[ ... Oh. Kohan doesn't say anything for a moment, but his gaze does go to Ion's face, watching carefully to see his expression. He's not sure how well Ion's been coping with Luke's departure, since they haven't really brought it up since it happened. ]

What makes something like those sacred?

[By all appearances, Ion seemed to be handling it well. It was the same as when Anise and Florian left -- he was sad for a little while, but then just stopped talking about it. Though it's hard to say for sure whether he's actually been able to move on, or if it's just a coping mechanism to deal with the loss.]

[Regardless, he takes the opportunity to turn the conversation around.]

They say that Yulia Jue, the founder of the Order of Lorelei, made a pact with the cheagles and gained their aid long ago. That's why they're considered one of the symbols of the Order. Though I admit I've never looked into the actual details surrounding it myself...

[...one of the cheagles sitting on Ion's shoulder is staring at Kohan intently. Like a cat getting ready to pounce.]

[ Yeah about a third of the way through that Kohan notices that cheagle. Why are you looking at him like that. You're not going to eat him are you. ]

Is that one on your shoulder alright?

Hm? You mean this one--

[As soon as Ion turns to look at the cheagle in question, it hops off of Ion's shoulder and over towards Kohan, clinging to the front of his shirt with a soft "Mieu!"]

[Aww, look, it thought Kohan looked lonely and wanted some cheagle hugs too!]

... Yeah. This one.

[ Kohan reluctantly picks it up and holds it in front of him like a guy who's just been handed a puppy and doesn't know what to do with it.

...

What does he do with it? ]

[The cheagle struggles a bit when he holds it out like that -- in contrast to the way Ion has the two cheagles he's holding cradled in his arms, this was much more uncomfortable!]

Oh, perhaps you shouldn't hold it like that, it doesn't look like it likes--

[Yeah, it's just going to start puffing out little flames towards Kohan -- not enough to actually reach him, but more than enough to be noticeable.]

[ Wait, what is it doing, is it p--that's fire

To his credit, Kohan doesn't drop the thing, or throw it, or do any of those things that instinct dictates he should do when he's holding something that's spitting fire at him.

He instead very calmly squawks in surprise, turns the cheagle around in his hands, and points it in a direction that is towards neither himself nor Ion. ]

[Oops, did he forget to mention cheagles breathe fire? Yeah, he forgot to mention cheagles breathe fire.]

[He quickly lets the two cheagles he was holding hop back down to the ground before going up to the cheagle in Kohan's arms, patting it on the head.]

Calm down, it'll be okay. He's not going to hurt you.

[...the cheagle does seem to calm down a bit, or at least stops breathing fire, once Ion is patting it. Ion may not be able to communicate with monsters like Arietta can, but cheagles were highly intelligent -- they, at least, could be reasoned with.]

You... You never said they could do that!

I'm sorry, it's been awhile since I've seen Mieu, so I must have gotten so excited that I forgot to mention it. But they don't usually use their fire unless they feel threatened by something.

[Or if they're a child who can't properly control it, like Mieu. Either way, a fire breathing cheagle wasn't really enough to scare Ion.]

[ Kohan is only scared because there's twenty billion of them swarming his boyfriend okay. ]

I... can leave, if I'm going to cause an issue...

[ HE WILL LEAVE YOU WITH THE LITTLE FIRESTARTERS IF IT MEANS THEY WON'T FIRESTART ON YOU ]

What?

[Kohan, look at this face you just caused your boyfriend to make. Though admittedly it's a bit more exaggerated than usual given that the very thought of Kohan leaving him here alone is suddenly making him very uncomfortable.]

No, you don't have to... that is, if you're not enjoying yourself here, we could go somewhere else?

No! I just meant... I don't think they like me.

[ ION DON'T MAKE THAT FACE... ]

...actually, I think it just didn't like the way you were holding it.

[The frown goes away once he's sure that Kohan isn't going to leave, though he's still a bit more subdued than before. He reaches out to take the cheagle from Kohan, cradling it in his arms. The cheagle looks content.]

See? You just need to support their whole body, so they don't feel like you're going to drop or throw them.

[...or it could be that this particular cheagle just decided it likes Ion better. It's hard to tell.]

[ Well they probably ALL like Ion better... ]

Maybe I'll just... leave holding them to you.

[ He can stand here making sure Ion doesn't get lit on fire. ]

Ah, all right.

[He can hardly complain about being surrounded by so many cheagles right now. It reminded him of Auldrant, but not in the same painful way thinking about "home" used to feel. Instead, it was just pleasant.]

But are you sure you aren't bored here? I wouldn't mind going somewhere else for a little while if you'd still like to explore.

Not too much... though I think, I'd like to go back to Thrill Land some... if you'd be alright with that.

That sounds fine by me. I actually haven't been to that part yet myself.

[He gently sets the cheagle down on the ground with the others, and then crouches down to let the two riding on his shoulder climb down. As soon as he straightens up, he moves to take Kohan's hand. That puts the smile back on his face in full-form again.]

So, let's go!

[ Kohan still has that half a moment of awkwardness when Ion takes his hand, but he doesn't pull back at all. Just does his best to hide it with a good-natured roll of his eyes and gives Ion's hand a small squeeze. ]

It's actually... a lot like Luceti Land. Just... more people.

Oh, really? Do you suppose they have some of the same games that Luceti Land had?

[Ion's mind doesn't immediately jump to the roller coasters when he thinks of Luceti Land -- instead, his mind is on the games and some of the smaller rides they had that weren't so terrible. Though they should probably skip the house of mirrors if they have one.]

Perhaps if we tried playing one this time, we might be able to win something on the first try? [You know, since last time Kohan still had claws and all.]

[Though Ion will probably still be just as terrible as he was before.]

[ Yeah... those were a thing too. ]

Maybe not the first try, but... I don't think it'll take as long as last time, at least.

We can only hope. [With a soft laugh.]

You know, I still have that cheagle doll you won for me last time. Maybe this time I can win you something?

... You do?

[ WELL GOSH NOW THAT'S JUST EMBARRASSING I mean they weren't even going out then or anything. ]

Well, maybe. Guess it's always worth a shot, right?

Of course I do. You didn't think I would have just thrown it away, did you? [If Kohan thinks hard enough, he might even recall seeing it in Ion's room, since he usually kept it on or near his desk.]

[He gives Kohan's hand a soft squeeze.]

[Because hey, look, they're crossing over into Thrill Land now!]

Well, I've been wanting to ride that.

[ Is he pointing to one of the big coasters? I do think he is. ]
