New Year's brings images of crowds, and songs, and fireworks; staying up til midnight and watching balls or bells being rung. But Luceti is a different time and place. Whether you're partying with friends or watching the sunrise, what are you doing today?

[ It's not that Falkner's aiming to be antisocial; the crowds and the fireworks and everything else just aren't his thing. He's used to greeting the year in a quieter manner, by himself or with his father. After years and years that's what he prefers.

But still... Luceti's a new place, and habits can change, right? With his Noctowl perched on his shoulder he wanders around the village quietly, half-focused on his surroundings and half in his own head. Luckily the bird is keeping watch and will cry out if he nearly bumps into somebody. ]

[catches]

[Well, he spies that Noctowl... talking with another Trainer sounds like a good way to enjoy the celebrations, right?

So, he'll let out Beldum (thus skipping the 'hi, I'm a Trainer!!' part of the conversation) and walk over.]

Hey there!

[flockingjustice]

[ Ah, another Pokemon trainer...! With a Pokemon he hasn't seen before, too. He nods a small "hello" to the Beldum, his Noctowl giving a call as well. ] Greetings. Are you enjoying the celebrations?

[catches]

[Beldum, meanwhile, fixes the pair of them with what's probably supposed to be an inquistive look... before losing interest and turning to watch the festivities.

Curse that Lax nature, it's making him look bad!] You bet! The fireworks are a nice touch. You?

[flockingjustice]

I am as well. It's kind of nice to see so many people together like this... [ Though there are so many unfamiliar faces!

He pauses for a moment, eyes flickering between Beldum and its trainer. ] What kind of Pokemon is that, if I may ask?

[catches]

Yeah, it's pretty heart-warming, I'd say. [ Wow, Brodum has attracted attention! ]

Oh, this guy? He's a Beldum; you can find them in the Hoenn region, but they're pretty rare!

Meanwhile... that's a Noctowl, right?

[flockingjustice]

[ Falkner nods a little as Noctowl gives a call in confirmation. SUP I'M A NOCTOWL ] That's correct. They're native to the Johto region.

I've only heard about the Hoenn region... I have to admit, I've never been there myself.

[folklorist]

[ So I head you liek birds. Have one light phoenix, swooping through the air soundlessly, as it leaves trails of glowing embers in its wake. It'll turn up into the sky and burst into a million different colored lights, each one raining silently down upon the village below.

This is how Helios does fireworks don't mind him! You can probably run into him as he finishes off another display and is going to get some refreshments. Yep might want to watch were you're going, Helios has a track record of running into people. But Noctowl is there so it shouldn't be a problem, right? ]

[ Falkner's quick to spot the phoenix and follow its path with his eyes. He's never seen anything quite like that before! Sure, Ho-Oh is loosely comparable, but even then nothing can beat seeing something so close to him. For a split second he considers sending Noctowl after it to get a closer look... and then it exploded and Falkner is nothing but confused.

Luckily, Noctowl is as alert as ever and will call out to snap Falkner out of his daze right before Helios could run into him. All the apologies if it startles him, too. ] Ah... sorry about that.

[folklorist]

[ Not to worry there's a few flying around if the trail of light above their heads it indicative of it. Helios jumps, not really expecting the call that Noctowl lets out. Helios blinks and stops short before hitting into the other. ]

Ah! M-My apologies!

[flockingjustice]

Don't apologize! I should have been paying more attention to my surroundings... [ He looks up as if to say "I was too focused on looking at the sky"... but then he notices the trails and looks around more. Is there another one of those strange birds close-by? ]

[folklorist]

[ There are several things in the sky tonight, fireworks being one of them, and of course a light conjured phoenix or two leaving trails about them. But one of them is close by and Helios ducks his head just a little and laughs. ]

I-I can see why you would be! The f-fireworks are lovely tonight aren't they?!

[flockingjustice]

They are! I wasn't expecting something like this... [ Once again he looks around, his eyes following a phoenix once again. ] Though, I have to admit that's not what has my attention right now.

[Yellow, who is wandering around the village to wish her friends and acquaintances a happy new year, doesn't notice Falkner at first. Of course she doesn't even know him, so she wouldn't, anyway... But she looks over in his direction when Chuchu points in his direction, clearly because of the bird perched on his shoulder. ...A Noctowl? There's another trainer here?

So she's mainly just... kind of staring at him right now... trying to figure out whether or not she knows him.]

[ At first he feels that odd feeling that someone's watching him, which is easy enough to ignore. There's a lot of people around and he has a bird out in the open. Of course he's going to draw some attention.

But when Noctowl clenches its talons just enough so it convinces Falkner to turn around, there's absolutely no way he can't notice the girl with her Pikachu. He's momentarily torn between waving and just calling out to her, but instead he decides to approach. ] ... Greetings.

[..Yeah that staring was probably really awkward and Yellow feels bad for that. But seeing another Pokémon trainer around is rather surprising. And here she thought she knew all of the ones here in Luceti... Welp. Guess not. She starts to wonder if there are any others, but then he approaches her.]

Oh, hi! [...] Um... That's a uh... [..What's the name of that Pokémon again? Hoothoot? Wait, no.] Noctowl, right?

[ Falkner nods in confirmation. ] That's correct. It's a flying type from Johto.

And you have a Pikachu? [ He's no expert on anything but birds, but part of him would feel ashamed if he was wrong. ]

Ohh, I thought so. I have a few friends from Johto, so... [hmm... Wondering if Falkner knows them or not.

And then she nods.] Yep! Her name is Chuchu.

[flockingjustice]

[ It's worth asking! ] Chuchu's a nice name. I never really thought of nicknames for my own Pokemon.

TAKING THIS BLATANT EXCUSE TO HAVE THEM MEET

[Hey, Falkner. You like birds, right?

Well, here's one - a big bright red one, maybe a little reminiscent of a tiny Moltres with a more Doduo-like stance, trotting along the edges of the party. She's trying to get a good look at the fireworks, but it's hard when a guy and a giant owl are blocking your view.]

Hey! Owl-Guy! Mind movin' your bird aside a bit so I can actually see? Or maybe I should stand on your head!

O-oh! My apologies. [ He looks behind him as he steps to the side. Maybe taking Noctowl with him wasn't such a good idea--

Wait. That's a bird. Standing behind him. Talking to him.

... If he hadn't already met a talking lion, this would be much, much stranger than it already is. ] Is... is this good enough?

It was a magical opportunity :'D

[Okay, that's a bit better. Kazooie swaggers up into the space Falkner was occupying a moment before, seemingly oblivious to how rude that is.]

Works for me. [She casts a glance up at the man, looking a little more receptive now that she's gotten her way.] You always bring birds around with you when you go to parties?

Erm... sometimes, yes. [ How does he explain this too a bird without possibly being offensive? ] I... like birds.

[Hey, Kazooie can get behind this. Liking birds? Makes sense to her!]

Well, birds are the most awesome things ever! You'd have to be pretty dumb not to like 'em.
