Event Log - Total Recall

Who: You and you and mostly me and you
What: Everyone's been Shifted in their own way
When: A hero doesn't care if this event last a whole ten days
Where: Everyone can blaze a hero's trail
Summary: It's that special time when the Malnosso collect all their recent experiments and apply them all at once to measure effectiveness. Although invaluable as research, it tends to leave the subjects looking just a bit mad.

So there is a mod post and it pretty much tells you EVERYTHING you need to know. This is a mass log for people to comment around on if they don't want to make posts. Or even if they want to make posts anyway. There will be at least one more of these later in the event! ENJOY!

[The words hang heavily as he looks over at Adele, carefully studying her face in her newfound body. The nuances were different, but it was close enough.]

Why didn't you do it before? It would have saved all of us a lot of heartache.

[He scrubs his face with his hands, massaging the bridge of his nose. The migraine was going to be growing steady for the rest of the day at this rate.]

Because he didn't need to read something like that. It would have made it worse for both of you. You're present enough in him to make anything she wrote more difficult in this- because you love her. It complicates things best left simple.

You didn't read it yourself, did you?

[Because, if she had, it would have prevented a lot of their trouble.]

I don't remember writing it- everything else of the shifts I recall. She didn't want me to know what's in it- so I didn't read it.

...and yet you didn't do what she did want you to do. Very well.

[Sighing heavily, he stands and dusts off his skirt...and speaks. The tone and accent he uses isn't his as he recites the letter from memory, but Levarre's--as a spy, he's had to learn to be a mimic. With Lupin's skills in disguise, that skillset is made even sharper.

He looks away when he's done, even with the anecdote at the end.]

You see now? Whatever...this is, it's not a bad thing. It would have stopped a lot of heartache from the beginning if you had just handed it over.

She was, is, selfish and manipulative- I don't credit her with much by way of knowing what would be best in this situation.

[To think there were shades of that in any degree within himself was disconcerting at best. Adele owns up to his selfish moments- but he has never been manipulative.

Between this and the rather impeccable mimicry of Levarre's voice as Red recites the letter verbatim, Adele's gone quiet. Fairly reserved and wholly stern- as he was accused of being.]

This shouldn't have happened, but it did. Perhaps it would have been better to hand the letter over immediately, perhaps not. We'll never know for certain how he would have taken it. You didn't see him afterward Red.

I was there, Adele.

[It was exactly what he meant when he said that the switch off hadn't been smoothe. There was a day or so there when his personality and emotions broke through the filter. Both of them were confused, and trying to adjust.]

But you're right. We'll never know. Do what you want, but don't take the smiles away. When I said he thinks of you as a friend? I meant it. It was months coming too--he debated on everything, talked his thoughts over with Smoker...

he only hesitated because of your terrible luck. He didn't want to put you in any more danger than you would have found yourself. This last...incident. You are aware that he would have started a war over that, right? He wouldn't do that for just anyone, and it's not because of me. He'd do that for all of his friends, the Inspector included.

[And that was the crux of the problem. Red bleeding through, lingering, seeing things Lupin might either ignore or gloss over. He had been entirely too calm on the roof- too hesitant to take something he'd normally steal without a thought. Permission. Thieves don't ask for permission.

It's almost unfair to him, to lock away so much of his Goldie. And at the same time Adele cannot let the woman bleed through- echoes here and there but the bulk of her was gone. Left to whatever reality she'd come from, for better or for worse.]

...I do have a talent for being in the exact wrong place at the exact wrong time. I'm surprised something similar hadn't happened sooner, honestly. [He massages the bridge of her nose and looks back over to Red. After a long, thoughtful moment, he extends an arm.]

I only know of two other men in my life that would do the same. Both weren't around often enough for it to count.

Your 'Lupin' back home and someone else. [Because all Leblancs had a Lupin in some form or another-surely she had one before they met. He grasps her hand firmly, visibly relaxing for the first time that afternoon. Part of the weight that burdened him was gone, and he wasn't certain how he felt.

The fact that Goldie returned those feelings was enough, even if it could never culminate into anything. Like the relationship between Adele and Lupin.]

He wants to be there like he is for all of his friends, but he's only a man. He can't be everywhere. Please, do us both a favor and learn to defend yourself better. Practice the Makashi, keep that hairpin with you.

...he trusts your intelligence. Don't make him regret it.

[Dangerous men with dangerous tricks, that taught the tricks to people they wanted to keep safe. He hasn't thought about them in a long while, not really. He misses them but. He's still a little angry with them.

It's set aside in favor of tugging on Red's hand, nodding back down to the sofa right next to him. He's worn, that much Adele can see easily. By what, he doesn't know. But he does want to help.]

Levarre took time to record the bulk of what I would need to know with our video camera the past two days- and I've continued my lessons with Smoker and Ben. The day Lupin gave me the hairpin I sharpened it to a point. I'll not be caught off guard again. None of us can afford it.

[Red hesitates for a beat before succumbing to Adele's silent request, curious about her reasons. He doesn't ask, however, and seats himself far enough away to not cause any discomfort.]

That's good; use your resources. Lupin is relying on you with the Fountain, to keep everything going smoothly. If everything goes well? Give it another month.

[Well, it's a step in the right direction. Adele gives it a moment before sliding over and looping his arm around Red's shoulders. It's only a little awkward with the height difference, but this is all he knows to offer.

...even if it did come across as something out of a bad romantic comedy. The yawn and reach, or something like that. He needs to watch fewer movies.]

My first real heist. Well. Heist I'll be intentionally involved in, at least.

[The casual touch was the exact thing that was causing the problems she was concerned about, if they could rightfully be called problems. Red liked the physical contact, but resisted snuggling closer to Adele. That was her request as he understood it.]

You'll do fine at it. Lupin's bringing in reinforcements too, so you don't need to worry about failure.

It's less failure and more 'Please don't let me be so unlucky to end up in the fountain when it's lifted by balloons.' Because from what I understand panic attacks in the middle of a heist aren't terribly productive.

[Levarre and LeBlanc alike are tactile individuals, though Levarre far more than LeBlanc. It's through causal affections like this that he expresses solidarity, since words often fail to articulate his exact meaning. It was offered, and accepted, and that was that. He hopes.]

Then again Lupin did promise to keep me on the ground, so perhaps I should not worry.

You'll be on the ground if everything goes as planned. You don't need to worry.

[It was only if things went against plan that there would be problems, and not just for Adele. After a moment of continued contact, Red inches a little closer and settles in. A moment of silence passes awkwardly before he looks over at Adele.]

You can return the favor it you want. I did it often enough to Goldie.

How often do things go as planned, here?

[It's a bittersweet laugh that follows, but a laugh nonetheless. But backup plans for backup plans, that's what Lupin normally has, right? He won't worry. He'll just be content to kind of snuggle here with red, rubbing his arm with a long fingered hand.]

[What was Red on about?]

[With a sudden smile, Red reaches around Adele to pull her masculine body into his feminine embrace, using the difference in their height to have Adele faceplant into his chest, letting her meet his body the way he met Goldie's not infrequently.]

...that. And things will go as planned--trust me.

Red what are you-mmph!

[Suddenly- breasts. In his face. Or rather his face in breasts and what on earth is the appeal to this? It just feels a little awkward and soft and warm and Red smells a little like flowers but that is probably the shirt and if this was really uncomfortable he'd have moved back by now, wouldn't he? Right. So. Turning head. Adele rests his cheek against Red's chest and snorts a soft laugh, mostly at himself.]

I do. With my life.

Good.

[He loosens his grip--just enough for Adele to pull back if she chooses, and looks down at her with gently amused eyes.]

If that's the kind of thing you're worried about? Don't be. Lupin likes physical contact. You don't know even half of the things he's done with Jigen!

[For the moment? Adele is comfy enough to loop his arms around Red's waist and settle against him. He could almost see the appeal of this- if only for the sake of contact.]

[It was the simplicity of it that settled Red, with the knowledge that there was only one life in the room that he needed to be an anchor for. That was enough got his concerns to fade enough for him to just chat. Fujiko would come later. Much later.

She was going to be the hardest to talk to.]

Just imagine it--they have an international bromance that's lasted for a few decades now. Close friends can get very physical too, you know.

[Levarre drifts on any currant or eddy that comes her way. LeBlanc doesn't really need anchors. He's grateful for the offer, though but. Knows well enough the look of someone that needs to lean on someone else for a change.]

Why you say physical, do you mean casual contact such as this- or do you mean to say they have gotten bored and slept with one another?

Just casual contact like this--Lupin and Jigen would never--

[He breaks off into a smile at the though, and chuckles. Doubtless, there were people the world over that wondered the same about the two of them and their hijinks.]

Even Luke appreciates a hug every once in a while, you know. He's free with them too. There can be touches and no romance.

I am asking to ask- I've no assumptions on the matter. They seem more like brothers than anything else.

[And by this point in their lives they might as well be- if everything she's heard about their exploits from Jigen is true.]

That much I know, Remy, my Remy and I are quite openly affectionate with one another. It's a side effect of having known him my entire life.

They are brothers. They're a family, all four of them. [For as strange, awkward, and even violent their interactions, they were as much a family as any of them had. Like how Luke and everyone were family to him, bonds that surpass the ties of blood and name exist in every world that he's been on.]

You understand it then, with your Remy. You know how important these things are. [The same was true in Luceti--Goldie was right. Lupin and Adele were good for each other.]
