I see the bad moon rising / I see trouble on the way

Who: Everyone!
What: There are these crazy masks everywhere, you see. And does the moon look strange to you?
When: The 23rd through the 30th. (If you want to backdate a thread in here to the 22nd for some reason, feel free. A separate log for the day of Halloween will go up at a later date!)
Where: Everywhere!
Summary: Things are starting to get a little spooky around here. What with masks that range from silly to creepy to downright menacing turning up everywhere, the people wearing them beginning to act strangely, and that menacing moon looking down.... why, it's starting to feel a little like Halloween.
Rating: Anywhere from G to hard R for violence, I'd imagine.

"...Terrible."

Damn his mask. Damn it to the very back of the line at the DMV.

A slowly released breath, and Jack Sparrow tugged the slayer closer. He who had so very much wanted to run, before. But now the shoe was on the other foot. "No."

[herotypical]

"Feeling guilty about it is a little bit like him still being here. If I'm okay with it? Then he's gone."

She didn't realize how eerily the words sounded like what she had once said to Dawn after Joyce had died.

Jack could somewhat understand this equivocation. Hadn't he done something of the same when she'd left him before the Seven Days? During those Seven Days? He reached up to tug on the mask again; it seemed to be looser, but it still wasn't leaving his face.

"What other sorts of guilt are you carrying about? That should be done away with?"

[herotypical]

A soft hiss -- like being burned. Was he asking because he knew she had to answer? Perhaps it was only her just desserts. But she didn't have to like it.

"A-about Bones?" She stalled, trying to keep a careful lid on all that guilt and responsibility.

[all7seas]

"In a general sense, I suppose," he offered. He should let her go. He shouldn't ask her any more. But it was hard to resist.

[herotypical]

"...I never stopped feeling guilty about breaking his arm that one time." Her toes wiggled nervously in the grass. "Even if it was an accident."

[all7seas]

"You can stop now, if you like. I won't make you." He pulled back, slightly, certain now that there were things he probably wasn't meant to know---and that was okay.

[herotypical]

"...And now I feel guilty for making you say, earlier."

[all7seas]

"And I feel...something akin to guilt for your worries over Jilly." Oh, guilt. How he hated it and sought to distance himself from it at all times.

[herotypical]

"...She is a sweetheart."

[all7seas]

"She is a sweetheart. And my...my highly questionable and blackish heart belongs to you."

And that, he well knew, was highly dangerous.

[herotypical]

But for how long? Now that she had been obtained? These worried plagued her from time to time.

"Not to questionable. And hey. It beats. I like that."

[all7seas]

But it was; he had spoken the truth. Jack Sparrow was a good man, at times, but he had the capacity to be a terrible one, and that capacity did not lurk that far beneath the surface. One hundred souls thrown beneath a rather large bus, after all.

His answer rumbled out in spite of all those darker thoughts. "Glad. Glad you like that."

She said nothing. All Buffy did was sneak her arms around his waist and lay her head against that beating, questionable heart. Hers.

And he bent his head to kiss her, and laid his porcelain-covered cheek against the top of her head instead.

[herotypical]

"You know," she eventually piped up from the centre of the hug -- pushing aside thoughts about perhaps heading back inside despite the fresh, freeing feel of the afternoon air. "You could always try Jim Carreying your way out of that mask. Jim Carrey in Liar Liar, not int...y'know, The Mask."

[all7seas]

"And...I have no idea what you're talking about."

Truth.

[herotypical]

"Fine. Okay. Let's start with an easy lie. Try and tell me that you don't at least a little bit like the fact that you have no idea what I'm talking about."

[all7seas]

"I---"

He stopped, his tongue tangled up. The mask felt suddenly hot against his skin.

"Bugger."

[herotypical]

"You are trying, right? Like -- really, really trying?"

[all7seas]

"Aye. Shall I try once more? Annie? I h-hate. I highly dislike...

I've never...

I love it when you mystificate me."

[herotypical]

"...Okay, maybe we need something a little more basic."

She pushed back and perched her hands loosely on her hips. Business-like. "What colour's the sky? Lie to me."

"Bluuuuuuurple."

[herotypical]

"...Is that progress? That might have actually been progress."
