Smart Turtle! Donatello! Oi! Buffy, she's all at sixes and sevens, and needs you to scrub her!

[... Something is clearly wrong with Buffy. Don turns to Jack, whose theatrics don't impress him, but who at least is not less coherent than he usually is.]

I have a big mess going on at home and I'm only here out of respect for Buffy. What's wrong with her, and how do you want me to fix it? [It is implied that you should explain in real words this time.]

[ her smile remains fixed -- unwavering. ]

Spike's missing. That's what's wrong -- but Captain Sparrow said I only have to wait here and he'll be back. [ there's a slight indication that she might have been about to add something (possibly something ill-intentioned about jack's piratical ways) but the programming clicks back to grinning. ]

She's a robot Donatello. Robot? And something something "scrub her Spike programming." [Jack DOES sound sort of desperate.] If I knew HOW I would tell you, wouldn't I? I don't know these robots, mate!

[Oh, well, why didn't you say so in the first place.]

[Don moves into the house and unzips his bag.] Where's her interface?

[ the robot continues to hold the door open -- peering outside for any glimpse of her 'boyfriend'. you kids have your chat, she'll just be robo-psycho over here. ]

Her---it's right there! On the front of her head, turtle!

[Jack, you're useless. Don balances his computer on one arm, turns it on, and plugs in the connecting cable. (Why the Malnosso gave him such a cable when there's virtually nothing to connect to, he doesn't know, but on this occasion he's glad to have it.) Then he taps Buffy on the shoulder and offers her the other end.]

Hi. Do you mind if I jack in?

[ abrupt. hard. you're not willow or spike or (sob) warren. ]

[Jack tries to smooth this over. It is probably the only use he is, here.]

Buffy! Have you met Spike's......servant....Donatello? He is a highly intelligent turtle-man what is carrying out Spike's explicit orders to service you.

Not in that way, though. Might he plug his whatsit into your thingmajig?

Oh.

[ apparently, this is pretty much all the reassurance this poor robot needs. but she can't plug herself in. she shoulders past the turtle and the pirate and heads towards the dining room table. she takes a seat. ]

[ the buffybot begins by methodically removing her jacket one sleeve at a time and folding the jacket neatly onto the table top. then, propped up on one arm, she leans forward and reaches around to her back -- lifting her shirt, she reveals a panel of fake-robo-skin that peels back.

lots of metal and wires and interesting little ports to be found. or be horrified at. ]

[Yup. Horrified, over here. Don?]

[Intrigued! Don leans over, inspects his options, and plugs his cable into one of the ports.]

So - [- he says, as his computer establishes the connection and he begins working his way into Buffy's codebase.] What, um, 'service', can I do for you?

[ the bot, slumped forward, isn't answering. hers is not to reason why and a lead plugged into the panel is usually accompanied by some form of stand-by. ]

Scrub her of the Spike-ish programming, mate. [Jack helpfully supplies this answer; then, realizing that Don might not quite "get" that, he continues:] She thinks she's HIS, mate, to do whatever he requires. A slave, savvy?

[Slavery; a nightmarish state to be in.]

If she's the Slave machine, where's the Master?

[It's mostly an idle question; Don doesn't expect Jack to know what he's talking about. He'll figure it out himself, anyway, as he scans through the code. He'll take some time to study the entire program before starting to rewrite anything.]

[ blank-facing. more like a mannequin or a doll than a woman. the lip-gloss is just a little bit too glossy. ]

It's my hope he's hangin' up by his toenails from a very tall tree, but all evidence points to the fact that he's been sent back home, turtle.

Lucky us.

[Jack waves a hand in front of that blank face. This is horrible. It is almost like looking at Buffy dead, and he is getting increasingly jumpy at that image.]

Aha. [A simple statement to himself. He grasps the logic now, and sets to work removing the sections that control the overall behavior of the program, while leaving the functional segments alone. In a few minutes he says:]

I'm recompiling now. This may trigger a reboot...

[ sure enough, the buffybot's eyes shut. like sleep. there are no sounds -- no whirs or clicks or obvious noises of machinery. she'll boot back in a moment. ]

Triggering? [There is a warning tone in Jack's voice; he wants to trust Donatello with this but the whole thing is making him very nervous.]

Just wait. [And he will do exactly that, while the Buffybot goes through its start-up system checks.]
