Darling, look, I think it's perfectly lovely and ruined and all, but whyfore need we map it? We'll all be sent home in a few days anyway...

Because we need to keep a record of as many detail as we can! There's not nearly enough time for a proper excavation, but if we could go further...

If we go further we both get to die together inside a cursed temple! I see, now, the sense of it, mistress!

[wise_maiden]

We're not going to die inside this temple!

[As her hand smacks against one of the crumbling walls for emphasis.



... And accidentally activates a spiked trap suddenly springing forth at them from the other side]

[What follows is the pirate diving for the sage, grabbing her, and hurling them both out of the way---one spike catches on the pirate's clothing, slashing it open and drawing a fine slash across his side. Just a flesh wound---AS LONG AS THE SPIKE IS NOT POISONED.]

[wise_maiden]

-- Jack?! [The appearance of the spikes followed by that rushed tumble to the ground at least worked to temporarily snap her out of her ruin mania.

She needs a few moments to catch her breath, before she notices the condition he's in. An open wound. Not good to have in a place like this.]


Are you-- I'm sorry.

[all7seas]

Raine? [He wipes a hand across his mouth before reaching down to gingerly touch his side. It feels......strangely cold. Not like a scratch should feel.] I don't want to die in a cursed temple, lass.

[wise_maiden]

You're not. [Firm about that. Just gathering her breath.] It seems I got a little carried away. Let me get a better look at your wound.

[all7seas]

It's just a scratch...

[He seems reluctant to let her see it.]

What if it's a cursed wound?

[wise_maiden]

If there's more to it than that, then I will take care of it. Now isn't the time for you to be hiding wounds.

[all7seas]

...Very well. [He is still uneasy in this temple, but the pirate gamely lifts his shirt so she can see it. It's a thin scratch but a rather long one, wrapping around his side.]

It feels...funny, like. Ish.

[wise_maiden]

Hmm... I should be able to seal this up with my healing arts. We're lucky that it's not deeper.

[She frowns, but holds her hand closer to the wound to begin the casting-- but then stops suddenly when nothing happens.] ... What? So there must be...

I suddenly feel...sullied and unusual, love.

[He sways, and falls.]

[wise_maiden]

... Poison. Damn it. [Right, well if her artes weren't working due to a Shifter being somewhere of 100 meters of them, it would force her to rely on basic first aid for now. Checking his pulse--to make sure he still had one--and hurredly going through her bag of supplies.

The bottles were still in there. Good. She takes out an elixer.]

Jack. [Trying to rouse him again now. Hopefully the Shifter would move further away so she could access her magic. That would be nice.] Jack, wake up.

[all7seas]

Mmmph. Just a few more minutes, my love; I'm havin' a wonderful dream.

[wise_maiden]

We might not have a few more minutes. Come on. [She'll try to pull him back up to a sitting position.] I need you to wake up.

[all7seas]

[He sort of sits and lolls against her, a gentle and faraway smile on his face. Jack is clearly Out Of It.]

You always make such wonderful plum cakes; a man couldn't ask for a more lovely wife. Couldn't. Lovely.

[wise_maiden]

[She frowns again at his words. This is worse than she thought. She tries to keep her voice even, trying to situate them both in a half-sitting position. Enough so that he wouldn't choke while trying. Slow.] ... Jack. Do you think you could drink something for me? It's your favorite, you know.

[all7seas]

My favorite? [He holds on to her with hands that are now trembling badly.]

[wise_maiden]

That's right. But you'll need to drink up all of it for me. It's very important.

[all7seas]

For you I would do it. I would, darling.

[wise_maiden]

It's a promise then. [She carefully brings the glass up to his mouth.

There's no real scent to it; it's medicinal, of course, and the taste would probably be unlike anything he's had before. Unless he remembers how the magic felt while healing him.]

... All right. Drink up.

[all7seas]

[His whole body is shaking, now, apparently with cold, although it is hot and humid in the jungle. Jack sips the liquid, but doesn't react to it as he does. He is staring off into the distance, acting now as though she is not even there.]

And later we'll drink the wine, and then...

Shhh. [She's trying hard to keep her own hands from shaking.] We'll have the wine later, but this is more important.
