I was just on my way to go grab action by the...horns? Tail? The jagged bits of eventfulness that stick out of action? I don't know.

[ a late-starter, really. she had dawdled in the camp once she had found it. thought perhaps that she might be hungry. craved a latte. and then finally got a start on heading into the fray and...well, that brings us snugly up to the right now. ] I'm guessing that's a no on the same question to you.

[He still hasn't made a move to get down off his tree, which is several feet above the ground. Jack does shift so that one leg dangles over the edge of the massive trunk, however. This must have been a very ancient tree when it fell.

No, not fell....cut. Some jagged saw had bit into it, he can see that now. Cut for no particular purpose, it would seem. Third Party?]

Nah; I'm here to guard the camp, not seek out action. I hope to see no action, none at all. I want no action.

[He twirls the orchid stem between his fingers.]

Guarding, huh? Good on you.

[ and then there will be no further responses as buffy sinks quietly to the ground and falls into a spontaneous nap. ]

BUFFY! [Well that gets him out of his tree. Jack leaps to the ground and is soon on his knees by her side. He lays three rather grubby fingers against the side of her neck to check for a pulse, and lays his head against her chest to listen for her heart. Waves his hand in front of her face. Strokes back her hair. Pokes her side.]

Annie? Annie, my love my darlin' one, wake up. It's like with Kennedy, I suspect. Wake up, lovely.

[ after a few moments of this prodding and coaxing, the slayer's eyes open again. blearily. there are splinters of light cutting through the leaves and they're interfering with her focus and she still feels so tired but... ]

What the -- [ she pushes one of his hands away, making space to rub at her eyes and try and sit up and...

Nonsense. If this were your dream, I'd be completely stark naked and reclining on a pile of rather decorative cushions, wouldn't I.

[He tries to help her with the sitting up part, keeping one hand at her back.]

Buffy? You are to go back to McCoy's camp. Now.

Completely star--[ she presses the heel of her palm against her forehead. kind of headachey, really. the kind of tired headaches she's only ever had after days and days of sleepless crisis management. her other hand knots itself up in his sleeve. ] No. Somehow? This is the more likely dream-candidate.

[ she's expecting the first slayer to pop up any minute. ] What's wrong with your face?

That first bit were the joking bit, Buffy, and that second bit were the command bit.

My face, child, is painted in the likeness of my former self, Chief Sparrow, Cannibal King. The eyes are for watchfulness and wisdom---the very wisdom of the ancients that now tells me to order you back to the camp. Immediate-like.

[ she never likes it when he calls her child. it's not the same as mccoy calling her kid. not at all. and this dislike shows on her face and spurs her on to greater heights of rebellion. ]

You can't just paint wisdom on your face and get all order-happy, Jack. [ it's her argument-voice but not the cold, steely one she had taken into use around the village.

she stares at him. ] My God, that's creepy.

Oh, I think I can. Captain, me. Creepy Captain, what's ordering you back to the village, Buffy Summers. You're not staying out here in that condition, savvy?

[And now he attempts to drag her to her feet.]

Not in that condition, fallin' asleep every five minutes. And alone? You left the camp alone?!

[He sounds...rather angry about that.]

[ the attempt isn't a tough one to make. she gains her feet rather easily, despite the creeping exhaustion. ]

It hasn't been every five minutes, Jack. That...that was the first time. I didn't -- of course I left the camp alone.

[ she hates it. not in that condition. hadn't she been in the thick of things the last time, with the shifters? and falling asleep was just about the same level of helplessness, in her sight. ]

The first time, aye. Unless you're falling asleep quite comfortably curled up in my hammock with me, Annie, with plenty of mosquito netting right over us, you are not to sleep in the jungle. Death awaits unwary jungle-sleepers.

[He stoops to pick up the orchid.]

she swallows the question and straightens what little hair had come free of the braid in the fall. ] So -- what? Your plan is to deliver me back to camp and tie me to Bones' apron strings? Nuh-uh.

[It was definitely an invitation. He tugs at her arm, trying to do that very drag-to-the-hospital thing that she doesn't want.]

Buffy, if you continue to resist my eye-wisdom, I shall hypowhatsit you in your sleep and tie you, there's a good girl.

...Hyposprays don't work on me. [ she BLUFFS. she actually has no idea -- although it takes a significant amount of tranquilizer to take a slayer out. it's still an experiment she doesn't want to try out.

she also stands very steadily. in place. resisting his tugs. ]

his face IS creepy. O_o

[He has stopped tugging, though. Instead he releases her and places the orchid in her hair.]

[ it'll be about the only dash of colour in this outfit -- she won't refuse it.

she does a very good job at not swaying. still...she argues: ] I'll sit guard with you first, for a bit. Then we can go back.

[ the truth of the matter is that she's too tired to make the walk to camp. ]

Golden crowns do not kings make. I think someone famous said that once, in ancient-ish times. Besides, the Pelegosto don't crown their kings; they take their skin off, one strip at a time.

[He settles down on his log once more, flicking away several beetles wandering along the top.]
