New Year's brings images of crowds, and songs, and fireworks; staying up til midnight and watching balls or bells being rung. But Luceti is a different time and place. Whether you're partying with friends or watching the sunrise, what are you doing today?

Party! That's what one (1) Caroline Forbes intended on doing. Despite having been ripped away from home, life here hadn't been all that bad.

There had been downs, of course, namely Elena's absence and the battles she'd been forced to participate in, but it wasn't like any of those kidnapping or alien abduction movies she'd seen, which was what she'd been expecting the place to be like upon arrival. It was far from that, and never in her wildest dreams did she think she could actually go public about being a vampire (accidental and unintentional or not) and not be chased through town by a bunch of crazies wielding pitchforks, torches, and stakes. She's got a boyfriend, friends, and she's actually getting along with her mother, slowly working their way through the bumps in their complicated, often nonexistent, relationship.

It's a pretty good way to end the year. God knows things could've been so much worse.

She can be found lingering near the fountain, wearing something slightly ridiculous, waiting for the fireworks to start.

[Much like how Christmas passed uneventfully, Ayumu intended to weather out New Years by himself, too. Except early bedtimes haven't suited him much since he died, and the lights and sound coming from the direction of the square finally drew him out of the house. He might as well look around for a while.

Right now, he's staring at Caroline. More specifically, her legs.]

[Rydia knows Kain isn't fond of crowds, nor is she able to make him mingle this time. She's all for staying up until the New Year, though, and seeing the fireworks. When it gets close to that time, she quickly throws together some food and drink, gathers a couple of warm blankets, and warps to the roof to await him there.

Of course, other friends and family are free to notice her location or accompany her there, as well. This is an evening for friends and family, and she's happy to provide them with a good view of the festivities.]

[It's a simple matter of a leap up to the roof, and Kain is up there to join her. He gives her that semi-smile he always saves for her as he approaches.]

In all honesty, Liz had almost skipped the party entirely and probably would hsve if not for a handful of factors: 1) she needed and wanted to make sure Caroline would have a good night tonight and be safe and 2) she needed to show the rest of the town that she was serious about protecting the people. This was Liz's job and she wouldn't forgo that for anything, not even a change of location.

So, for the most part Liz hung out on the edges, not willing to be completely involved in the party, but not wanting to be exactly not involved, either. She was wearing a long coat and warm pants, a far cry from her uniform, but the closest thing she could come up with at the moment.

People lurking around the edges of things tended to get Glitch's attention, especially when they were in his age bracket because so, so many people in the village appeared to be...not. Plus, hey, he needed to meet people.

"Hi!" he said with a wide smile and a vague little wave. Friendly! Nice! Yay! "Name's Glitch and...um. What is going on?"

He likes parties and festiveness, he's just...a little bemused.

Despite having just arrived again a month ago, Hermione wanted to see the new year off properly. That and... she really needed to talk to some people again, face-to-face. She'd come to realize how much she'd missed the friends she had made here and having a second chance like this right before the new year was really boosting her mood.

So, as imagined, she was there, hanging out everywhere and generally being a social butterfly. Her outfit was warm, a long coat, a warm shirt, pants, and boots. With gloves, likely, and a jar of her infamous bluebell flames for warmth if needed. She is open to talking to anyone.

[ Helios is taking a break from his fireworks display. He will be walking around talking to people in the interim though. He'll spot Hermione sometime later in the evening giving a warm smile. ]

At Seventh Heaven and Cloud Nine :: Brackets or prose!

Some good food, live entertainment, and a firework show at the end; the perfect combination for any party. Ginia's a happy hostess as she moves between Seventh Heaven and Cloud Nine, checking on the food and making sure everything's moving smoothly, mingling with the guests, working a few shifts behind the bar, or performing on stage. Busy? Naturally, but it's the good kind of busy and she wouldn't have it any other way.

It's been an interesting year. She never would have imagined she'd spend the latter part of the year in some village in the middle of everything, finding peace of mind and happiness she thought had escaped. A wonderful boyfriend, great friends, a proper home... it's a nice way to end the year.

He never considered himself to be a contemplative man, but Lupin couldn't help it at this point. After nearly two months of wandering through and investigating this strange, wierd place that he found himself in, the mind reaches a point where it has to stop and consider everything. The coming of a New Year was another ocassion that encouraged reminiscing and making blind promises, usually while under the heady guidance of champagne.

But this wasn't a champagne night for him. He wandered into Seventh Heaven with a different drink in mind. Most of his friends were already in Luceti when he arrived....except one. The one he usually partnered with and relied upon the most.

The last two months had been spend pointedly not thinking about this. It was time to fix this. After a few drinks, of course.

It was in this mindset that he sidled up to the bar. He needed jazz. He needed a strong drink.

[He hadn't intended to stay outside for long tonight; just to check out the festivities and then head home. But the lights and the snowdrifts end up grabbing his attention. It's very cold, but close to midnight, he's sitting off to the side of the square, staring up at the sky and thinking.

Almost a full year in this place. A year without his house full of crazy girls and crazier hijinks. It's been so long that that the insanity that had so briefly seemed normal to him felt distant, as though it had happened to another 'him' entirely.

...He misses it.]

[ Madoka has been sticking around Homura a lot - especially since the girl only recently surfaced again after having been gone for a while - but there's a point where she ends up wandering off on her own, maybe to see some of her friends.

... Instead she finds a guy sitting there alone, looking like he's thinking. ]

[It's a little surreal now that Pao-lin thinks about it. When she'd been taken to Luceti, she'd practically just finished celebrating the Western New Year back in Sternbild, and the Chinese New Year had been coming up pretty soon. And now here she is in Luceti, already greeting a new year.

She's only been in Luceti for less than four months, but with everything that's happened everything feels simultaneously too long and too short. She kinda misses the fancy New Year's TV specials and being out with the rest of Sternbild to ring in the New Year...but she thinks she prefers being in Luceti now, with more friends than she had back home and wandering around at will. And as small as Luceti is, there's still enough people to make things interesting.

You can catch Pao-lin for about an hour or so helping out with serving food at the party at Seventh Heaven. Ginia had said that she could wear whatever she felt most comfortable with, but Pao-lin thought that she should at least try to dress up a little bit for the occasion, especially because she was helping out with the party. Of course, this is Pao-lin we're talking about, so her version of dressing up involves less actual dresses and more donning this snappy ensemble, paired with her usual flower hairpin. (No, she didn't tie that tie herself; it's a clip-on tie.)

Afterwards, she'll either be indulging in the food herself or just wandering around trying to find friends to talk to and welcome the new year with. She definitely wants to stay up to see the fireworks.]

[Ginia approaches Pao-lin with a happy wave and a smile, being the bubbly hostess of the evening. It's a good night, people are enjoying themselves, everything is going smoothly, for once, Ginia isn't worried about a thing.]

[Another new year already, it felt like he'd been in Luceti forever, and damn it's cold out here too! He doesn't intend to stick around for long, but it's nice to everyone gathered to celebrate. He had already decided to just stick around for a few drinks and some fireworks, then go curl up drunk on the floor back at the house.

[Oh hey thar. Yeager heads over to greet Raven, smiling as usual and looking cheerfully unaffected by the cold. The fact that he's been sipping cocktails for a little while now might be helping with that.]

[The one way to get Yukari outside in the middle of winter is for a festival of some sort, and that's certainly what she's found herself as part of. Of course, since Yukari is the basically embodiment of every bad Gensokyo habit around, she's pretty much instantly gone for the drinks. Not the tea or punch, no, she's got herself what looks to decidedly be a couple bottles of sake, though she's by herself for the moment.]

[And one slayer is walking down the street, observing what everyone else is doing and then... this. It smells interesting, and not quite like other things she's encountered here before. she blinks, and then looks to the woman sitting there]

[So, the first New Year at Luceti. Mulder spends some of the evening alone in his place just thinking things over, before he realizes he really ought to actually partake in some kind of celebration. It's not like he can turn on the TV and see "Catherine's Rocking New Year" or some such. ...He's not so sure he'd want to anyway.]

[So he'll eventually make his way off to see what sort of gathering is happening out there. He's doing his best to mingle tonight! He'll of course be around watching fireworks when those go off.]

[Ami isn't much for crowds, either, so when she isn't busy being tugged along by Usagi anyway, she's been keeping to quieter, out of the way places. Which... makes it no real surprise that she runs into Mulder. She gives him a smile and a quick dip of her head.]

[Vincent is on the fringe of the main celebration for the night, but he is around. More or less. He always likes to keep an eye out in case anything... happens. A new year is a time for something disastrous to befall them after all. But so far all is well... When it comes time for the actual moment of the year changing over he'll be standing alone with arms folded, quietly observing.]

[It takes Grune a little while to notice him, since she isn't exactly the most observant of people, but at some point during the evening, she'll definitely be wandering over.]

[So another 'new' year by the Lucetian calendar. This one has been... better than most, for Kain.]

[He's spending the evening on rooftops, whether it's his own, or jumping between various others to compare the views. He prefers to reflect about things from a high vantage point as always. He won't be too adverse to interruptions. Maybe.]

[ Helios is helping out with the fireworks and festivities. A crackling ball of light between his hands is key to this. It'll erupt into a million different like strings of light which dance and explode into beautifully colored displays.

Some of them will flit around the night sky as if they have a mind of their own, and then some might take shapes of animals and creatures that people may recognize. Helios is enjoying himself and the new year as well. Feel free to poke him while he's doing a light show, or when he's taking a break at the tables latent with food. ]

[Ginia's seen a lot of firework displays over the years. Davenport had one ever year that rivaled some of the displays in the big cities, but she's been all around the world.

This? This is easily the best one she's seen. She can't help laughing and applauding at the display in the sky.]

[ What is sleep and who needs it, Ange certainly doesn't. So you might find her out during any time of the evening or night, watching the fireworks. The difference is that Ange doesn't just watch the fireworks in any normal way - you need a good viewing spot for that. So you might find her standing or sitting on the rooftop of any of the community buildings, in some cases even dangerously close to the edge (don't worry, she's not going to jump off this time..) She might also have climbed up a big tree to see it, so you might be able to spot her up there as well.

tl;dr: Ange is high up being a daredevil fireworks watcher and being fairly casual about it. Oh, she might go and wish her friends a happy new year though. You know, after she comes down. ]

[It's definitely a lot better to watch the fireworks outside than it is to inside, which is why Atsuro's looking around for a good spot to do so. In his search, he happens to notice someone... sitting.. on a roof... ...what.]

[ Although Madoka has been handing out Christmas presents with Yui to a lot of people during Christmas, New Years suddenly feels odd without anything to do all day. But because of that Madoka is just trying to make herself busy and helpful; if you are working on anything related to the fireworks or festivities, she might come up to you and ask how she can help out.

She'll also be sure to visit all of her friends today to wish them best wishes for the new year in advance, so don't be surprised when there's a Madoka suddenly knocking on your door.

You're also free to catch her in the middle of all the running around. Being Meduka is working hard apparently. ]

[ During the fireworks, it's not hard to spot a very excited Usagi, apparently energetic even for this time of night. She's out in the open, squealing at the fireworks all over the place (and rather loudly too, but she doesn't even seem to realise how much attention she's attracting that way).

She's running all across the village to try and find the best place to see the firework from. While running around she isn't exactly looking out where she's stepping though and frequently trips only to fall on the ground flat on her face. Either she keeps lying there whining to herself or she (almost comically) stands up immediately and walks on.

Feel free to spot her during the squealing or the running, she's always excited to meet people. ]

[Wow did that girl just fall flat on her face? ...Oh, she looks familiar, too... Umm. That looked painful... Otonashi runs over to check if she's okay.]

[ New Years is clearly the time to be social-- which is why Kotomi is reading a book. Since books are her only friends. Either way, she's sitting near the fountain at the plaza, and even though it's crowded with people who want to see the fireworks she's just sitting there in the middle of all of it, completely ignoring everyone in favor of reading. Luckily there's at least some lights nearby so it's not impossible to read something at this time. If you manage to spot the book's title, no doubt it's just something overly complicated. You wouldn't understand it. (Clannad hipster.)

You might manage to grab her attention though if you try a little. Or, you know, just try to talk to her. ]

Law stares at the stars as he often does. Unreachable, unknowable, and free. The Supernova looks lost in thought. The past dances through his mind - his past, Luceti's past, pasts of others - even as celebrations ring out for the future. Even as song rises. Even as promises, resolutions, and wishes are made.

The man is like his stars. He hangs by the fringes of the party, not approaching, and seemingly untouched by cold. He occasionally looks to the warm buildings, but otherwise he's content to linger.

And perhaps, he's content to wish.

And for those rare few who have seen his wings? If he is coaxed inside and talked into removing his coat, they would discover a change. The glossy raven black tipped with bright yellow is gone. Shed the colors of his remaining youth, the man that stands here now can lay no further claim to that. He has been through the forge, tempered, and emerged a more honed blade with a more mature edge. Looking back, but moving forward.

A contemplative mood has similarly affected Lupin that evening. It settled in so thoroughly that a few Pall Malls and a glass of bourbon hadn't shaken it loose. He needed to talk, wander, and see what other people were doing for the ocassion. With so many people from so many different places, there was bound to be a few unfamiliar and unique traditions.

Stargazing seemed universal.

"Do you recognize any of the constellations around here?" He asked of the stranger. It was an icebreaker--and talking always put him at ease. "I don't. Not really. I thought I saw Cassiopoeia, but the stars are aligned a little different."

It was idle chatter, but it was so easy.

[New Year's... stuck in this place. It may not be the greatest, but it's all they've got. And, much as Gambit hates to admit it, this Luceti place has its perks.

He'll be spending most of New Year's Eve wandering from one spot to another, and definitely dropping by Seventh Heaven and Cloud Nine for food as advertised by Ginia. Towards the end of the night, though, he'll be disappearing to go and gather up ammunition for his style of fireworks. Once midnight rolls around, he'll be sending up anything from playing cards to spare plates.

Time to make things go boom. And actually not get in any trouble for it. He loves New Year's.]

[So on this lovely New Years Eve, Selphie's getting into something that she hasn't for quite some time and it's going right to her head. She's put on her nicest clothes and her cheeks are bright and rosy and she happily wanders throughout the village in a drunken stupor.

[During the day, Rainbow Dash will be doing her usual thing. Zipping through the sky, creating a flash of color everywhere she goes. To make things even more intense, she'll be warping some clouds to read "HAPPY NEW YEAR!" with her awesome skills.

But at night? She'll be heading straight for the party, hovering around, grabbing some snacks. Her usual routine. This time, she's even got some snazzy shades.

But, as always, she sorta stands out. Being a cartoon pony kinda does that.]

Yotsuba's going to be flailing around and waving her arms as quick as she can to try and get her attention. A certain pegasus needs to be told how cool she looks!]

[New Year's is a special date for him, but not for the usual reasons. This is his third time celebrating it in Luceti, but it still brings him back to the last one he'd spent on Earth. The decision between dying peacefully, and continuing to struggle... giving up, and fighting to live and protect the people he cared for.

In a way, the result of that decision is still ongoing, even here...

Minato will visit the festivities for a while in the early part of the evening. ...He might even be trying the champagne. However, as midnight approaches he returns to the house to spend time there.

He doesn't nod off until the clock strikes midnight.]

Mai tried not to draw attention to herself, but she heard the fireworks cracking from inside her apartment. It was a familiar sound, usually one reserved for the birthdays of the royal family back home.

There had to be something remotely pleasant occurring, for someone to put forth the effort to light fireworks in this miserable cold weather.

Curiosity and boredom were a potent mixture--enough to stir Mai out of her reclusive tendencies, and venture out to watch.

[Sokka tears himself away from watching the fireworks long enough to spot a familiar face over there-ish abouts. You know, funny story, he hasn't actually had a chance to go and see Mai since she showed up. Funny how a guy can get busy in a place like this...]

[Well, for those who are looking for Ace, he'll just be out on some random roof, watching the stars. Counting down the minutes to.....his birthday.

This was definitely going to be the most unique. After all, it wasn't every birthday you spent on another planet. So he brought some good rum with him for this.]
