Where: Out on the beach, centered around the teleporter/tunnel exit area. But it feels like July out there! Ain't that just the shit?

Long Ago In A Distant Land, Akai, the fully functional fonbot, unleashed a fairly standard mod post. But a foolish player kept asking questions and come on, do you really need to know that much? Now everyone wants to play out their ships and get into fruit shenanigans and undo to evil that is AKAI.

OH YEAH! So like, assume there is stands (or you know, beach-appropriate huts) here and there that are stocked up on bathing suits (and curtains you can change behind), stands with beverages, and snacks. Nobody's really operating them, new stuff just gets Shifted there (BUT ONLY IF YOU'RE NOT WATCHING). The Malnosso are the most considerate bro-ginization ever.

"Hmm? No. Not yet. Want some?"

She was already tearing the flesh of the fruit in half. It was just shy of ripe and looked like it would be a little sweet.

"I mean, since we're going to crew together -- no matter how briefly -- I guess we should learn to share."

[arturius]

Arthur spared a glance at his abandoned fruit, now covered in sand and Buffy's disgusting feet germs. Well, it was share or go find his own. Given he might not like it at all, it was better to sample than waste an entire fruit.

"That sounds fair. I'll just have a slice." Retrieving a small knife from his belt, he used it to cut himself off a small slice. Nice and clean and incredibly manly. The Arthurian way.

[herotypical]

"Suit yourself." She cupped her fingers around the treat as he sliced his piece; wrinkling her nose as she felt the juice run down her thumb and pool in the palm of her hand. Buffy was not so neat as Arthur was and certainly not as neat as she had been back during their last conversation at Spike's. And she wasn't ashamed to lick her fingers clean.

A light hum. "Not so bad, actually. Bet it'd make a mean jar of preserves. Someone should get on that -- these sorts of things don't last for long. Usually."

[arturius]

Tasty. Very tasty. He looked rather satisfied after eating his small piece. In fact, he could easily go for another slice of it. If Buffy wasn't being so messy about it, anyway.

"These sort of things?" He frowned a bit, his mind wandering back to his first thoughts when he walked out on the beach. "These trees weren't here when I visited the beach before. They shouldn't be here at all."

[herotypical]

A slight smile as she held the fruit out -- willing him to take more. Perhaps even nudging his wrist with the back of her hand as she did so.

"Shifts. This has Shift written all over it. Sometimes they have a kind of...celebratory appeal to them. I don't know what this one's celebrating though. Other than every person's deep-down wish to be anywhere but in a winter wonderland."

[arturius]

Normally this level of enchantment would make him wary. Not that it didn't, but the fruit was very good and he was already slicing off another bit of it, thanks to her subtle invitation to do so.

"It's good to know they can at least sometimes make good use of their powers."

[herotypical]

"...That's the conundrum. They're not always about bringing the pain. Or at least -- they don't seem to be. Don't get me wrong. I have a real hate-on for the Malnosso but -- things aren't cut and dry."

Buffy hooked her foot around a bulky piece of driftwood and hauled it close. She sat down on one edge and invited Arthur to sit with her.

[arturius]

He hesitated for a moment about joining her, thinking to himself what Saber would think. But it was innocent enough and it was certainly better than standing. So rather than keep melting in the sun, he parted with his long coat and folded it up to set between them. A safety cushion between them, if you will.

"Well, so far this is all I've seen out of them. So I suppose I can't complain."

[herotypical]

"And it gives you a pretty little peek at what the summers might be like. Minus the, y'know, palm trees."

[arturius]

"Well, if it's like this come summer, I won't mind the wait." A far cry from the Arthur who didn't want to wait for winter to be over to go sailing.

[herotypical]

"Huh. Are you a beachy kinda guy? We have parties. Sometimes. Out here."

[arturius]

"Parties? Out here?" In his mind, a party was a feast. And that meant dressing up. And this was hardly the sort of place you'd dress up. Not with people swimming like this.

[herotypical]

"Campfires," she nudged him gently with an elbow. "Smores. Hot-dogs on sticks. Maybe someone plucking away at a guitar in rolled up pants and an unbuttoned shirt."

[arturius]

"It sounds terribly exciting. But not exactly like any party I know." More like the sort of thing he'd do with his knights while traveling. Which in his opinion was more enjoyable than a big banquet anyway, even if the food wasn't as good.

[herotypical]

She bit through the skin on another slice of fruit.

"Consider it another learning experience. Come the first real summer's day? Expect your invite in the mail."

[arturius]

"We have mail here now, do we?" It was less skepticism and more of a surprisingly playful jab on his part. It must be the fruit.

[herotypical]

"Figuratively. Really, it'll just be me bullying Jack into slipping envelopes under doors."

[arturius]

"So you're his slayer. And he's your messenger."

[herotypical]

"He's not my anything. Well -- he's my friend."

This week, her heart belongs to Liz Swann. "Though I guess he's also my...Captain."

[arturius]

Even in his right mind, he did not know enough to really question it. So with another bite into some juicy fruit, he shrugged. "Hopefully he lives up to that, once we set sail."

[herotypical]

"Oh. He will. He's -- God, Arthur? He's excellent at what he does. Pirate or no. The man knows his way around a boat. Ship. Whatever."

It was possibly a good thing that Arthur didn't know enough to question it because -- awkwardly -- Buffy was far more ready to praise and compliment and gush over Jack-the-friend than Jack-the-lover.

[arturius]

"Well, let's hope he knows his way around an ocean as well as he does his boat." He believed her, though. Maybe it was the fruit. Maybe he just didn't think she was one to exaggerate someone's ability. Or maybe he was just really gullible.

[herotypical]

"Mmhm. It almost seems...natural. Him and the water. He knows it like I know -- va...trendy handbags."

Buffy offered a final piece to Arthur. "What'd you say to him to talk him into taking you?"

[arturius]

"I think it's less what I said and more who I am." He turned the bit of fruit around in his fingers for a moment. "Or at least, who he and everyone else supposes that I am." He finished off the last bit.

[herotypical]

"Funny. He once told me -- with all kinds of relish -- about how he once turned down a king."

Of course, that wasn't a king of Arthur's caliber. "Feeling the pressure though, huh?"
