[Jack tries to hold those hands steady. He sounds like he can hardly believe it.] You broke the curse, Mistress?

[wise_maiden]

... Yes, the curse is gone. You should be fine now. [She shakes her head a little. Focus. She still doesn't feel her magic.]

We need to get out of there. There could be enemies close.

[all7seas]

[Right. Enemies. Jack gets to his feet slowly, trying to pull Raine up with him. He resists the urge to say YES THAT IS WHAT I HAVE BEEN SAYING ALL ALONG.] Your temple, mistress...perhaps you'll have a chance to return to the bloody place one day though I don't know why you'd WANT to and---

[and suddenly his attention is caught by something shiny...]

[She lets him help her to her feet, as she grabs hold of her bag and fallen staff, half listening and nodding and then frowning when his attention suddenly seems to wander-]

And what?

[Jack reaches down to pick up what he has spotted in the low light of the temple: a small clay tablet covered in runes. This he hands to Raine.]

Dunno. Found this.

[wise_maiden]

[Now you've gone and done it, Jack. Those eyes are all lit up again as she quickly gets her bearings, peering over the object almost greedily.]

Raine? You're...............completely obsessed with temple treasures.

[wise_maiden]

Ohhhh, I wonder what it is that these runes say! Perhaps it's a code, or perhaps a clue to the true past here in this world. If only I had the means to decipher them, here! No, surely there must be some way... this tablet may have once been part of something larger. The surface is smooth, but the edges, rough, worn down by years of weather. Even the patterns on them are faded, and yet...

Mistress Raine, darling? I'll not leave you here to die in this cursed temple.

[Sorry Jack, she's too busy comparing the symbols on the wall to the tablet slap in her hand, looking to see if it fell down from there, still rambling on a bit, when suddenly-]

A pretty good one too, as she's yanked right up through the open hole in the ceiling area]

RAINE!? [If there is one sort of trap Jack is intimately familiar with, it is the snare. The pirate desperately tries to trigger another, aiming not to get caught in it but to free a rope that he can use to follow her.]

Raine, I'm coming, love, I'm--

[SCORE. Sparrow steps aside just in time to avoid being snared himself, while grabbing hold of the rope that yanks him upwards through the very ceiling where the sage disappeared.]

RAINE? [It's DARK up here.] Where are you?!

[For the moment, there's no answer-- only the sound of a slab of stone falling, falling and crack on the path below.

Then:]

My precious sample!



[Oh, the echo. That's probably not good. That might stir anything hiding up here in the dark. Strangely leafy dark, at that.]

[all7seas]

Raine. Forget. The. Sample. Bugger. Where. Are. YOU? [He gropes around for her in the dark, hoping against hope that another trap won't spring and that he won't go crashing through the floor.]

[wise_maiden]

I'm a few feet above you. Maybe. Stop moving around and I'll try to make a -- ...



Oh. So that's still not working...

[all7seas]

[In the darkness, the pirate stretches his arms out as high as he can, trying to get hold of her.]

Shifter nearby? Bugger.

[wise_maiden]

[It takes a few moments, but she's finally able to get that knife out of her bag and cut herself free.

... But she's hesitant to drop down in case there might not actually be something to drop down to, instead clinging to the rope.]

Jack?

[all7seas]

Darling?

[wise_maiden]

There aren't any large gaping holes in the floor, are there? It would be impractical if I missed this jump.

[all7seas]

Well why don't you let me catch you? I haven't found any holes yet, but I'm here, love.

[wise_maiden]

But Jack, that's -- [She fall silent for a moment as she listens now, to the sound of the rope starting to come apart.] Just make sure you catch my bag first, all right?

Send it down, darling; this temple is one great trap and I don't relish the idea of sitting in it any longer.

[He waits, ready---even though he can't actually SEE anything. He again brings up his arms, feeling around for the sage swinging somewhere above him.]

[First the bag-- it's packaged well but still reasonably light to carry. Her staff is attached to it though, which might make it awkward for catching. He might be able to judge her distance to him from that, at least-- maybe about two to three feet above where his hands can reach. After all, the people who built this place could fly.]
