Hold on, did ya hear that? I don't think we're alone.

[all7seas]

Bugger....I'll NOT be caught out again by those bastards, mate.

[drawing his pistol, the pirate peers into the brush around them, searching for any sign of the enemy.]

[crisisrain]

Again? [Maybe now isn't the best time to question that. He pulls out his bow, reading to fire. Where were they... He keeps his voice quiet.]

High ground, let's get up into the trees.

[all7seas]

[jack is already climbing, silent now. It wouldn't do to be ambushed again, like in the barn with McCoy. Being trapped meant death, especially if there was a large troop of enemy soldiers and they had a shifter or elite with them.]

Lemme correct that XD

[Silence... broken only by the sounds of rustling leaves, heavy footsteps and echoing hollow board-walks. They were here, the sound pouring from every direction.]

Those bastards, we're surrounded.

haha okay

[NO. It was happening again, then; surrounded by an enemy that from the sounds of it far outnumbered the two of them. This time there wasn't a Bones to protect, of course. Raven could handle himself. And there really wasn't time to dwell on the similarities between this situation and that of the last draft.

If there was an elite soldier, Jack had a bullet with his name on it.]

Then we fight...to run.

[He draws his sword, switching his pistol to his left hand.]

Clear a path through them! This is their base, they know it better than we do!

[As the enemies finally approached, Raven began firing arrows, trying to make a way for them to escape. There was no way they would be able to win in this situation, it was retreat or die and he wasn't happy about it. If they didn't leave soon, they were going to come up against elites and shifters.]

[Jack found himself too busy shooting and then, soon enough, too busy fighting hand-to-hand to respond right away. The path they were trying to clear was very quickly becoming filled with reinforcements.]

[crisisrain]

[This was getting worse and worse, there was no clear escape, and each route was being filled within seconds. It wouldn't be long before the big troops showed up to finish them off.

Raven fired several arrows into the air, causing them to pour down like rain onto their opponents. It wouldn't be enough, but it was injuring a wide group.]

They were going to have to jump. It was just like last time---a jump into the unknown, too-small wings spread wide to try to glide as much as possible.

Then Jack had an idea.]

RAVEN! HOLD!

[He jerked his head toward the rope railing of the bridge before raising his sword to cut the support they were standing on.]

[crisisrain]

[He gritted his teeth together. He didn't approve of the idea, but he didn't have any of his own right now. Just this feeling in his chest, something that happened the day before... but it was a blur.]

You better be ready to run through the mud if you cut that, we're still gonna be surrounded!

[all7seas]

Gonna SWING.

[Making sure that one ankle was wound through the ropes on the bridge, Jack slices through the ropes with two deft movements. The bridge breaks apart beneath them; hopefully, by hanging on to the ropes, the two men can swing a distance from the site of the melee and regroup, or run. There are shouts as some Third Party soldiers fall to the floor of the forest and others send arrows flying after Luceti's finest.]

[crisisrain]

[Raven is stunned for a moment as they land.]

You're insane, you know that?! Now let's move it before the Shifters get here. These guys can fly remember! We're screwed the moment they pull themselves together.

[all7seas]

Aye! Run! Now! Fast! As though the very bears of Luceti are after you, boyo!

[Jack is not going to wait around. Their trajectory had insured they weren't surrounded anymore, but he can already hear the sounds of pursuit. Shouting. Jeering. That, perhaps, is the worst.]

[crisisrain]

South of here! Go south! We won't lose them that way, it's full of swamps!

[He grabs Jack's arm, pulling him toward his direction, continuing their escape. If they slowed down, even for a second, then the Shift Hunters would be on top of them. That was not a situation Raven wanted to be in, ever. He'd already had enough of this war, and they were no where near the end.]

[all7seas]

[Jack runs with his friend, not giving up any speed at the change of direction. He's not sure he wants to lose them in a swamp, because there are generally other not-very-nice things in swamps, but he's game enough to go along for now.]

AND SWAMPS ARE FULL OF....THINGS.

[crisisrain]

Exactly! That's why we're running away from that direction!

[He leads Jack towards the center of the rainforest. The tree roots are getting larger and more difficult to navigate. But there are plenty of places they could hide around here.]

[all7seas]

[Sparrow very nimbly leaps over these roots, dodging around trees and flowering plants. He is just about to suggest they climb another tree when the sound of roaring hits his ears, like a waterfall sort of roaring. Pushing through the trees, he stops suddenly---on the edge of a gorge, which the nearby waterfall is pouring into.]

.....Wuh oh. Complications.

[crisisrain]

How far would you say that gorge was? Across I mean.

[Thinking, thinking, thinking.]

Far enough, mate.

[Meaning too far to jump, definitely.]

We could use the trees, perhaps...

[crisisrain]

That distance might work to our advantage. Gives us a clear side where they're a hell of a lot less likely to attack us from. Let's keep close to it and keep to runnin' along the side. When we find a point we can cross, or jump, then we'll go for it.

[all7seas]

Worth a try. Onward, Raven lad! Because if we don't move onward soon, we shall both be waking up in a week and cursing our slowness.

[Jack begins to pick his way along the edge of the gorge, searching for any sort of hiding place, easier way down, or other solution to their problem.

Of course, there's always jumping into the river below, but he is not currently feeling that "I WANT TO JUMP" feeling.]

Considering what that Commandant said, I don't think we will be coming back if we die out here this time. That's why we need to remain as vigilant as possible.

[It had been a long time since Raven had been this serious. There had to be something they could use, if they were by the river below then it would pose as an advantage. After all, a river leads to a lake or the ocean, it's an easy point to follow and he's sure this one passes by the base camp. Jumping is out of the picture though, that water is rushing too quickly due to being so close to a waterfall. They needed to gain more distance, and quickly.]

Strange question, but do you have any explosives?

[all7seas]

Hmm? Nah. I've my pistol, and my rifle, and my sword. Why? And that commandant, lad, was bluffing about that. I'd bet a gold tooth on it.

I don't trust them either way, and I'm not about to take the risk of finding out. Gold tooth or not.

We need to make a distraction, something to send them off course and away from us. I could cast magic, but I'd need the time, which is something we're short of right now.
