I know I can't offer much besides a granola bar and a shoulder, but... [Shrug.]

I haven't yet. He's leading the defense group, isn't he?
