Last week, I went to Tokyo. Is Nishinomiya like that?

[She opens her mouth to say "are you joking?" and the incredulity shows on her face. But she reigns that in before coming up with a more diplomatic response]

Way different. For one, Tokyo's in Kanto, Nishinomiya's Kansai. We're in totally different regions of the country. Those Kantoites are all flair and style, obsessed with spending money and wouldn't know how to save a yen to save their life.

...But. I guess we're closer than Tokyo is to your world. Even if Tokyo's about twenty-five times more the number of people.

It's just - the person I went with. He thinks that being from where he's from makes it so that a lot of people look at what he does as something wrong.

[She's not saying this as well as she'd like.]

Do you think it's like that? That people just don't understand because their worlds are too different?

[Haruhi thinks a moment. About her struggles with Winry and her values. They haven't come to their conclusion (yet) but she knows they are coming. She sees it every time Winry happens to mention kids. She sees it every time Winry has an experiment that reminds her she's a rural girl.]

...It's not exclusively that, of course not. We're still humans, after all, and all humans have the same basic needs. And there are a lot of similarities here and there. But... [Inhale, exhale] That does happen. It is real that people won't understand each other because of that.

[She'll never understand that... ecchi manga, for instance.]

[Haruhi just sits here though. Not expectant, really, just watching Katara with genuinely concerned eyes. Katara's a proud girl. She wouldn't have come in if she wasn't genuinely hurting. She considers offering to make tea. She will if there isn't more said in a moment]
