Long Ago In A Distant Land, Akai, the fully functional fonbot, unleashed a fairly standard mod post. But a foolish player kept asking questions and come on, do you really need to know that much? Now everyone wants to play out their ships and get into fruit shenanigans and undo to evil that is AKAI.

OH YEAH! So like, assume there is stands (or you know, beach-appropriate huts) here and there that are stocked up on bathing suits (and curtains you can change behind), stands with beverages, and snacks. Nobody's really operating them, new stuff just gets Shifted there (BUT ONLY IF YOU'RE NOT WATCHING). The Malnosso are the most considerate bro-ginization ever.

"Parties? Out here?" In his mind, a party was a feast. And that meant dressing up. And this was hardly the sort of place you'd dress up. Not with people swimming like this.

[herotypical]

"Campfires," she nudged him gently with an elbow. "Smores. Hot-dogs on sticks. Maybe someone plucking away at a guitar in rolled up pants and an unbuttoned shirt."

[arturius]

"It sounds terribly exciting. But not exactly like any party I know." More like the sort of thing he'd do with his knights while traveling. Which in his opinion was more enjoyable than a big banquet anyway, even if the food wasn't as good.

[herotypical]

She bit through the skin on another slice of fruit.

"Consider it another learning experience. Come the first real summer's day? Expect your invite in the mail."

[arturius]

"We have mail here now, do we?" It was less skepticism and more of a surprisingly playful jab on his part. It must be the fruit.

[herotypical]

"Figuratively. Really, it'll just be me bullying Jack into slipping envelopes under doors."

[arturius]

"So you're his slayer. And he's your messenger."

[herotypical]

"He's not my anything. Well -- he's my friend."

This week, her heart belongs to Liz Swann. "Though I guess he's also my...Captain."

[arturius]

Even in his right mind, he did not know enough to really question it. So with another bite into some juicy fruit, he shrugged. "Hopefully he lives up to that, once we set sail."

[herotypical]

"Oh. He will. He's -- God, Arthur? He's excellent at what he does. Pirate or no. The man knows his way around a boat. Ship. Whatever."

It was possibly a good thing that Arthur didn't know enough to question it because -- awkwardly -- Buffy was far more ready to praise and compliment and gush over Jack-the-friend than Jack-the-lover.

[arturius]

"Well, let's hope he knows his way around an ocean as well as he does his boat." He believed her, though. Maybe it was the fruit. Maybe he just didn't think she was one to exaggerate someone's ability. Or maybe he was just really gullible.

[herotypical]

"Mmhm. It almost seems...natural. Him and the water. He knows it like I know -- va...trendy handbags."

Buffy offered a final piece to Arthur. "What'd you say to him to talk him into taking you?"

[arturius]

"I think it's less what I said and more who I am." He turned the bit of fruit around in his fingers for a moment. "Or at least, who he and everyone else supposes that I am." He finished off the last bit.

[herotypical]

"Funny. He once told me -- with all kinds of relish -- about how he once turned down a king."

Of course, that wasn't a king of Arthur's caliber. "Feeling the pressure though, huh?"

[arturius]

Certainly it would be something Jack relished, wouldn't it? "No more than I have dealt with my entire life. This is little different."

[herotypical]

"Chosen," she muttered. "And everything's different here. No matter what we were at home."

[arturius]

"Well there's less speeches, certainly." But there was the pervasive fact that so many people seemed to know him as this great King Arthur. Somehow he felt he didn't quite measure up to their expectations.

[herotypical]

"You had to do the speeches too, huh?"

[arturius]

"And write them too. I liked it better when I only needed to use rousing speeches for the sake of my men. Short and to the point."

[herotypical]

"Wait -- you write yours down? Maybe I should try that out sometime. Does it help?"

[arturius]

"That depends. Are you in the habit of presiding over little rituals and festivities you know nothing about?"

[herotypical]

Her elbow stayed next to his; sitting cozy. Happy.

"Uhm...no. Touché. Anyway -- I'm with you on the rousing speeches. To the point. Short. Hopefully inspiring, if it can be managed. That's my bag, too."

Although one might not ever believe so had they never witnessed one of her speeches.

[arturius]

It would certainly be less cozy once he'd realized what he was doing before. But for now, it was certainly comfortable. He didn't really mind delving into his own life with her. She was like an old friend.

"Your bag. How exactly did you acquire this 'bag' of having to make speeches? Too many drunk patrons?"

[herotypical]

"Buffy the Drink Pourer mostly just has to shout at losers who can't hold their liquor. Buffy the Vampire Slayer, though? A little more with the speechifying."

The truth -- whole, complete, not danced around -- tumbled out with surprising ease. Warm simplicity; inspired, perhaps, by the sun. Or the citrus.

"Apparently leadership takes charisma. Who knew?"

[arturius]

He knew about the Slayer part. He didn't know what it meant, beyond the fact he suspected that she went around killing things. The vampire part was new. "And who exactly do you lead if vampires are such a nuisance?"

It wasn't obvious, but it was a jab at the fact she was a slayer of a specific thing. Arthur? Arthur killed all kinds of weird stuff.
